How do I get soft beef in stew without a pressure cooker?

I tried cooking stew, but the beef in them always turn out tough and takes effort to chew. ☹️ I tried boiling them longer, simmering for hours, using fatty cuts of meat but nothing works. My workaround is to take the meat out once boiled/ cook to add to the stew later, but this takes the juices/ flavour of beef out from the stew.
I don't have this problem when cooking with chicken thigh

Why do you believe in God?

For cradle Catholics, converts, and reverts: what led you to believe God exists and to have faith?

I was reflecting on the Glorious Mysteries and Jesus' words to Thomas after appearing to him and showing him His wounds: "You believe because you have seen me; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

As a teenager, I attended Mass and never really doubted God's existence. A few years later, though, I started wondering: What if it was all an elaborate hoax? My faith slowly faded, and I became more of a nominal Catholic shaped by Catholic values.

When I eventually returned to the Church, I had a profound experience during Mass—a deep conviction that God is always good. Around the same time, I began journaling questions to God in prayer, and many of them seemed to be answered through life experiences, people or memories. That was what brought me back to faith and and gave me a much deeper conviction that God truly exists.

I'm curious: what was the turning point for you? Was there a specific moment or was it a gradual journey? Or have you always believed?

How do you explain to a protestant why they can't receive Holy Communion?

I've been thinking about this and was wondering if there are any Church documents that explain it well.

TLDR: How do we explain that they can't receive Holy Communion until they are received in the the Catholic church with a formal public profession of faith in Nicene creed and that the Catholic church holds the fullness of truth in her teachings?

To paraphrase something I saw a Protestant post on the subreddit, "Why can't I receive Holy Communion if I am baptised and believe in God? What gives the Catholic church the right to safekeep the Holy Communion and say who can or cannot receive it?"

Their reasoning might be, "I believe in the same Triune God, I'm baptized, and I believe in Jesus. Why can't I receive too? Why is the Eucharist reserved for Catholics?"
To them, while their communion is symbolic, anyone (even the unbaptised) can cross receive across any denomination and nondenominational churches.

As a Catholic, I'm convinced that the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Christ, and that we need the right disposition and to know its Christ we are receiving in the Eucharist. Even receiving a valid but illicit Eucharist elsewhere would feel wrong to me. Holy Communion is about more than just believing in Christ—it also expresses full communion with the Church.

I don't know how to explain it to them. I am also interested especially if there are anyChurch documents, Catechism passages, Vatican II documents, encyclicals, or other magisterial teachings that explain this well.

Help me pick a chinese name - considering changing mine

My parents picked 欣怡 for me - it means happy. I think 欣 means appreciation, like in 欣赏。 Problem is I don't like how its made up of 斤 and 欠。

I have considered changing it (I don't think my parents would mind), but don't know what would be good. Someone suggested 星。 I briefly considered 恩, but the romanised version would be Ernie.
I like 凯 too, but that feels more masculine.

Something poetic would be good. I'm Catholic, so something related to the God/ Mary/ the faith would be good too.

I know friends who went to a fengshui master but that's not in line with my faith so I can't do that.

What's a Reasonable Equity Offer for Angel Investors?

Hey everyone,
I'm trying to learn more about angel investors and early-stage startup funding.

Most of the information I find online focuses on who the investors are, venture capital firms, and how to pitch to them. What I'm having trouble finding is guidance on what a reasonable equity or profit-sharing arrangement looks like for a startup seeking angel investment.

For example, how do founders typically decide how much equity to offer at different stages of the business?
Are there any common benchmarks or rules of thumb that investors and founders use when negotiating?

I'm asking because I'd like to build realistic business plans and financial projections, and I'd like to understand what investors would generally expect.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

For the non drivers who grocery shop at JB, how do you all bring the stuff back to SG?

I sometimes staycay at JB, and figured we can grocery shop to save cost. Right now we're doing grab to check point >> bus to SG >> grab home. But if we're bringing more stuff, then its quite hard lug them physically across immigration, compared to a car check.

But the prices for grab a bit crazy at 100plus, and I might as well shop in SG.

Wondering if JB taxis can come into Singapore.

How do you deal with exploitative people?

I noticed that people like to say "Don't be so calculative", but from my experience (and those of friends), its usually from people wanting to take advantage but never giving.

