I realized that I don’t have to physically put my baby to sleep anymore and it’s a game changer

I have been having the toughest battle with my ten month old lately. She has been fighting her sleep so incredibly hard. When I’d rock her she’d kick at me and roll around, when I’d try to put her to sleep on the boob she’d push her self off of me and flip over. It would take 30 mins of me singing and rocking or whatever combo I came up with that night.

Anyway, I realized this week that I can just lay in bed with her with the lights off and let her do what she wants and eventually she’ll fall asleep lol. She’ll throw herself around and be a hot mess goblin for a few mins, popping on and off the boob but eventually she just falls asleep!

Idk why I thought I had to do all of this extra stuff to get her down 😂 This is amazing! It relieves so much stress now that I don’t have to battle her and I can just accompany her until she falls asleep on her own. I didn’t sleep train her and there’s no crying involved but I can just be there and scroll on my phone or read and she still learned how to fall asleep by herself. Is this how everyone else is doing it?

My 7 month old got her first tooth, she bites me while falling asleep.

My 7 month old baby absolutely will not fall asleep without nursing. I have tried so many things and she freaks out for my boob every time. I am away from my husband for a few months so I don’t have anyone else to help get her to sleep. Her first tooth just came in and when I try nursing her to sleep she bites my nipple and pulls on it and it is sooo painful!! I always take my boob away but then she is wide awake and the nap progress is ruined. Any advice?

Is this a normal phase for my 7 month old?

My 7 month old has been nursing to sleep since she was about 4 months old. I have been the only person who’s able to put her to sleep because of it. In the last couple of weeks this has changed. When I put her to sleep she will cry and wiggle and get mad unless she is given my boob. She often will fall asleep nursing but she wakes up extremely uncomfortable almost immediately. She will whine and thrash around and wake herself up. I’m thinking maybe it’s gas from the constant milk flow? I’m honestly unsure.

It’s made it so that she won’t go to sleep with me because she is always looking to nurse, then getting uncomfortable. Like a constant cycle. I don’t always have someone else around to put her to sleep and am unsure what to do. Does this sound like something that anyone else went through? She also refuses a pacifier.

Is BLW safe for a six month old?

Hi! My baby is six month old and has started solids, she loves food. I’m absolutely terrified of choking though and have been giving her purées only due to my fear. Is 6 months too early to start BLW? It just seems so young but she wants to steal my food and eat whatever I’m eating so I would love to give her more opportunity. How can I begin? I am completely new to the concept. Thank you for any advice.

My mother in law gave my six month old her empty breast

So basically, my mother in law watched my six month old baby for maybe an hour and a half last week while I got a couple of things done around the house. My six month old is breastfed, she will take milk out of sippy cup but she comfort nurses especially when going to sleep.

My mil was going to watch her again for a bit today, when I drop her off she starts telling me how my baby was crying for a boob so badly that she tried offering hers. My baby tried to get milk out, cried when she couldn’t and her breast still hurts from it. I honestly don’t know what to say. I was speechless and I left to gather my thoughts. I feel very uncomfortable and weirded out. She is Puerto Rican and I know that breastfeeding is treated a bit differently in their culture. She breastfed my husband until he was eight. But surely you wouldn’t give a baby an empty boob there ???

Im even more upset that she said she told my husband. I think that he kept it from me so that I wouldn’t get upset and freak out. Thankfully I am leaving for a couple of months with my baby to spend some time with my family that lives across the country so I will be getting some space. This isn’t the first time that she has crossed my boundaries. Am I overreacting? The more that I think about it the more livid I get. I need to hear other peoples thoughts on the situation to help me process this. We also only live ten minutes away and she could have called.

Edit- thank you for everyone’s responses and validation. It felt like such a weird thing that I honestly felt more comfortable asking strangers for advice than someone I know. I wanted to add that I did talk with my husband after I posted this and he did not know what happened. He is just as upset as I am. I’m not sure if she lied about telling him or if he just didn’t understand what she actually meant when she told him because it’s just too crazy.

