Checking out the Galaxy Fold 8 and my OnePlus open feels ancient

I just got a used Oneplus Open as my 2nd phone (I have a spare sim) yesterday with 99% battery for $470. I've been loving it. It's a well rounded foldable phone with a good camera. I went to Bestbuy today to check out the new Galaxy Fold 8 (the wide version) and damn, now Ive just realized how much better foldable phone has come. The Fold 8 is very light and thin. It's almost impossibly thin. It's such a joy to hold and use that device. The Open is still buttery smooth but dang, in just 3 years, unlike traditional phone, foldable phones have come a long way.

I'm using an iPhone as my main phone since I'm in Apple ecosystem. The Open is good enough for me to experience android on a foldable device.

How much lower from ATH that you are ok to exit your positions?

My ATH was $925k on June 22. The brutal sell off in chip stocks pushed my portfolio down to $600k. At 600k, I was still up 100% from my initial money. Now my portfolio has recovered to $773k and I'm actively trimming my positions.

1 big reason is my margin used to be $450k. Now margin is down to $118k and I plan to reduce it to zero in August. I already shifted my money to VOO.

That said, I think my portfolio can recover a bit more and go up to around $830k-$850k. At this range, I want to fully exit my individual stocks. (Waiting for MU, and memory stocks to to back up again)

So how much from your ATH that you accept to sell and move on? At $773k, I am about 17% lower than my ATH.

South Korea to Cover Up to 100% of Semiconductor Cluster Infrastructure Costs

I know this is not MU news. But MU pretty much moves in sympathy with the Kospi (sk Hynix/ Samsung) so this news will boost memory stocks in Korea. Great news. This might put an end to the sell off for real now. You can see this is why MU & SK are up overnight right now. And Kospi is turning green. And actually US semis stocks are all up overnight

South Korea to Cover Up to 100% of Semiconductor Cluster Infrastructure Costs
• South Korea will use national fiscal funds to cover up to 100% of power, water and related infrastructure costs for designated semiconductor industry clusters under the implementing rules of the Special Semiconductor Act.
• The rules outline the governance of the Special Committee on Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness, procedures for cluster designation, support measures and the operation of a dedicated industry-competitiveness fund.
• Central and local governments will jointly finance industrial infrastructure, contributing at least 50% of project costs and up to 100% in certain cases.
• The government will also prioritize recruitment matching, specialist training and job re-skilling programs for semiconductor companies located outside the Seoul metropolitan area.

Leopold- This guy will live forever as a meme

4x leverage with margin. My god, this guy will go down in history as one of the dumbest gamblers of all time. He got lucky last year with his AI picks. But the dude blew all off with borrowed money on 4x leverage.

Also he bet big on AI with leverage. And he also shorted software stocks. He got burnt on both sides.

Last time I read about him. He sounded like a genius. He kept his long position in stocks like MU, Nbis but he also hedged with short term options. That's the perfect strategy. I never thought he would be this mess.

I also use margin but I have never got margin called. Margin is not that scary if you use in a controlled amount like 20-30% of your equity. Plus Robinhood margin is only 4.5% interest.

Situation Awareness of Leopold liquidated? How?

I don't get it. Even with the brutal pull back this past month, I think his monster gains since last year are waaay more than enough to cover all these loss. Some of his positions were like up hundreds if not thousands %. It's like up 1000% and down 40%. How come he has to buy on margin and got liquidated? Any idea?

Painful. But I'm not selling

It's been selling off for a month now and it's really painful. Walking up everyday and got depressed. But I'm not selling any of my chip stocks. Not all of my chips stocks are loss. But I'm keeping all of them. You can sell or you can hold, it's your decision. I'm just here to say that I'm still here holding all the shares.

Hoping the pain will be over soon. Good luck everyone.

