Replacing Trees with Shrubs on Pedestrian Plaza

Replacing Trees with Shrubs on Pedestrian Plaza

Did you all see that they’re replacing the dead trees with hydrangeas on the Newark Ave pedestrian plaza?

They should’ve already planted them if they were going to replace them. Good thing they have water bags but it’s a tough growing condition and they waited till the last second to plant them.

I am annoyed that they replaced the trees with shrubs.. these are pruned up to have “trunks” but they are shrubs. They should’ve just planted the trees in the ground from the beginning. The half measure with the boxes should be for flowers or something.. but these shrubs are not going to provide much shade.

I guess shrubs are better than dead trees, but now they’re be no trees it seems.

Pre-game talk at Hype House in the stadium. Where is that?

I’m planning on going to the Sue Bird, Krieger pre-game event at the Hype House, but I can’t figure out where that is? Anyone know? The stadium website say it’s a premium seating area and has its own entrance. Any insight from anyone?

I was doing some research into my family history recently. I have a great great great grandfather who died young in JC. He was a salesman, so nothing incredibly dangerous. I’m really curious to what happened to him because no one in my family knows. My family believes his death certificate was lost in a records fire, but I can’t find proof that it’s either lost or we just haven’t found it yet. He died in 1891. I know there were many fires over the years, but I’m looking for more definitive proof that it was lost. Anyone know where to start on this? I checked the state digital database which goes back to 1878ish and i couldn’t find it using his name. The only obituary I can find is a one sentence statement in the Philadelphia Inquirer. I was considering going to the library and looking at microfiche next.. any thoughts on how to find or confirm the records are lost?

Secondary question, does anyone know of any details on the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church that was in the heights? My family were members of it but the only information I could find was referencing it being established in a school building at Central and St. Paul. They may have built a building at the corner of Summit and Pavonia..not entirely sure. Anyone know where the church ended up? It would be cool if the building still exists. I’m still doing some digging into it but any leads would be cool!