I need multiple root canals

So basically I have terrible genetics to begin with and am cavity prone, I haven’t been to the dentist in 6 years and I just had a baby which was really hard on my teeth. All of that is catching up to me now. Half of my back molar got eaten away by a cavity.

I do have Medicaid so I will be getting that tooth pulled since my insurance might cover it. I would have to pay THOUSANDS for a root canal out of pocket since Medicaid doesn’t cover it.

My mother in law is a dental assistant, she looked at my x rays and told me that I will need multiple root canals. I obviously can’t pull that may teeth so idk I’m fucked I guess?? There’s no way that I can afford thousands and thousands for root canals so I don’t even know what to do. Can I just ignore it for now? Is there any less expensive way of dealing with this?

My husband is the only one working since we don’t have childcare and we are already struggling financially.

I actually take good care of my teeth despite how this makes it seem.

Edit- thank you for all of the advice. I’m strictly looking for advice on the dental situation, not whether I need to be working or not.

I need to start working a night job but my baby will not fall asleep without nursing and refuses a bottle

Hi, I am kind of at a loss right now and the stress of my situation is keeping me up at night. I thought that I was doing the best thing for my baby by breastfeeding her and it has been extremely enjoyable for me. She is six months old, she feeds to sleep every night and wakes up multiple times to nurse. When I was pregnant, my mother in promised to take her on weekends so that I could work. However my baby has been too difficult for her when it comes to feeding as she only wants to nurse. She will use a sippy cup but when it comes to naps and bedtime she only wants to feed to sleep and so my mother in law no longer wants to watch her.

I tried getting a night job and having my husband take her at night but she would cry for hours once it got dark out until I could home and nurse her until she would finally fall asleep.

We have no childcare and are not surviving off of my husband’s income alone even though he works hard. Not only that but since I have to do nights by myself it leaves me getting absolutely no sleep.

I’m not sure what to do, I’m afraid that breastfeeding has put me in this position even though I loved it so much. I did not realize that it would make it so impossible for me to work. It breaks my heart to try and give it up but I’m wondering if it’s possible to night wean maybe at least? Is anyone else in this position with breastfeeding? She is not even in her own crib, we have to cosleep because she wants to comfort nurse in her sleep.

If I didn’t have to work it would be fine but I’m not sure how to work and do this, especially a night job.

Do you cover yourself while breastfeeding in public?

Personally, I don’t. I just whip my boob out and feed her when I need to. I have fed her while walking around and shopping. Covers are hard because she gets overheated, wiggles a lot and never stays latched under the cover. It doesn’t make me uncomfortable since I know that I’m just feeding my baby.

I didn’t know that people found it so offensive until my husband’s aunt had made a comment about how she always covered herself because it makes people uncomfortable and it is offensive. Now I’m seeing constant posts popping up on social media of people saying how breastfeeding in public is disrespectful to everyone around you. I really didn’t know that it was so controversial!! I thought maybe a few people would get offended, but not so many.

So now out of curiosity, I’m wondering how everyone else is breastfeeding in public and how they feel about it being offensive to do so uncovered.

We’re stuck in the house all week and I’m going crazy!

My husband is working 12 hour shifts all week so I’ll be alone with both my girls a lot. I have a 6 month old and a 5 year old. Normally I get us all out of the house so that I don’t go crazy but it’s raining all week.

Any ideas of rainy day activities that I can do with the girls to keep them busy?

Did anyone read Dark Places by Gillian Flynn?

I am reading it now and just can’t get into it. Should I push through and just keep reading, is it worth it in your opinion?

I absolutely loved Gone Girl and Sharp objects. I keep hearing people say that this was their favorite of her books so I had high expectations.

Showering while the baby cries

My husband has gone back to working 12 hours a day and I have been adjusting to being alone with my 6 month old all day. She has been especially attached to me the last couple of days and cries 90% of the time when I set her down. (I think she’s teething or having a grow spurt maybe ?)

