Vacuum chamber suggestions?

Going to be casting in silicone, most recommend vacuuming on the directions. I won’t need anything huge. I’ve heard/seen people buy just the lid attachments? Are these better/worse? Is there a brand I should avoid? Thanks for reading.

Every week I have to explain to someone that I cannot return a coupon to them in cash

Today I got to have the conversation that I’m sure every single retail worker loves to have, if you are making a return with an item you used a coupon when purchasing, I cannot return the money the coupon took off. I do not understand how people do not get this, or deliberately choose to argue with me to see if I will give them free money. This lady bought a flat iron from me last week, the original price was $45. She used a $15 adjustment coupon from a previous issue with an order placed on the website, because she was sent an expired item. I made the return in store for the item, so she already got BOTH the full refund and the $15 coupon from customer support. Don’t ask me how because I don’t care. Anyway, I ask if she wants her $30 back in cash for the flat iron (an item she picked out last week after returning the expired hair care) or if she wants it on a credit card. She gives me a look, and I already know this is about to be an issue for her. She asks “what about my $15 coupon?” I politely say, I unfortunately don’t have any way to return the coupon to your account, and I can’t return it in cash, so you will need to contact customer support again, which, is presumably how she received said adjustment coupon in the first place. She loses it, says she is still owed the $15. I say I’m sorry, I have absolutely no way to return the coupon to you, and I cannot give you more money than you initially spent in my store. She continues to argue, and tries to explain that she *did* pay full price for the item with the coupon, because the coupon was still her money. I pull her recipt from the purchase, showing her the total, and again, explaining the computer will not allow me to return more money than she physically paid me. We go back and forth for five minutes. I pull her cash out and give it to her. The kicker? She stays in my store and calls customer service, is on hold with them for 20 minutes, and guess what? They returned the coupon to her account with no issues. She picks out a new flat iron, uses the $15 adjustment coupon (a second time) and leaves without apologizing.

What else besides monster clay and silicone can I pour into an alginate mold?

I learned today that alginate lifecast molds are only going to last less than an hour before they start to shrink and deteriorate, which throws my plans off since I stupidly planned to lifecast everything I needed for projects this year and next. Some alginate molds I will be pouring silicone directly into to get my final, others I will be putting monsterclay in. I don’t have a ton of monster clay and I don’t feel like buying more (expensive) and I can’t buy all my silicone all at once (also expensive). My master molds will be ultracal so I cannot use that to make a positive. What else (preferably on the cheaper end) can I immediately pour into my alginate lifecast so I have a positive to then make an ultracal mold for in the future? Or would it be easier to make my alginate casts the day I need them? Thanks for reading!

Paste wax for ultracal mold

I’ve been watching videos learning a bit before doing my first ultracal two part mold. The guy I’m learning from uses a “paste wax” in this video but I cannot find the exact one he used in stock, so would this one from Reynolds be the same thing? He uses this wax along the edge and key of the mold.

Here’s the video, he uses it at 19:03

https://youtu.be/c6WBotvMNvo?is=L0VNDD54EZFHAs76

Here is what I found available that looks similar

https://www.reynoldsam.com/product/sonite-wax

Are these the same or do I need a paste wax more specifically for how he is using it?

What’s with the influx of people coming and asking for vivid colors without bleaching ??

Every day, at LEAST once, often times more, I have people with dark hair come in and tell me they want a specific vivid color (usually pink or purple, the hardest ones to achieve obviously) without bleaching. I just straight up always tell them it’s not possible. I show them the high lift colors but I explain that they are technically still “bleaching,” they just deposit color as well. This confuses people. They look at me like I don’t know what I’m talking about. They say they saw “no bleach” colors online. They just want a magical process or product to get to bubblegum pink without lightening or chemically processing their hair. I truly don’t understand how they think that is supposed to work. I have also suggested wigs and they really don’t like that idea either lmao

Someone smelled exactly like Inexusable Evil but said it wasn’t. What was it?

A customer came in at my work and she smelled VERY strong, I could smell her fragrance 6 feet away and it lingered. I decided to ask her because I was so sure she was wearing inexcusable evil - I used a sample of it last year on a halloween costume for four weekends so I’m super familiar with the smell - she said it was “some arabian perfume on the tik tok shop” and couldn’t remember exactly what it was called. I was honestly surprised. She asked if it smelled good and I said yes, very spicy! I was lying. I couldn’t breathe. My work is very small and I think I kept smelling it for the next 30 minutes. Any idea what she had on? It was chemically, spicy, burn your nose type of smell. I actually would love to find it because I like inexcusable evil on my halloween costume but if there’s a cheaper alternative that smells almost worse I would be interested in using that instead.

Not really a mold making question but I’m sure someone here knows. Expanding foam into silicone

Hello. I tried googling but I can’t find anything. Can I pour soft expanding polyurethane foam into a silicone prop? The silicone will be like a skin/mask and the foam will just be the inside as space filler because the foam is cheaper than making a solid silicone prop. It says these are typically used to fill latex props but I wasn’t sure about silicone. It will be poured into a dry/cured prop. I don’t need it to bond to the silicone. Just want to make sure these materials won’t react or ruin eachother. If anyone knows anything better to use I’m also open to suggestions. I will be making large silicone props but I cannot afford to make solid throughout body parts. The filling needs to be something cheaper.

Opinions on building an outdoor aerial/lyra hoop setup

Hello, this is more of a question for those of you who are experiencing in rigging, or engineering outdoor aerial setups etc. My business is considering building some sort of permanent outdoor lyra setup/stage. I would possibly want this set up to be able to bear 300+lbs (for doubles) and it would have to be made from lumber or metal/steel. Is an outdoor rig even possible with that kind of demand? This would be used probably 20-30 times a year if that means anything. I’m a pole instructor but a lyra student. I do know the basic rigging but I have never built my own set up. Any input at all is welcome, including “don’t try to build your own, that is stupid.” Thanks for reading!

What release agent for releasing silicone props from hyrdrocal molds?

Complete beginner here, reading and watching lots of videos so I think I have the general idea of the process, but often times videos skip what release agents they’re using (maybe they’re not using anything?). I will be starting with small projects for this, I am doing monster clay sculpt - hyrdocal mold - silicone final. Should any release agent should go in my hydrocal negative with ecoflex 00-45 and 00-50? Or will it just pull out?

Hello, first time on this sub, I am typically over at autisminwomen. I am diagnosed autistic, suspected adhd. I have always had a hard time completing tasks, jobs, etc. Even the ones I enjoy or hobbies. I am looking to start my own business, but I am just having a hard time completing anything, or even starting, even though I really want to. I thought that this was a normal thing everyone experienced, that they had to “make” themselves do pretty much anything and everything, and there’s no happiness when its done, just relief. Anyway, those of you who are currently taking medication or have tried in the past, what worked for you and what didn’t? Did it change your life for the better?
