How do people find a home suddenly?

This feels like a stupid question but how do people find a place to live quickly? Is it just a lot of virtual tours and facetiming? Are there apartment realtors or agents to help? Do people stay in a hotel while they look?

I’ve never moved before but I might have a sudden move coming up and I don’t have the money to take an extra trip to look at apartments. I would prefer if the apartment was ready for me when I got there. However I am fearful of moving too quick and getting a bad apartment. Thank you!

custom or stock resole?

Hey everyone! I recently decided to give up on my Iron Rangers as the last is too narrow in the waist for my flatter feet. I want to get the 719s but dislike the ASHM last, so my solution is to go STC. My question is should I custom make them or buy the tyre wedge and have them resoled?

Custom - $445
• Pros - I get to design my own 719 completely
• Cons - Wait time, limited sole options (maybe Kalahari sole since Frog Grip isn’t available on STC size 13?)

719 Tyre Wedge w/ resole - $260 + resole??
• Pros - Quick shipping, more sole options depending on cobbler
• Cons - Stock 719 (no customization), cobbler might be very expensive, might be damaging a fresh pair with a resole

Wider alternative to Red Wing Iron Ranger

Hey everyone I posted this picture recently asking about a sizing issue (TLDR: the leather on EE is too wide but my feet are still spilling over the sides). I’m wondering if you guys have any recommendations for an Iron Ranger style boot with a wider platform maybe? I’ve looked at the Jim Green 719 but I don’t like the pointier toe on them and the customs don’t offer the Frog Grip sole in my size. Thank you!!

chelsea boot sizing/recommendations

Context: I’ve been wanting blundstones forever, I tried on the originals for the first time today and the fit was horrendous. It was too loose in the heel and instep and slightly snug on my big toe.

Do you guys know any Chelsea boots that fit snug in the instep and ankle but wide in the toes?

Iron Ranger Sizing Question

Hey everyone! I’ve had this Iron Rangers for a few months and I’m just kind of worried about the fit. I measured in at 11.5E with a low arch on the Brannock and their 3D scanner. I could’ve fit in the 11EE but my toes were a little too close to the front for my liking so I went with 11.5EE. I tried 11.5D and 12D and my toes were squished. The two problems I’m having are:

  1. my midfoot is coming over the sides pretty bad, especially on the inside. Which I know I have low arches but it’s very rare for my arches to fall in the inside of a boot.

  2. the heel and midfoot upper is pretty loose as you can see I have them laced pretty snugly. I’m sure I could fix this with an insole but the toes fit perfectly so it’s frustrating.

I’m thinking maybe my feet aren’t shaped for Red Wing Heritage, and I might have to go with Jim Green, Brakehouse, or Urban Wolf Club but those might come with sizing issues as well.

Perfect Hiking Boot?

In anticipation of the Lace-to-toe boots coming later this year, I’m interested to hear what you guys’ perfect custom Jim Green hiking boot would be? Especially for wetter, rougher terrain. I.e. what midsole combinations, outsole, single vs double lasted, etc?

RAT Early Review and Questions

Hey everyone! I’ve worn these for 40-50 hours so far (I know not much, but enough to notice some things). I’m going to drop some personal pros and cons below and some questions as well.

Pros
• I love the width, I have rectangle shaped feet and these are great (Wide through but not super wide in the toes). They are Wide enough in the heel and mid foot without looking too anatomical.
• The leather insole/midsole and the lug sole make these super comfortable compared to my old AR8s.
• I love the the two tone look of the suede and nubuck
• The suede is super soft and the toes feel broken in out of the box.

Cons
• The stock insole is very underwhelming, and when I tried putting in an aftermarket insole (Superfeet Green Wide) it was more snug than I’d like in the midfoot and toe area. This leads to my next problem…
• HEEL SLIP, with the stock insole my heel slips even when I wear my Carhartt Steel Toe socks. I’ve tried lace locking methods and they help a little. I’m not sure if I should double sock and pray it breaks in or if I’m just screwed
• (Not a big con just being picky) The brown midsole. I really wish these came in all black as shown by Rose Anvil. I know it’s an easy fix but I’m just lazy and cheap lol.

Questions/Advice

  1. (See Pic #3) Any tips for folding the tongue? I’m struggling with this, I seem to have a decent fold but I dislike how it creates a weird triangle fold at the bottom.
  2. How important is the plastic in the heel? I’m tempted to sell these RATs and just custom order some AR8s with no heel counter to make it more comfortable.
  3. What replacement insoles do you guys recommend for guys with a wide midfoot/heel.

