Have you ever felt that habit tracker streaks don't match your actual goals?

I've tried a lot of habit-tracking apps over the years, and one thing always bothered me: the way many of them handle streaks for weekly and monthly habits. For example, if my goal is to exercise 3 times per week or read 10 times per month, I'd expect my progress to be measured against those goals. Instead, many apps seem to focus on consecutive daily completions, even when the habit itself isn't meant to be daily.

Another frustration was what happened when I raised a goal. In several apps, increasing a target would reset my streak, which felt discouraging. Improving a habit shouldn't feel like starting over.

These frustrations eventually led me to build my own minimalist habit tracker around the idea that streaks should reflect whether a goal was actually met, not just whether a task was completed every day.

I'm curious if anyone else has experienced these issues. How do you think weekly and monthly habits should be tracked?

30 days after launch, the results of my app

A month ago, I released my app, HabitSet, on Google Play.

I built it because I was frustrated with habit trackers that counted weekly and monthly streaks based on completed days instead of actual goals met. I also didn't like losing streaks when increasing my goals—it felt more like punishment than motivation. So I decided to build an app that solved those problems.

A few things I learned:

  1. Getting people to visit your store page is much harder than I expected.
  2. A good conversion rate doesn't matter if nobody sees the app.
  3. Talking to users is more valuable than obsessing over analytics.
  4. The first paying customer feels much more excited than the amount of money itself.
  5. Building is only half the job—distribution is the other half.

The app is still small, but seeing real people use something I built from scratch has been incredibly motivating.

For those who have launched apps before, what was your biggest lesson during the first few months?

[Android] [$24.99 -> $1.99 Pro lifetime] HabitSet, a minimalist habit tracker focused on simplicity instead of complex productivity systems.

I built HabitSet after trying dozens of habit apps and running into the same frustrations over and over. One thing that never made sense to me was how most apps handle weekly and monthly habits. If your goal is 3 times per week or 10 times per month, the streak is often based on consecutive days completed rather than whether you actually met your weekly or monthly target. The streak counters didn't reflect the real goal. Another issue was what happened when I increased a goal. Many apps would reset my streak, which felt more like a punishment for improving than a reward for progress. So I decided to build an app that solves those problems. That was my perspective on what a habit tracker should be. I'm curious whether other habit-tracking users have felt the same frustrations.

[App] [Promo] HabitSet, a minimalist habit tracker focused on simplicity instead of complex productivity systems. 99% Free for lifetime Premium features

Download: HabitSet

A few things that stood out:

• It supports weekly and monthly habits properly

Instead of forcing everything into daily streaks, I can track things like 3x/week or 8 days/month, and the streak is based on that—not arbitrary daily check-ins.

• Changing goals doesn’t mess up your history

I increased a habit from 1 → 3 per day, and my previous streaks didn’t break. That’s something I didn’t even realize was broken in other apps until now.

• No weird streak resets

Apparently, it handles time properly (DST and all that), so you don’t lose progress randomly.

• Reminders actually make sense

They stop once you complete the habit and come back if you undo it. Small thing, but really useful.

• Widgets update instantly

I can mark habits done from the home screen and see it update right away.

• It’s fully offline

No account, no syncing, no data collection. Everything stays on the phone, which I personally prefer.

All reviews will be really appreciated.
Thanks

There’s also a more compact view if you track a lot of habits, and some basic stats by category, which are actually useful without being overwhelming.

I built an app to track my habits after trying so many of them, the problem was how these apps manage my weekly and monthly streaks based on completed days rather than weeks or months met. There was something wrong in streaks counters. And it wasn't acceptable to me.The other issue was resetting my streaks, if I raise up my goals which I saw it as punishment rather than motivation.

Then I decided to solve these problems in my app

This was my prospective for a habit tracker app. Which I built a solution for it even if no one sees this prespective.

(Me) is the first customer.
