I built a privacy-focused SMS app with smart categories, reminders and scheduled messages — looking for testers

# Hi everyone!

I’m building **Messages SMS**, a modern Android messaging app designed to make everyday text messages easier to organize and use.

Instead of showing every SMS in one crowded inbox, the app automatically organizes messages into useful categories such as:

* Personal * Transactions * OTPs * Offers * Spam

It also includes:

* Smart reminders for bills, flights, hotel bookings and deliveries * Scheduled text messages * One-tap OTP copying * Warnings for suspicious links * Dual-SIM support * Custom categories and sorting rules * Light, dark and AMOLED themes * A modern Material Design 3 interface

Privacy is important to me, so message categorization and detection happen directly on your phone—your messages are not uploaded to the cloud.

The app is currently in closed testing, and I’m looking for Android users willing to try it and share honest feedback.

How to join

  1. [Join the tester Google Group](https://groups.google.com/g/messages-sms)
  2. [Join the closed test on the web](https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.thegreatdanton.messages)
  3. [Install Messages SMS from Google Play](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.thegreatdanton.messages)

Please use the **same Google account** for the Google Group and Google Play. Access may take a few minutes after joining.

Since this is an SMS app, Android will ask you to make it your default messaging app while testing.

I’d especially appreciate feedback about:

* Whether messages are placed in the correct categories * Whether bill and event reminders are detected correctly * Scheduled-message reliability * Anything confusing, slow or broken * Features you would like to see added

Thank you for helping me improve the app!

What do you wish your default SMS app could do? I'm building a new one and want to know

I am developing an SMS/MMS application designed to automatically categorize messages or allow users to do so manually.

This application will offer context-sensitive actions based on SMS content, such as one-click blocking, direct calling, map integration, reminder creation, and the ability to copy entire messages or specific parts using simple swipe gestures.

Additional features include a modern material expressive design, dynamic wallpaper theme support, spam detection, sender blocking, delayed SMS sending, and scheduled SMS functionality

.

I would appreciate your feedback on this SMS application concept. What features do you prioritize in an SMS application? I previously used Microsoft's SMS Organizer, but it no longer performs as expected.

[Promotion] MoneySplit: a 100% on-device expense & budget tracker (Special ₹299 Lifetime discount for Reddit!) (Region based discounts are also available)

Hey guys,

I wanted to share an Android app I’ve been working on for the past few months called MoneySplit.

I originally built this for myself because I was getting tired of how expense tracking apps work nowadays. Every app I tried either wanted me to pay a monthly subscription just to log my expenses, or forced me to link my actual bank account through some third-party login service that I didn't fully trust.

I wanted something simple, private, and offline that just parses my bank SMS and PDF statements automatically without sending my data anywhere.

Here is what I built into it:

- Auto SMS & PDF Parsing: Parses bank SMS (HDFC, SBI, Axis, ICICI, CRED, UPI) and bank PDF statements directly on your phone.

- 100% On-Device & Offline: No cloud servers, no bank logins, no data leaving your phone.

- Budgeting & Sankey Charts: Visual money flow charts showing where your paycheck goes each month so you can set category spend limits.

- No Monthly Subscriptions: It's a one-time lifetime license.

- Subscription Tracking: Auto-detects recurring monthly charges (like Netflix, Spotify, YouTube Premium, or iCloud) so you don't get surprised by hidden renewals.

- Bill Reminders: Keeps track of upcoming utility bills and credit card payment due dates so you never pay late fees**.**

- Savings Goals: Lets you set targets (for an emergency fund, vacation, or new tech) and tracks your progress as you save.

- CSV Import & Export: Easily import your past expenses from CSV files or export all your data anytime to Excel / Google Sheets.

- Loans & Debt Tracker: Tracks money you’ve lent to friends or borrowed from family so you always know who owes what.

Since I hate monthly subscriptions, I priced the lifetime license at ₹299 in India (and $24.99 globally). There’s also a 14-day free trial so you can test out all the features first without paying anything.

How long should we let sand and cement mix base that is 5 inch thick on concrete floor dry with 2*2 ft tiles before applying Epoxy grout

We are getting 2*2 ft tiles on the top floor that is open to the sun. The person we asked to do the work on contract did 5 inch of sand and cement mix before laying tiles on top. Next is applying epoxy grout after drying.

I would like to know how long we need to let it dry before applying Epoxy grout.

I am from India where the current temperatures are high 30s F. There are chances of rain in the next 2 days.

Any advice on this is appreciated.

Yes this is 75% vibecoded, especially the UI part and the algorithms to derive insights out of spending.
Being a backend engineer, I wanted to save time and money and hence vibecoding. It took me 5 months for first presentable version.

Since I used AI heavily, I had to optimise my prompoting, use Gemini research mode to identify user pain points today, enfore material 3 guidelines. Now the work is more streamlined and I get results I want from the prompt.

App has gotten about 300 installs in 20 days with 160+ monthly active users. And I am getting encouraging feedback with 15 paid users already. Plans for one time payments and no subscriptions.
