2020 C-HR - Stereo Upgrades?
Basically title. I upgraded the stereo in my wife’s 2015 Honda CR-V recently, and now I’m jealous. I don’t wanna go haywire and take over my trunk with subs and amps, but I would like some additional control over EQ and sound staging and such, and eventually add a subwoofer, while retaining factory controls and such. I also find the stock head unit sluggish.
And, yes, a sub is something I’ve wanted for a long time, but that’s lesser priority than the head unit. Shame there isn’t a JL Stealthbox for the C-HR.
However, the fact that even Crutchfield doesn’t have any recommended head units and “nothing fits” isn’t very reassuring. And the only things I’ve found have been dubious Ali Express listings, which don’t instill confidence. Most posts seem to add on to the stock stereo.
Any suggestions?
Wegovy isn't all unicorns and rainbows: a short story
I started Wegovy about 4 months ago. I had rapid success on the 1.5mg dose, and stayed on it for 3 months since it was working so well. My cholesterol went down, reduced pain and frequency from autoimmune conditions, and, overall, I had very few side effects. Finally, in month 3, I noticed the effects started to wane a bit, so we took it up to 4mg.
And that's when the trouble started.
I happen to be a walking collection of random GI disorders. I have GERD/reflux. In 2023, I had my gallbladder removed. I've had esophageal spasms a handful of times. Probably a precordial catch too.
The 4mg was my downfall.
My reflux started to get progressively worse on 4mg, to the point where I was taking my normal medication plus additional supplemental medication each day (which I'm prescribed for "break through reflux"). I also had to start taking dicyclomine daily - a smooth muscle (i.e. esophagus, intestines, colon, etc.) relaxer - to help with esophageal spasms. If you've never had them, I hope you never do - they feel like a heart attack, but in your esophagus.
About a week ago, I started developing really bad reflux, breaking through even the break through meds. I also started to get excessive gas, belching, and diarrhea, to the point where, one night, I couldn't sleep. The next morning, I skipped urgent care and went to the ER to get checked out (because I knew urgent care would just send me to the ER for scans anyway).
Several hours later, I was being admitted to the hospital for a partial bowel obstruction. Things were caught where my scar tissue from my gallbladder surgery was. Between Wegovy (that slows down things), a smooth muscle relaxer (that relaxes it all), and the occasional Celebrex for autoimmune disorders, my GI tract had gotten so clogged up that I had to fast for about 48 hours with IV fluids only if I had any hope of avoiding a surgical procedure.
Thankfully, X-Rays showed that things had cleared up after a couple days, and I was released after increasing my diet, and without having to get an NG tube or have surgery. But:
- The hospital told me to stop dicyclomine, so now I have no medication for spasms or stomach cramps.
- My dietician won't allow me get back on GLP-1 therapy until I have a signed note from my GI doc.
- My GI doc won't offer anything over their portal (they don't do anything on it - dunno why they even have it). So I have to set an appointment, but they are backlogged for over a month - and that's with an NP, not my normal doctor.
- I've been off the 4mg for about a week, and I can tell my cravings are coming back and my "oh shit, I'm full" signal is starting to disappear.
I'm hoping I can get back on 1.5mg, because I didn't seem to have any problems at that dosage. Even if that dosage isn't as strong as it used to be and I wasn't losing weight with that dosage, I also wasn't gaining weight, my labs were looking better, and I was feeling better.
I know this is atypical, but just be careful and pay attention to your GI tract, especially if you've already got some issues going on!
Circling helicopter near Broad and Gaskins - anyone know what’s happening?
It sounds like the noise we’d get if a data center went in in our back yards.
Nausea, stomach pain, esophageal spasms, heartburn
I was on 1.5 for 3 months, and have been on 4mg for almost 3 weeks.
So far, 4mg has been difficult. I’ve had an increase in heartburn, and, a week or so ago, I started getting esophageal spasms (which I’ve had before). They’re likely related. My GI doc has always sent me on with dicyclomine, so I’ve been taking that.
The last couple days, I’ve had nausea (which I haven’t had since week 1), and started to get sharp pains on my right upper abdomen. I know gallbladder problems can be a thing, but my gallbladder was removed 3 years ago.
I know everyone has their own experience, but anyone have anything similar?
Practicing with an iPad
I have so many books (PDFs), lessons/master classes, guitar pro files, links (online articles, Instagram videos, etc.), example audio and backing tracks, and even old OLGA .txt files stored in my iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or in Notion.
I've collected so much, but I have a hard time working through them because I don't like being on a computer while I practice. I find it distracting. Paper allows me to focus so much more. But being able to slow down music to play along and learn, as well as working through full courses with video is so valuable.
However, I do like using my iPad because it's more limited, I can turn off notifications, and I've got a paper-like screen protector, so it even feels the part. However, having Files, Preview, Amazing Slow-Downer, a metronome app, and maybe another app or two all open at the same time is really cluttered and difficult to manage. It also requires set-up time any time I want to practice, because it does get used for work as well.
I want something that I can just open, pop in, and see everything all in one place, but I'm aware this doesn't really exist.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to best manage all those different options or how to best study on an iPad?
Sunrun - “Communication Error” - Suggestions?