Like asking people to return on days off/ rest days; OTing without pay; spouses spending all the joint account money on themselves; or even emotional support between friends or spouses; mooching off others; and when pointed out (usually after the nth time), these people will tell the people giving / pointing out that they are calculative; but these people almost never give at all?

I mean its not about calculative, but shouldn't it be reciprocal? Like if you keep taking from a bank account or well, it'll run out; or you need to fasten your own oxygen mask before attending to others.

What can you do about neighbours who rev their engines loudly for 2-3mins early every morning, and in the evening?

Like dude, we all know you have a nice car, but maybe have some class and don't need to overcompensate and show off to the whole neighbourhood and rev that engine.

Will reporting them to TP etc help?

How do I paragraph my posts or comments?

I sometimes need to paragraph or use a next line for long texts or lists. When I use the 'Enter' or return button on my iphone, its like a roulette between:

  1. Enter key working successfully and posts/ comments are spaced nicely
  2. My paragraphing is removed and it becomes one long line
  3. I use 2 enter keys to be safe; but they are spaced super far apart 😅😭

Why?

[Free Friday] Tailsy Gabriel existed because God loves me

Not sure if its allowed, if not, mods please feel free to delete.

Tailsy Gabriel was God's gift to me.

Tailsy came to me as a scrawny stray near my birthday while I was opening mail at the letter box, and followed me home. When I moved out from my family home, when I was alone without anyone, during my health scares and bad times, he was always there and would sit on me and purr to comfort me. He was loyal and steadfast, and seemed to know when I was down to sit on my chest or next to me. I had him for 15+ years.

Last October, he began stumbling when he walked. The vet said he had cancer, a heart murmur, chronic kidney disease, and dehydrated, and likely had anywhere from two days to two weeks left. She encouraged euthanasia.

Seeing him frightened and weak at the clinic had me worried sick and so protective of him. I prayed the rosary there, and it felt as though an air of healing settled over the clinic, but especially upon him.

After that, I prayed the rosary with him every night. About 10–15 minutes before the Lourdes rosary livestream began, he would come looking for me from our room. Somehow, he always seemed to know it was rosary time.

I named him Gabriel after our rosaries prayed, and after the Archangel Gabriel, and somehow the name suited him.

I was devastated and prayed constantly, offering masses asking God for mercy and more time with him, knowing God is the ultimate author and master of life. Knowing there might not be an afterlife for him and that I might never see him again tore me apart.

God gave us 3 and a half more months, 6 times more than the vet's prognosis.

During that time, I cared for him intensely: subcutaneous fluids, pain medication, medicine, food, snuggles, sleeping on the floor with him, whatever I could do to keep him comfortable and safe. In caring for him, God gave me the gift of closure.

He died in my arms while we slept on 14 February this year.

I know his life, his coming to me and choosing me, our years together, and even the timing and way of his death were all gifts from God.

After months of fearing he would suffer immensely, or die alone at a clinic, or in a horrid painful death, he passed peacefully in his sleep, curled up against me exactly where he always felt safest. To me, that too was a sign of God's love and mercy, for him, for me, and for us.

They were signs of God's love and care for me through a little stray cat named Tailsy Gabriel.

Corpus Christi Benediction at Church of Sts Peter and Paul Singapore

Taken at anticipatory mass. The altars and masses always fill me with a sense of peace (especially when no heckling takes place). May God bless you and yours.

Why does SSPX not want to return to union with Rome?

I am wondering, if there's FSSP and ICKSP who celebrates the TLM, why do SSPX not just return to communion with Rome, because they can now continue to celebrate mass only in latin, following the Tridentine formula?

Are there other stipulations they are disagreeing to?

No hate here please. Just seeking to understand.
Please reply with charity/ keep in mind Vatican's efforts at reconciliation/patience/ charity with them. I just want to understand.

Edit: Thank you to everyone for the time to comment, for the information and teaching. I like to clarify that I am asking about full communion, not an irregular situation like now, and not only about the 4 new bishops they want to have - but if it is a reason for the obstruction to full communion then that's its a point too.

Any fabric or candle wholesale in JB?

Hello everyone. I tried google but it doesn't really give me results. I am looking for lace or chiffon, and people doing alterations. I go to Warorot market in chiangmai where there is a market where many shops sell fabric and people providing alteration services are there. I don't mind factories with no signboards either. Any one got lobang?

I'm looking for candle supplies like beeswax and jars too.