Boot Recommendations

Hey guys I’m looking for my next hiking boot and I need some help. I’ve decided I want two pair: a pair of daily, low top hikers for dry to lightly wet hikes (these will be a pair of Merrell Moab lows); a pair of more rugged extremely waterproof boots for fall/winter hikes.

My current favorite: Merrell Moab 3 Mid Waterproof

Pros: extremely comfortable for long periods of time, come in wide width, have decent toe box room, feel stable yet not too stiff, not TOO expensive

Cons: Waterproofing sucks after a few wears, foot slides forward on descent no matter how tight I tie them (could just be my foot shape)

Thanks!

sizing help?

So I started working a certain cowboy boot store (some might be able to guess by the boots but I’m not allowed to say). I’ve been struggling to figure out my size.

I’m an 11.5E on the Brannock. I went with 12D it’s a little narrow but the length seems fine. The problem is my big toe hits the plastic toe stiffener on the front/side. I’m stuck with this pair and they’re only slightly uncomfortable. I tried on more sizes for my next pair, 12EE, 12.5D, 13D; and although the width is fine on all of them, my big toe always hits the hard toe structure and it’s very uncomfortable.

Any advice or opinions are appreciated! (Square toes fit fine but they don’t look good on me nor are they my style. Also for context I wear 11.5 EE in Red Wing and 12.5 EE in New Balance.)

Worth it?

Hey everyone I just purchased these vintage Irish Setter sport boots for $63 (including tax and shipping) on Ebay. Do yall think it’s a good price or did I overpay?

Also, I want to get the resoled and dyed black. Is it worth it to go through Red Wing or would it be cheaper/better to find a cobbler? Thanks!

Does anyone have these?

Hey everyone I’m interested in the Whites Mule Packer and I’m wondering if anyone has experience with them or has a picture of them. Thanks!

rise/waist advice

Hello everyone! I’m having a crisis as of late in relation to how my pants fit, the rise, waist, etc.

My whole life I’ve worn my pants at the slimmest part of my body which is right above my hips as seen in pic #2. This is a comfortable and practically biologically perfect place to wear my pants as there is a “shelf” for the pants to sit on. I also believe it is proportionally better looking here.

Recently I’ve started to become aware of “natural waist”, especially since I’ve recently purchased a few pairs of pants/jeans that have a longer rise. I hate how there is so much extra fabric at the crotch if I wear them at my normal spot, but if I pull them up to my natural waist (see pic 2, about 2” above my belly button) they are very uncomfortable when sitting and they always slip down, possibly because I’m chubby but not because the pants aren’t big enough.

Any advice would be great! Should I just give up on higher rise pants?

Waist/Rise Dilemma

It also makes my torso look tiny.

(P.S. I wish I could post photos to show how the pants look but it doesn’t let me)

Mid(shave)life crisis

Hey everyone! I’ve been shaving for about 10 years. I’ve used Gillette most of my life, and I’ve tried using Safety Razors for about 2 years on/off. I’ve also tried using Phillips OneBlade and a BabyLiss foil shaver but neither gets a close enough shave on my neck.

My problem:
Gillette shaves so smooth, comfortable, and quick but is very expensive and gives me razor bumps while also leaving some stubble on my neck.
Ive tried two DE: Henson and Bevel, the Bevel was a terrible shave but the Henson is tolerable. I like the angle on the Henson, the lightness of the handle, and the affordability of DE. However it seems impossible to get a close shave on the neck, and I always get extremely cut up and nicked in that area.

My set up:
I’ve tried so many different gels, creams, and foams. I currently use the Proraso Red with a brush. I use the Gillette labs series. I use the Green Astra blades with my Henson. I use Nivea sensitive aftershave but it honestly doesn’t do anything for me.

Any advice is appreciated, I feel hopeless in my shaving journey.

Hey everyone! I noticed a couple of days ago that some bumps had randomly appeared on the shaft of my penis. They are painless and not itchy. I haven’t had sex with anyone but my girlfriend of 7 months and she hasn’t either, so I doubt it’s an STI but I’ve been freaking out so I figured I’d ask here.

u/destr0_star — 4 months ago

Hey yall! This might be a stupid question but is it normal for your feet to protrude on the sides of boots? I have wide feet but the EE is always too loose in the instep, so I size up to a 12D. It fits fine but I notice my feet really come out on the sides near the arch/heel. Thanks!