I bought a house last year (east coast U.S.) with a Sunrun 9.75kW system. I know they aren’t the best but they came with the house.
Our bills show the system definitely works, but the app is showing a communication error, with no data having been updated for a couple months.
Anyway, I reached out to them and they said it would be $655 for a diagnostic. That’s absolutely mental.
I’m fairly handy and know my way around small electronics, but 120V and solar are borderline foreign to me. That said, is there anything I can look at myself? If not, it isn’t worth $655 to me for some data in an app.
Day 1 on 4mg
I've been on 1.5mg for about 3 months (I think I have like... 3 or 4 left). I decided to alternate for a few days until the 1.5mg is gone.
At the end of the first month, I decided to stay on 1.5mg, as it was very effective immediately and I lost almost 10 lbs.
The second month was still effective but didn't lose as much weight. I could've gone up in dosage then, but I decided against it, as I'm very sensitive to most medications.
The third month, I could watch my caloric intake go up, on average, about 100cals per week in my tracking app. Food noise was starting to come back. I still lost about a pound overall, but not much to talk about.
Being sensitive to medications, I've been worried about going up in dosage. I took my first 4mg today. My tummy feels a little cramped. I've also had bad heartburn today, having to reach for my breakthrough medication. I've definitely felt a bit run down too, but I'm out of town and sleeping in a weird bed. Otherwise, the food noise is mostly quieted again, to the point I keep forgetting to make my afternoon coffee. I gotta go do that.
Just thought I'd share since so many people are concerned about the side effects - really not much to talk about here! It's all manageable.
Losing Effectiveness - Why?
2 months ago, I started taking 1.5mg, and it was a wild change (yep, I was one of those quick responders). I lost 15 lbs. in those first 2, and didn’t feel the need to bump my dose.
Since just before month 3, occasionally I will have a good day where I feel like it’s cutting my cravings and food noise. However, most days, nada. I wanna go eat a sandwich right now. And my weight is going up, despite working out and counting calories.
Yes, I’m going to 4mg in a couple weeks, but I wish I could today.
My question is why does this happen? If I make it up to 25mg, would it eventually wane as well? If I get up to 25mg and it stops working, and I get off the pill, am I just gonna be overwhelmed with food noise again?
Door to door salesman?!?
My wife and I moved last year. We had service with Verizon (FiOS) for the 10 years that we were there. Since we moved, I’ve had no less than five distinct individuals show up from Verizon, each one saying it is part of the terms and conditions that they come check up on us door-to-door from time to time and offer us promotions.
Tonight, the same guy showed up twice. I told him one time to leave and not come back, and he came back again.
This didn’t happen a single time at our last house.
What do I need to do to get these people to stop showing up at our home?
I have a set of bar stools that were included when we bought our home. One of them is missing a foot, which I’m looking to replace.
From what I gather, it’s just a screw with a rubber cap glued onto the end. This was the best picture I could do - sorry if it kinda sucks!
First, the screw is likely metric, as it was made in China (and likely just a cheap Amazon buy). From what I gather, it’s an M6 with a 15mm length. The threads, however, are throwing me and I can’t find anything matching. It looks like, for every 5mm, there are 4 threads. Is that mean this is M6-0.66x15?
Second, and maybe not the place for it, but anyone have any recommendations for rubber caps for screws? They don’t have to be perfect matches - you can’t buy just one screw and one rubber cap
anyway.
Thanks!
I recently acquired a used Strandberg Fusion NX (Alex Machacek model) that I've been absolutely loving. I've also started working on a change of career to move away from web development and into doing guitar repairs. I've started taking classes on fretwork from a local builder. So I'm probably at that "I know enough to get into trouble, but I wanna try it myself" phase.
Anyway, the Fusion had a couple issues when I picked it up.
First was the nut. It was sticking proud out of the bass side about 1mm. This was an easy fix: I removed the nut (which came out clean), cleaned up the nut slot, and repositioned it with a couple dots of glue. The strings feel nice and balanced on the fretboard now. Done.
Second, the zero fret, and this is where I still have issues. There are some divots in the fret from age, which is a bit surprising for Jescar 51100, but it is what it is. Before moving the nut to the proper position, it pinged any time you'd bend a string, but it would stay in tune. After moving the nut, it no longer pings (yay!), but it still seems to catch in the divots, especially when using the tremolo or playing some larger bends. This results in the strings (specifically the unwound ones) going out of pitch (and yes, the strings are well stretched). I've polished the zero fret, but that seems to have made no difference.
My initial thought is that I need to pull the zero fret and replace it with a new one. Does this seem like the right course of action? Would you recommend something else?
If so, is there a way that the first fret be leveled without leveling all of the other frets? All the other frets are in excellent condition with zero issues.
Thank you in advance!
Maybe my algorithm is throwing too many shorts and reels of adorable little ramen houses and traditional Japanese restaurants in Japan bringing out some of the best looking Katsu Curry and Soba Noodles and Okinomiyaki, but I really want to try some of these foods.
Not Hibachi either. We all know that’s just glorified stir-fry (and, yes, it is delicious, but not what I’m looking for). Sushi’s pretty prolific too, but not other traditional Japanese dishes.
Any suggestions? There doesn’t seem to be much around RVA. I do go by Charlottesville often - open to suggestions there too.
