Does anyone feel like they were prepared for this...?

Being in peri for the last 8yrs - I've come to realise how inadequately prepared for this i was. My mum died 10yrs ago so I never got to ask her more about it, but at no stage did ANYONE tell me everything from itchy ears, frozen shoulder, plantar fasciitis and the hip pain, to name but a few.

I have asked my dad about what mum went through & his response was "her period stopped, that's all she experienced". My response was "dad, I love you, but that's entirely inaccurate cause her hair literally thinned out from this super thick lush mane to being like Cynthia from Rug Rats (Angelicas doll lol)".

Why was this so gate-kept? Cause I'm not sure i believe that simply no-one knew. From older female relatives, to many *many* Drs: was it simply not worth mentioning?!

The powers of social media knew i was AuADHD before I did and is teaching me more about this phase of life than literally any physical person *in* my life.

Tell me I'm not alone here. Were you told what Perimenopause would be like or what you'd likely experience? Or left to find out the scary truth for yourself first?

Slippers that are supportive

Perhaps a niche question... for people with plantar fasciitis or arch problems, where are you getting your winter slippers or from?

My beloved moccasins and my uggboots have started caused debilitating pain in my heels after a few hours of wear. But its bloody cold in Tassie so socks aren't sufficient.

So hoping my fellow Aussies can recommend a brand that are supportive, comfortable and warm.

Cheers in advance!

Dentures causing bone spurs?

Hey folks. Hoping for some advice as I cant get to my dentist until next week.

I had my full top teeth removed & partially at the bottom. I still have my bottom front teeth. Surgery was in November, I had my first denture fitting in March, and finally picked up my set mid-May.

Because i talk on the phone full time, I haven't been able to get used to the top one yet because i just cant speak clearly enough to be understood. My words are slurred and im still trying to work out the new tongue positions etc to make myself clearer. I wear it after work & on weekends & am slowly getting better with my speech.

The bottom plate is was doing really well with. I have been wearing it every day and and reasonably used to it now. However the bottom one has created some sore spots as I was warned, but those spots have now turned into extremely hard sharp parts & earlier a bit of a bone spur came out.

I wasn't aware that was likely to happen. The moment I took the plate out, the spots on both sides of my mouth started throbbing. Theres also a newly developing one in the lower part of my gums, getting closer to the tongue.

And the pain some days, has been intense so I haven't been able to wear them at all. The dentist said to rinse with warm salt water if this happens, however I swear it makes the pain worse. Is there anything I can put on the areas to numb them enough to be manageable? (Im in Australia if that helps with any suggestions)

Im just at a bit of a loss and in a bit of pain.

Thanks in advance

Burping

Normal or no? 45f and I cant burp. Ive never been able to. Im not sure why. Is this common? Once in a blue moon a tiny one will escape on its own, but I cant force a burp out like most people can, not even after drinking fizzy drink.

What to do with this lady

When i started seeing my partner, he knew I was very into plants - (Monsteras specifically). He knew nothing about plants and wanted to surprise me by getting me one. I had moved states & had to leave my previous large collection behind (unless I wanted to pay a significant amount to have them treated with the state bio-hazard rules). He wanted to help re-start my collection. He went to a boutique plant shop & they told him the Orbifolia represents new beginnings. So he bought this little 3 leaf lady home. This was a big deal for me as my previous partner of 7yrs not once ever showed an interest or gifted me anything plant related. So this new man showing an active interest was incredible. (He still shows an active interest & is the biggest enabler when it comes to getting new ones ive seen or happened to mention lol he'll tell me no we dont need it, then come home with it later in the day lol)

Now, I had actively avoided Calatheas because its far too much drama for me. So she sat, in a corner, bright indirect light, and no-one was allowed to make eye contact with her in case it pissed her off & she decided to cease being lol. She did ok, grew a couple similar sized leaves, nothing huge. That was 18mths-ish ago.

Moved her to the kitchen about 6mths ago, much brighter indirect light, continued the same watering schedule (if she started to droop a little, it was time to water basically) and potentially a little warmer than the previous location. Well, she's exploded. Ive gone from 6-8 small leaves, to leaves the size of basketballs AND she's flowered (which i didnt realise until the flower had started to die)

She is still in spaghnum moss and is now getting too big for her pot, but im worried about putting her into shock by changing mediums. Hoping you guys can offer your best tips & suggestions to keep this gal thriving. I dont know how ive managed to keep her happy this long, and considering her sentiment to me, id love to keep her alive!

Pics to show off the plant that im still surprised ive kept alive. The last image is the when i found the flower in April. You can see growth in 2mths just from that pic

Which Phil is this pls?

Hey fellow Phil-families. Can you help me ID this character please? The leaves are huge, she's taller than me now (im 165cm lol), and I just dont know 'which' sort she is.

Google Len's keeps swaying between a Billiethiae or a Paraiso Verde... but i dont recall it being either of those. However my memory sucks, so I have no idea!

Thank you in advance!

Quotables

Are you the sort of person who uses movie/TV quotes in everyday conversations? Because sometimes i feel 97%of my brain is quotes & song lyrics at the best of times. My partner on the other hand, is the exact opposite & never does.

What is your favourite quote of all time?

Why do these soups taste different?

Made a double batch of pumpkin soup tonight, in 2 seperate pots. 1 was a ceramic coated stainless steel crockpot, 1 was a cast iron crock pot (newish cast iron user).

All ingredients split & mixed up into both crock pots during prep so they were exactly the same of everything.

Cooked at the same time, on the same sized burner, in identical conditions & for the same period of time.

They are both delicious. However the 1 from the cast iron crockpot is slightly creamier and seems to have a little more flavour.

The crock pot metal is the only difference between both batches so im now wondering if this likely due to the cast iron?

Weird but true Aussie facts

My best friend is from Arkansas. She loves the Aussie lore and general shenanigans (my favourite part about Aussie-fying her is helping her embrace our love of casual swearing - which isn't typically American for those around her and will always entertain me - especially when it slips out so very naturally when she calls me while driving lol anywho...)

I had her convinced Drop Bears were a thing for the *longest* time so now she's suspicious about any new 'facts' I throw at her. So, id love some factual Aussie lore to serve her with. (For example, like the Emu War which she also didnt entirely believe until she looked it up lol)

What are your outrageous & false-sounding Aussie facts that I can bestow on her?

Im not sure if its the Samsung Health app (s24FE) or my G6watch, but over the last 2/3-ish weeks or so, its no longer tracking my sleep accurately. Suggesting Im only sleeping for a total of 90 mins over an 8hr period multiple nights in a row. So i tried out that Sleep Cycle app and it tells a vastly different story. Much closer to what would be accurate with 7hrs or so for the same evening. There haven't been any changes in usage/apps/sleep habits etc.

Is there a way to recalibrate samsung health, or are 3rd party apps the way to go? Its something I am actually using so I'll pay if necessary. Just frustrated as it *was* working just fine
