Back in the Saddle Again

After going 4-5 times/week for over a year, I fell off in June due to various reasons. Now that those reasons have resolved I'm looking forward to jumping back in but also dreading how much weaker and less flexible I've probably become. I also need to reacclimate to the heat.

It's hard/discouraging because I remember so recently being able to kick ass at these workouts and now it feels a little like starting from scratch but oh well. I'm back.

Light Up Sneakers

Bought my daughter the cutest little light up princess sneakers that she loves. Maybe an hour later I start seeing posts on my IG feed about how you shouldn’t buy your kids light up shoes in case there’s a school shooting (she’s in daycare) and now I’m terrified for her to wear them but she refuses to wear anything else ☹️

I guess I’m just ranting about how everything is such a fucking bummer. I just want to give my kid a normal happy childhood and I have this shit to worry about.

ETA: I am still letting her wear them. I’m trying not to let the fear mongering get to me

My house doesn't look like a 3.5 year old lives here and it makes me sad.

Ok maybe I need help being deinfluenced from buying more toys and stuff but I've been feeling weird about my house lately. It doesn't look like a 3.5 year old lives here...you walk in and there's not a single toy in the main living area, just a bookshelf with grown up books. It's mostly because my mom lives with us and she's extremely tidy and organized. All of my daughter's stuff is in her room (which isn't even that big) or her bike & some balls in the backyard. Looking around I feel kind of sad that you can't really tell a little kid lives here. We have her photos and her art on the fridge but that's about it. While I'm eternally grateful for the cleanliness, I think I want my home to look a little lived in too? I think this might really just drill down to sharing my home with my mom. Sorry this is a weird rant.

EDIT: I’m really grateful for all of the kind suggestions! I’ve already begun hunting for a coffee table that doubles as storage and when I brought it up to my mom I got the “it’s your house you do what you want” so yeah we’re gonna bring some of my kid’s stuff out to the living room. Thanks everyone

I love these but fear they might be too short (retail brand: curvlife)

Found these cat eye French nails and fell in love. I also love a good short nail because I type all day at work. However, I feel like they might be a little too short? I sized based on width which is comfortable but something feels off. Maybe it’s nothing and is totally fine. Just asking the audience!

It's only me and my only child

I have been blessed with a rock solid village during my journey as a mom. My husband is amazing and my mom lives with us and has provided endless support.

This week, they are both gone travelling and I was terrified. My daughter is 3.5, so lately tantrums have been rough and sleep has been getting disrupted as her brain is making leaps and bounds. I was all but certain this week would be a shit show and I get overwhelmed so easily.

Well here we are at the end and I can't believe how beautiful this week was. We have bonded like never before and tell each other we're a "team". She has been helping me around the house, not a single tantrum, promptly falling asleep at 7:15 and sleeping through the night. We're laughing, we're playing, we're reading stories together and chatting nonstop. 3 has been a hard age but it's also incredible.

I just want to call out that I could not have had this with two kids. I wouldn't be able to handle two alone. And because she's at such a young age I feel like I'm starting to get a taste of the bond between an only child and their mom. I'm still the adult, but she's my best friend :)

This one on one time has been incredible and I just wanted to share my joy.

Three year old going through some crazy leap right now, would love to hear other's experiences

For the past two weeks or so, my 3y 7m old has been going through it. What "it" is, I'm not totally sure but I'd love to hear if any of you have experience with this happening in a similar time span:

  1. Dropping the nap - she really seems over it and has been for weeks. Her daycare wants her to keep doing it but she'd rather play or read the picture books.

  2. Disrupted sleep/nightmares - She's woken up in the middle of the night 4-5 times in the past two weeks. Twice it was from nightmares, one about a monster eating her and one about having bugs on her face. She just seems to have a crazy busy brain.

  3. Suddenly drawing pictures that make sense - She drew a picture of me which actually resembled a stick figure, and drew a pumpkin with the right colors. She's never really done anything other than scribble before.

  4. Massive interest spike in imaginative play with toys/barbies

  5. Finally - the absolute worst, earth shattering tantrums. Happens usually once/day and results in full blown, high pitched screaming. They only last a couple of minutes but man I hate them. The defiance has gotten worse, for sure.

So can any of you share similar experiences and insight? I'm wondering if this is like a "leap" that will pass (mostly because I'm over these insane tantrums and disrupted sleep)? I heard of something called a Limbic Leap but also read that it's a bunch of hooey. Curious to hear from others!

Intrusive thoughts about a panic baby

I heard the term “panic baby” a few months ago and it’s been floating in my brain ever since. I’m turning 37 next month and even though I have been staunchly one and done for a huge laundry list of reasons, I think I’m having some sort of mortality crisis and my brain is trying to trick me into having another one before it’s too late.

