Looking for jazz radio interviews, education, and live performances

Heh. So after desiring one for a long time, I finally bought a very old table radio (1945-ish). And it came with a bluetooth AM transmitter so I could stream phone audio to it. I already have a lot of music I can put on it. But, I was thinking I'd really like to hear interviews, education, entertainment about jazz, and live performances. I was thinking about the old Marian McPartland Piano Jazz series. And The Wynton Marsalis Making The Music series (which I remember recording onto 60 minute cassettes because it always played while I was out at work -- still have those) and the occasional DJ who would do 30 minute interviews with famous musicians who came to town. Is there anymore of that these days, either new or older but gets replayed? Would love to play these on the "new" old radio.

I'd like to introduce you all to my latest obsession

It started with the Teagarden CD. I love Teagarden. And I love Ory. I heard the broadcasts on Teagarden and realized I was listening to real authentic New Orleans music by their creators and it was the most amazing thing to hear. I collected the rest of what you see here as soon as I could. I found the website jazzbighotstep.com (Jazz Rhythm?) that had some MP3's of others. But I want more!!!! I gotta find more!!!

And if anyone is reading this and wants to hear authentic New Orleans jazz from the 00's to 20's recorded (for radio) with 1950's upgrades, you need to seek these out. Of particular interest is May 23 1953, a recording of Just a Closer Walk with Thee. The announcer requested it be played in the original first line/second line style, and you hear the trumpeter, who originally played it in New Orleans funerals 40 years earlier, play it so quietly that the audience was louder than the instrument -- but he was able to keep such a wonderful tone at a low volume it is amazing to hear!

My 3DO is on its way. What should I do?

Found a 3DO (in box) on a japanese site. It is gonna be a few weeks before it gets here. But I am totally new to the 3DO. My other consoles I've either got Everdrives for them - if cartridge, or ODE's if they have drives. But I try to get an ODE that preserves the drive so I can play from disks if/when I find ones I'd like. So I need some advice about what I'd like to get and/or do with it.

It is a japanese version of the FZ-1 with controller. Still in box and seller says it powers on and drive works but that's all. For the price I was okay with that much info. Here's my questions:

  1. What is the recommended ODE for this system that allows me to still use the CD-ROM drive?

  2. Do I send out for recapping/upgrades regardless? What are some recommended upgrades if I do? I cannot solder. So would need to go out for it all.

  3. I've looked and people don't seem to have issues with running the 100v version on American systems, but longer term will this cause any problems and I should either have it adjusted or get a step down?

  4. Looks like I can get a composite to HDMI video output or an S-Video to HDMI for it. What's recommendation? It will go into a 40 inch widescreen TV (no, I shall neither get a CRT nor change aspect ratio to 4:3. I am against both. Don't ask. Memories). This system has both the mode a/mode b switch on the back.

  5. Anything else I need to know or get for this while I wait for it to arrive?

Thanks!

Time for my next game

Been out of town for two weeks, but before that, I was going back and forth about what to play next. When I learned about this game, completely by a throw away line ..... I knew it was right. Been wanting to play this for over a week. Finally ..... the adventure can begin.

Which version should I play? GOG or Genesis

Okay. Conflicting advice on Google searches. So going to ask. I already own this game on GOG. Which is different from the Genesis version. I see a lot of people saying one is better than the other and I was just wondering if anyone has personal experience playing both themselves and can tell me which version they like more and why. Doesn't look to be too difficult to get a Genesis version with manual. So I can make that happen if it is worthwhile. Thanks.

Navimow long term support?

I appreciate everyone's help on trying to decide which mower to get and I've decided the Navimow x450 is most suitable. At least one with possibly a second smaller one added later.

However I have a question about longevity support. I know this is tech and this will be made obsolete in 2027. But how long, with regular maintenance and blade changes and assuming no electric or mechanical failures can I expect this mower to last? My existing tractor is 21 years before I have decided to pack it in. Im pretty sure expecting an app and the navigation service it uses to last for an equal 21 years is not reasonable. But what is reasonable? Five years support and a working app may be too short. But a decade, is that reasonable? This is kind of new to me. I don't mind the cost if I don't have to repay it again in a short amount of time.

Robotic mower for my obstacle-laiden yard, yes? no?

Lived in Central Ohio for 21 years. Had the same mower for 21 years, outlasting the place that sold and maintained my riding mower by 9 of them. And the last couple years, the mower has had about 2-3 breakdowns a year at about $200 per breakdown. I don't have either the time, skills, or tools to work on this outside of basic oil change, so I've always had to call someone. And as the only person in my area, it seems, without a truck, I also need them to tow the mower away for working on. And yesterday, it broke again, for the second time this year, and I think I'm about to give up.

So I looked at my options. I don't mind, mowing, but I won't say I derive pleasure from it. And my work keeps me from mowing after October, so I always have the highest lawn in the winter. Nothing to do about that.

I looked at a replacement mower. Zero turn. Looking at gas or even battery powered, with the advantage of battery being low maintenance, but high upfront cost. Then I looked into a robot mower, which on the surface, appears to have low maintenance, and can cut in the months I can't. And the cost is equivalent or even a bit less than the new riding mowers I was looking at.