Today I needed a shower badly. She peed on me and I was covered in sweat and breastmilk so I gave myself a pep talk, made sure that was fed and changed and set her down in a safe place to cry it out while I showered. I know that this is necessary sometimes but I’m wondering what everyone else means when they say their baby “cries it out”. Fussing I can handle, but my baby SCREAMS. She seriously just screams bloody murder at the top of her lungs. It’s so loud and intense. Her face turns red and she starts coughing, and that’s only from a five minute shower. If she didn’t stop and start smiling right when I picked her up then I would think that she’s in serious pain.

This might sounds dumb but Is this how my baby really is supposed to cry when being set down? It’s my first. I have felt so guilty and been crying ever since. Everyone says that it’s okay and I know that I NEEDED to shower but it felt so wrong to me. Does everyone’s baby cry like this???

Therapist said I need to get my baby to nap by herself

Hello, my baby is five and a half months old and I have been dealing with some postpartum depression. I started seeing a therapist and she told that the first thing that I need to do is work on babies sleep so that I can get a bit of freedom back. Currently we are cosleeping and she also takes every nap cuddled on me on the rocking chair. Every time that I set her down after she’s asleep she wakes up within five minutes. She has only ever slept on me or her dad no matter what I’ve tried. I pretty much gave up trying and accepted it around three months so I’m not sure where to start. She eventually wants me to stop the cosleeping but she said to start with naps for now.

Should I try getting her to fall asleep another way completely? I find it hard to transition her after she’s been rocking in my arms. Has anyone successfully gotten their clingy (for lack of a better word) baby to take naps on their own? I want to follow my therapists advice since my mental health has been in shambles but I’m just having a really hard time. Any advice is appreciated.

My husband works today and I’m feeling lonely. How has your Mother’s Day been?

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!! You all are amazing and I’m wondering how everyone’s Mother’s Day is going? My husband is working today and my family ands friends live in a different state so I’m feeling kind of bummed out and lonely. I decided to post this as a place where any moms can rant or rave about their Mother’s Day and I’m here to listen and chat :). I’m desperate for conversation lol

My husband was amazing and straightened up the house while I slept last night. We celebrated early and he took me to dinner so I’m not sure why I’m feeling so down. I think it’s regular postpartum sadness rather than Mother’s Day sadness. I tried getting ready and feeling nice, no clothes fit, my baby started crying and I took everything off, put on an oversized t shirt and cried. Tried again- my baby started crying and only wanted to be held. The regular 🥲 now I’m glued to the rocking chair holding her. She’s extremely fussy today.

I’m not sure if Cosleeping is right for us anymore, I’m not sure how to proceed

My ebf baby is 5 months old and has been sleeping with me in my bed since she was a newborn. She has absolutely refused to nap or sleep without me since the beginning. She’s getting a little better recently. She napped by herself once on the couch and once in her stroller.

Anyway, I’m finding cosleeping to become tricky. Now that she’s older she will wake from any movement. If I move to get comfortable, switch sides or god forbid if I have to get up to pee or drink water 😭 usually it results in me having to come out on the rocking chair and rock her back to sleep. She used to cuddle up to me but now she seems to like her space a little more. Neither of us are getting good sleep.

The only problem is that she only lasts about 20 mins of sleeping on her own before she wakes up crying for me. She usually wants to nurse back to sleep. I’m not sure what I can do and I don’t want to do any CIO method.

Can anyone relate to this situation?

Hi, my baby is five months old, I went back to work this week and I’m starting to have pretty severe depression. It is causing problems in my relationship. My husband just can’t understand it, he keeps telling me that I’m looking at the glass half empty and being pessimistic. I don’t know how to make him understand that it’s more than that. He also says that I’m a different person at night. He asked me to explain to him exactly what’s wrong but I have such a hard time putting it into words. I know that PPD is a bit different for everyone. I love my baby so much and feel very connected with her. Did anyone struggling with PPD ever say anything to their husbands that kind of made it click in their brains more?

He knows that ppd is common but when I show any symptoms he is not understanding at all. He is more frustrated than anything