It’s mostly manifested into thoughts like “omg I’m getting really old” and “will my kid resent me for not giving them a sibling” and “it’s time to shit or get off the pot” so to speak

Not sure if anyone else can relate to this but I think it just helps me to put it out there. My only is 3.5 and I know without a doubt that I can’t handle two. I just need my brain to turn this stupid base instinct OFF lol

First time using Celebritips and I have thoughts

Retail Brand: Celebritips, Dainty Cherry

I’ve been going through all of the brands I can find between TJ Maxx and Walmart that fall under $15 per kit to see what I like. This week it’s Celebritips!

First off, they went so HARD on their packaging. It’s so nice I’m wondering if these would be cheaper if they came in a regular old cardboard box. The plastic shells with the clasp and layers? So cute but extra. Reminds me of the ‘90s Polly pocket shells.

The nails themselves feel sturdy but are a little too rounded for my liking. The sizing skews small as I think there were only one set of thumb-sized nails I can use. I get more options with Glamnetic and Curvlife.

These nails are also a little too translucent for me, as I can see some of the glue through it. I used the Curvlife semisolid. The nail is starting to lift slightly on my thumb so it’s turning a brighter white (this is due to having to open baby locks on cabinets) and I don’t love that.

All in all these aren’t my top choice so far but they are still really cute and comfortable. I love the style and length. Will follow up with the other Celebritips set I got that is shorter to see if it adheres better.

Peeing as a form of protest

My daughter recently moved up from the 2’s room at school to the 3’s (she’s a December baby so 3.5) and they require your kiddo to be potty trained.

It’s been a bumpy road but my daughter has been accident free at home (and even experiencing multiple dry nights) for the past couple of months, but she has had at least 2-3 accidents per week since switching rooms 3 weeks ago.

The teachers have told me it’s consistently at nap time. She doesn’t want to settle down and seemingly pees to get attention and to get out of having to lay down. I think she’s trying to drop the nap but the daycare said they can’t give her a separate activity because of room ratios.

My husband and I are trying to effectively discipline her through consequences (no TV, for example) and rewarding good days (more bedtime stories and new books). And talk to her about it every day. She’s my first and only and I’m feeling at a loss. I can tell the teachers are fed up with her behavior and I’m so stressed about it.

Any advice about properly correcting this behavior would be so appreciated. I really can’t afford for her to be kicked out.

Tried this random Walmart brand and love it

Retail Brand: Salon Perfect “Viral Nail Edit”

I grabbed this set on a whim for $10 at Walmart and I’m surprised by the quality and fit! I use the curvlife semi solid so I can’t speak to the quality of the glue but the nails themselves are worth checking out.

Maybe Salon Perfect is more well known but this is new to me so I’ll add it to my list!

I need to save her please help

My husband and I have always kind of followed the “man manages grill, woman manages oven” roles so I know nothing about grills. I love my husband but he’s completely neglected our Blackstone so I want to take matters into my own hands and bring her back to life.

Please tell me how, I don’t care if it’s not the “perfect” way to keep the seasoning or whatever, this griddle clearly needs help.

Thank you!!

Went all in on Curvlife nails & semi solid glue

Retail Brand: Curvlife

So the ads got the best of me and I decided to try the Curvlife semi solid glue. This is my second set using it. My first set held FIRM for 10 days and then they began to lift and then popped right off without issue.

The glue came with a pen that has remover fluid and the nozzle is shaped with a wedge to help take it off. This was needed for 3 of my nails that didn’t pop off on their own. It worked well and I experienced zero damage to the nails.

I have read on here that there may be some questionable ingredients in the glue so take that into advisement. However, this is far and away the best nail glue I’ve ever used.

I like many of the nail designs but plan to continue to use other brands. I will continue to use the same glue. I hope this review helps anyone looking for a high performing glue.

Major setback with potty training and I feel hopeless

We have been at this for over a year. Started off trying the oh crap method when she was 2 and it was an epic fail. She goes to daycare full time and they weren’t able to fully enforce it (through no fault of their own, juggling 10 toddlers in different phases of potty training at once sounds like a special kind of hell to me).

If you asked me two weeks ago how she was doing I’d say she was 95% there. Maybe 1 accident per week and fully independent when it came to pooping. I was stoked. She even had several dry overnights and we were planning to try out nighttime training.

This week has been a disaster. Multiple accidents per day and seemingly no remorse about it. Fighting us when we take her. She even almost pooped once but I caught her immediately. Generally speaking she will still go when we take her, but it just feels a lot harder.

Is this some sort of leap or something? Stubbornness? I’m so discouraged. She is moving up to the 3’s class at the end of the month and they need to be potty trained. Her teacher thinks this might be a reaction to that transition.

I would be so eternally grateful for advice and words of encouragement.

Quick ETA: we considered maybe it was a UTI but she had one once last year and was very communicative about her discomfort. She isn’t experiencing any discomfort but if this continues into next week we will call her doctor to rule out anything physiological