Here's what I've got. The property is 2.5 acres. I did a rough measurement of the mowing area, and it is about 1.8 acres. Terrain is fine in some places, not fine in others. You can see from the picture (aside from the unevenness since the tractor broke mid-mow), the tractor can't get too close to the trees as a couple of the roots are protruding from the ground and two of them are thick. And branches sometimes fall and depending on size, I have to be extremely careful, so usually close to trees I have to hit with a trimmer. Relatively slope free, but gophers, possums, and hedgehogs borough holes in the ground which take a bit to fill up, so I would never say this is flat.

I am considering either a zero turn riding mower - gas or electric, have not decided. Or the Navimow X450. Or the 3 AWD. My concern is both of the robotic mowers have an acerage cap smaller than my lot. Does that mean I can't map larger than 1.5 acres (in other words, my front is barely 1 acre, everything else is in the back. Can I say the front is one map and then make a second map out of the back and alternate mowings?) Or does the software on each of them forbid me from going hard beyond the 1.5 acres? How are the mowers with potentially hard objects, such as protruding tree root? How close can I program these to go around the trees so I don't have to use the trimmer as much as I did? Can they mow and cut up the leaves in the fall as I do not have the time to do that during autumn?

Lastly, my current mower has lasted 21 years. I mean, last few have had a great deal of repairing, but 21 years. How long can I reasonably expect out of these mowers, with regular blade changes and cleaning? And is there an alternative mower you can think of besides the two I mentioned for my situation I haven't considered? Property size and embedded debris are my biggest concerns. Thanks!

My new STECS came. What can I try it out with that’s like……

I have an USA minor l and r stick id been using. The left is a damn mistake, but I really like the R. Not sure yet what I’m gonna do with that l, but I decided the time has come to get what I should have gotten in the first place, this STECS.

I just returned from a trip and tried Deadstick. I saw I came back with something like two days left to try it, so I just used an Xbox controller because I didn’t think I’d have time to set up the STECS before the time expired, but I LOVED playing!

What else is like Deadstick out there I can test this lovely controller on? Not shooty shooty, but with something to do like haul freight, get paid, and deal with a real flight (or space) physics simulation? Don’t feel like shooting things right now, and I wanna put the new config through its paces. My thought initially was Elite, but then Deadstick happened…. Pretty sure MS Flight Sim won’t do it for me either.

And good video series for a beginner to learn?

I love the look of a lot of small kitchen table 40's and 50's tube radios and I know enough to know not to plug in without repair. I was wondering if there were any good reliable youtube channels that teach an absolute beginner what to do. I have no electronics experience but it is my understanding these are not too complicated. Was curious how difficult this would be to learn without either electrocuting myself or burning the house down. Not interested in fixing to sell, just for me.

Trying to remember a game I heard about

I keep thinking about a hard science space sim game I heard about, but can’t remember if it was a coming soon game or if it was out. You are a freight hauler and have to get your freight moved but you need to follow realistic orbital mechanics. Fuel you burn eats into profits, etc. got to properly calculate burn, Newtonian physics, delta v to keep fuel cost as economical as possible while getting your freight safely to its destination.

It is kinda like star trucker meets C-Beams.

Anyone have an idea what it is I’ve been trying to remember?

Things I played today

Playing on the Micro. Unfortunately, no backglass (they don't sell it anymore!!). You know, when I got this thing, I pretty much just wanted to play Tales of the Arabian Knights and occasional other things on Pinball FX. I didn't realize how much I'd love others more. Today was a couple favorites except Arabian!

I can't believe how much I love this Avengers table! Not seeing as many people playing it for some reason.

Just testing out the Spaceballs. Not a favorite .... yet!

And I am still trying to decide if I like VPX Attack from Mars or FX Attack From Mars better. Either way, the table is neck and neck with #1 for me vs Arabian.

Suggestions for SMART pruning my iTunes/Apple Music dupes in Personal Library?

**Crossposted from DataHoarders sub**

I have about 10 tb of music and the drive is getting full, as is its physical backup. I was looking and noticed I had several albums of the same thing but reissued under different names. I was thinking of getting a duplicate checker, but the Google is just giving me either Windows software, or something that checks tags and file sizes. I was wondering if there was a program that would check those things but also maybe also look SONICALLY, at the files to check for duplicates and be smart about it. If a file is 1 or two seconds longer but otherwise the same, I'd like something that could bring it to my attention. I'm okay with a search taking a bit of time.

My music is almost exclusively Jazz and Classical. So my problem is there's literally hundreds of instances of When the Saints Go Marching In, Beethoven Symphony 7, things like this, but they're all different.

Running MacOS 15.7.4 and Apple Music 1.5.6 I have no apple subscription service I'm concerned about, these files are all my own. Most are in ALAC format, with some AAC as well. Probably a few MP3's although I try to avoid or convert when possible.

Going crazy trying to decide. Selling my WinWing Ursa Minor L which was a BAAAAAD choice for me (although the right is decent) and getting a STECS, which I would have done the first time except when I was buying the whole tariff thing in the US was just getting started.

I primarily have 2 games I care about. Il-2 and Elite Dangerous. One space, one flight. I am knocking my head about trying to decide which STECS would be better for both games. I hear good things about the modern in space games, and good things about the space in modern games. Does anyone else have my dilemma? How did you solve it?
