Lots of large portions and really great homemade pie included. Right across from the community college and the general campground. Nice to find a decent meal at night that wasn’t overpriced for what we got and goes to a good cause (repairing their roof).
I feel like this happened last time I rode RAGBRAI but the businesses in Onawa grossly overpriced their food specifically for RAGBRAI. Dans pizza wanted $8 for the saddest slice I have ever seen when normally $2 more would get you a whole pizza. Frannies had no vegetarian lunch options whatsoever and charged $13 for a salad without proteins that consisted of iceberg lettuce and two pieces of carrot. I heard the country club offered a very expensive breakfast as well for the somewhat captive PBV riders. Not a great showing and feels like they are trying to maximize profit while shrinking their portion and quality rather than just doing what they normally do, but in more volume. I don’t want to villainize these small businesses but it feels not great being a visitor in a small town that otherwise rolled out the red carpet for us.
Basically the description, weighed with my accurate scale and my bag for the ride is coming in at 48lbs with no extras except a fan. Will I be ok with the general ride baggage or am I going to run into issues when weighing?
Just noticed google maps now routes "traffic" down into the valley that the 376 bridge crosses. Seems like they are up to date that the bridge doesnt exist but somehow have routed into the ravine.
I messed up my cleat position on my new shoes and none of my local places can look at it before the ride. Is there anybody you folks know on the ride that can do some minor bike fitting (just cleat adjustment)?

In the last few days they have closed down so many roads I couldn’t get out of my neighborhood or back into it once I left. Anybody else noticed how much road work is being done all at once? I felt like a rat in a maze trying to find the right combination of side streets to get back home.

The amount of stuff like this I found when I opened the walls in my 1900 house is astounding! Built two temp walls and cut out the whole wall as it was only held up by a couple studs and the top plate was severely compromised. Replaced with two LVLs so should hold up a house several times the size :) included some pics of the top plate I removed!
Should note I had to reroute and remove two electrical circuits, hot and cold water, two abandoned gas lines and two active radiant heat boiler lines for my radiators to make this possible.
Anybody know what’s going on? We are talking it from Cleveland to Pittsburgh but it looks like our train hasn’t even left the station!
Weirdly not a lot to see or services along the trail, but also one of the best maintained/paved trails I have ever ridden. Been trying to camp but not a lot of opportunities at the right mileage (60-70 a day). Passed some really premium campsites 10 miles into the day a couple times :(

Had to run a few liquidtight lines through an inactive chimney to get them into the basement from upstairs, any suggestions how to seal around them in a non-permanent way?
It’s not often you find vitrified bricks older than your house! These things are massive and heavy as anything! Also found a couple Layton firebricks in the pile used for steel mills back then due to their ultra-high heat resistance.
Basically what the title says, I have tried almost every location and get the same result. Are we trapped in Pittsburgh?! (Trying to drive to Cincinnati OH) Is there some sort of western PA pact to not let drivers take cars out of the state to Ohio? I have tried the airports as well to no avail.
