JUST GOT AN INTERVIEW FOR TDSB SECONDARY OT/ETH!

I can’t believe it happened! I wanted to post here since I’ve barely seen anyone get an interview. My teachables are I/S English and History and I applied May 22.

They emailed me with an invitation to an IN PERSON interview, on a specific day next week, with only two timeslot choices on that day, and demanded an answer in less than 24h. (The form also says telephone interview but the heading of the email says in person??) I am super lucky that I can make it. It also says that my references need to respond in 48h or I get disqualified.

Does anyone have any tips for this situation? I know the TDSB interview Qs, but like is this a group interview? I haven’t heard of TDSB doing in person anywhere

Jobs for teachers?

I just graduated my teaching program and NO ONE near GTA is hiring supply teachers (TDSB, YRDSB, and Peel are not hiring, Durham is too far for me. TDSB is technically “hiring” but they just laid off 300 teachers, I applied months ago and heard nothing. )I’ve applied to independent and private schools and heard nothing, I’m assuming they all prefer someone with experience already. I actually had success with applying to jobs at private universities, I got some interviews, but unfortunately just rejections after that.

Are there any other fields I should apply to? Any sites or job boards? I’m searching for program coordination, event facilitator, event coordinator, am I missing anything? Thank you

Is a lease valid if it’s the Ontario Standard Lease but it’s the old 2018 version?

This property management company is giving me the old version. I brought it up but they are being kinda difficult about it. It’s almost the same lease, I honestly don’t care that much because there is nothing sketchy in it, is it a big deal? Thank you

Is it typical for a parking spot to be a separate agreement?

Going to sign a lease tomorrow! The property manager and I negotiated a discount on rent, and he offered a discount on the parking fee as well. He offered the parking discount a little too willingly so I wanted to TRIPLE check that there’s nothing suspicious.

If I sign a SEPARATE agreement for renting my parking spot (not part of the rent), I understand he could change the price or revoke it at any time, making my discount worthless. Is this a typical way to go about parking agreements (not include it in the lease), or should I push for it to be included in the lease?

Are stovetops supposed to have a range hood/vent?

I uploaded pics of a place I was considering into chatgpt and asked it to highlight red flags. I was surprised that “no range hood over stovetop” was brought up.

But then I started noticing that a lot of apartments do have a hood over the oven! I’ve never lived anywhere that has had one :( But I always had a big kitchen window. This place only has a tiny window like 12 feet away. What are people’s thoughts?

What needs to be fixed on the front of this 2012 Corolla?

The bottom grille disappeared while driving on the highway (concerning), so I’m thinking there must be something else it’s attached to that needs replacing? I noticed some of the bumper cover clips are broken too - how to fix?

Is this a good deal? 1 bed/1 bath, parking included, 500 sqft, next to subway, $1975 total

Trying to figure out if I should settle for this place or continue searching!

It’s literally next to a subway station on the Line 2 (don’t want to doxx myself but it’s in the west end near Runnymede), comes with outdoor parking included in the rent, purpose built rental. Laundry is shared tap, no AC in unit (but I don’t care about that at all.) Hydro is NOT included.

Things I don’t *love*: ground floor unit, bad kitchen layout (but it’s liveable.) No balcony or private deck.

Things I like: purpose built rental, building has character, property management company seems reliable. Recently renovated.

My number one priority is getting the cheapest place possible right next to a subway, with parking. (One partner drives to work and the other takes the subway.) Looking for input on if the parking being included here makes it worth it! Thanks

Any reviews on 205 Keele?

I can only find one post where the title says there was a rat infestation in 2024 but it’s been deleted. Has anyone lived there before?

How to apply to 22 Oakmount?

I’m super interested in this building but the super seems very elusive. I called and he told me to apply online before viewing the unit and they would contact me if they are interested. I’m not super comfortable providing all of my documents BEFORE a viewing… is this normal? I read some other positive reviews of the building on here so I’m curious how people are getting in?

Advice - teaching-related jobs in Toronto outside of TDSB?

Hi all, I’ve accepted the reality that I likely won’t get an interview for the TDSB OT list 2026-27 (secondary, I don’t have in-demand teachables.) I was wondering if folks who faced this have ideas for other jobs.

Obviously I will apply to private schools, but I fear I won’t be a competitive candidate as I am a fresh B.Ed graduate with no experience.

Potential jobs I have come across are:
• Ontario Virtual School teacher
• Private school supply teacher / associate teacher
• Online ESL teacher
• Tutoring (Teachers on Call, Oxford Learning Centre, etc.)
• After school camps/programs

Is there anything else I’m missing? Does anyone have insights on what it’s like to work for these companies or programs?

Sadly I have these limiting factors:
• Not eligible for TDSB emergency supply since I hold OCT
• Not eligible for TCDSB since I am not Catholic
• No car so I can’t commute to YRDSB or Peel

My preference is to remain in Toronto. I’m more than happy to work in the service industry for a while if I can’t make ends meet with anything teaching-related, just want to make sure I’m exploring all options so I can keep growing as a teacher in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for any insights! :)

TDSB OT/ETH Application - no verification email?

I withdrew my March 2026 application and applied again for the new hiring cycle, as per the advice of the TDSB website and some commenters on here.

This time, I am getting zero confirmation email that I successfully applied after hitting “Submit.” I tried it twice and got nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Or is it just a glitch?

Queen’s B.Ed - when will we be eligible for full OCT cert?

So I have my Transitional, and am trying to figure out when I can except to be able to apply for my full OCT cert.

Queen’s says it confers degrees on June 1 and November 1. But we are in school until July 31. Do I really have to wait until November 1? I was hoping to take an ABQ in the fall.

(I realize Queen’s would likely know the answer to this, but they are such a nightmare to deal with that I thought I’d ask here first.) Thanks in advance!

TLDR; met with the LL and signed a sublease, which included “1 parking spot” (not specificed where), but she showed me a spot in a paved driveway.

After moving, I get told by neighbours that my spot is actually not in the driveway, but on the dirt beside the building. The landlord confirmed this is true and it was an error when she showed me. I’m okay with that, a spot is a spot.

2 days later, a massive sewer excavation process took place under our spot. Now they’re saying that I cant park there again “until the dirt settles.” But the LL is offering to set up a street parking permit for me. ($25/month, haven’t asked yet if she will cover it but I’m assuming so)

What do you guys think is an appropriate $$ to request in rent reduction? Should the inquiry go to the LL, or the person I’m subletting from? This is in the downtown area of a midsized city. Thanks!

I have a couple of non-B.Ed friends that in the past month, have applied and been on-boarded as Emergency Replavement Person. Meanwhile I’ve been waiting for action on my OT/ETH application for 2 months. Is this standard?