The pain is (almost) over. Hold on guys!! SK Hynix is UP

SK Hynix reports double miss and stock is up. Honest, there's nothing sound more bullish than that. It shows that the chip stocks' current price is already too cheap. Even a double miss can not tank it further. We're going back to $1000+!!!

u/coopermug — 22 days ago

Bad report = stock up. What a time!

SK Hynix double miss and it's green after hour. MU blowout report = stock drop. This is ridiculous. I'm glad chip stocks are green now though. This might be the signal of the bounce!!

Net profit margin up 118%

Maybe this is why the stock is recovering right now

u/coopermug — 22 days ago

SK Hynix earning at 5pm today

I have no doubt SK will beat earning today and lift the whole semis up. MU will bounce back tomorrow.

Last time Samsung also beat but dropped due to high expectation. But it's different now as SK stock and memory have been down a lot. We have room for surprise here. Let's hope!

OpenAI might break this whole AI trade

The more I read about openAI, the more I believe openAI will be the one that brings down the whole AI narrative. Oracle in fact stated the risk of nonpayment from major customers (everyone knows it's OpenAI) and got credit downgraded also due to openAI's risk.

For me, I stopped my openAI's subscription because I prefer Gemini. Once OpenAI goes public and everyone can access its financial, that'd be not very nice. If you invest in AI stocks, you will want openAI to succeed. Otherwise it will destroy the whole AI/ semis market and maybe only huge hyperscalers like Google, Meta, Amazon barely survived.

Convince me how openAI could justify its $1 trillion valuation? I'm heavily invested in AI/semis stocks and honestly I plan to exit once we have a date for openAI's ipo.

Confused why semis stocks up today?

I have been too scared to open my Hood app since yesterday evening. I was expecting a total blood bath today. Trump resuming Iran war threat, Fed minute not looking good. But to my surprise, my account (which mostly have semis/ AI stocks) was actually up today. I know there was some good news for NVDA regarding China. And some good news for AVGO as well. But is it all why semis stocks were up today?

I'm so confused since it looks to me that the Fed will very likely hike rate once this year. Iran war seems not to conclude anytime soon. Is there any shift in money rotating? Does money to back in semis? Or should I trim more of my positions while I still can?

Trump saves us

This pretty much shows that he wont ever allow US companies to buy memory chips from China

u/coopermug — 2 months ago

Extremely concerned about possible rate hikes this year

Hey guys, I'm growing extremely concerned that the Feds certainly will hike rate this year. Back in 2022, I didn't understand why stock markets were so bad. It was mostly because the Fed hiked rate too much in a year. Now Kevin Warsh's hawkish stance on inflation makes me feel so uneasy. If they hike rate 2 or 3 times this year, that would certainly destroy this bull market.

What do you think? Are you fully invested? Or keep cash ? I think I'll aggressively trim my accounts in July to capture the July 4 rally and before the Feds meeting around July 28-29.

Korean markets ripping again. Memory stocks up!

Looks like we rally tomorrow. Usually Korean market follows the US. But their stocks are up now.

u/coopermug — 2 months ago

Maybe today sell off is good heading to earning

Stock at all time high going into earning is always risky. So today we got a 13% sell off so it takes some pressure off the stock. Tomorrow I think we will pop 5-10%. All the headlines are pointing to a super high memory pricing. Apple rising price, Valve's Steam machine is stupidly expensive, SK Hynix slowing down HBM expansion (supply constraints continue), NVDA use less HBM in Rubin (Because of high cost), etc.

Let's go boys!! 100 shares and 1 leap call heading into battle tomorrow !

This should be good for memory pricing

I know the news is SKHynix. But this is directly affecting memory pricing and it should be good bullish news for other memory makers like MU & Samsung. These companies have little incentive to aggressively expand their production capacity as it will ease the supply constraints and that's not good news.

However, this will affect companies like NVDA, AMD, Dell, etc since their cost remain high.

HOLD HOLD HOLD

Relax guys. If this dips, it will go back in a blink of an eye. Apple rising their price is a super bullish signal. Hold.
