I really hate when shows throw in a surprise pregnancy

It's actually quite annoying that Maggie is pregnant and she hasn't told Cal and they went on a date and of course had a terrible miscommunication. Of course Maggie won't be transparent about her feelings and Cal will be patient and wait for her to spill what's on her mind. If she ever does. And then Andrew keeps calling. He's such bad vibes. Maggie just makes her life more complicated and it pisses me off. But why the hell did they make her pregnant?!

I don't trust food reviews from most white people (and sometimes just Americans in general), especially if you can't cook.

I recently bought these little Dolly Parton frozen meals. I'm guessing it sells to the people looking for protein + low calorie. I looked up the reviews before I purchased, but really wanted to search "Dolly Parton chicken and dumplings review from Black people" because the person who rated it an 8/10 has never had a dumpling "that wasn't gnocchi" and didn't know what thyme was. I'm sorry, but as a Caribbean who uses thyme frequently, I can't fathom mistaking it with oregano. So I was skeptical.

I notice people who don't know how to cook are also not trustworthy when it comes to food reviews. Trying to say what a dish needs when you can't even distinguish between the flavors already there is wild to me.

And then there's the American palate. People eating the same American fare and never experiencing anything else. How does one do that??

Anyway the chicken and dumplings is probably not something I'd buy again, but they weren't bad.

Edit: American fare = burgers, BBQ, southern comfort, meatloaf, etc.
I was not expecting this meal to be outstanding and my critique of white people and people in America who've only had "American fare" was jus refreshed in my memory when hearing this person say oregano was thyme and gnocchi was the only dumpling they've had.
I am genuinely confused why so many of you read this wrong, but I'm kind of done defending a point I wasn't making 😭

The same women sell chocolate on the R train, but yesterday the cops decided to mess with them

A man was singing for money, had his guitar set up and a mic and everything. He walks around and collects some tips and a young woman selling chocolate bars started to walk through the train. The man gives her a dollar from the tips he just made and as he passes her, the cops enter the car and tell her to get out.

If you ride the R to bay ridge, you see the same 2-3 ladies and sometimes their children selling chocolate for $2.

The man who was singing turns around to see what's going on and the doors close. He makes a valid statement, that they weren't bothering him with his whole ass guitar but they want to bother her.

As the train leaves the station, you see her surrounded by the 3 officers (one of them a little over zealous but whatever) and she's looking in her phone for something.

Just really hope they let her go. If anyone was there or saw anything happen, please update me! Don't want to assume her immigration status, but I really hope it wasn't questioned.

ETA I think they pulled her off the train at 4 ave 9th st

The downvoting and defensiveness on certain comments is really excessive

I assume everyone in this sub (you see what sub this is right?) is not like the others making unnecessary or hateful comments towards our Black islanders. The culture of Reddit is to be downvoted when people don't like what you say, but the comments that are super defensive and almost attacking the members of the subreddit kind of goes against what the purpose of this is imo.
Like a recent encounter I had when I made a comment about an islander and someone replies with "yall exhausting fans"

I hate Black spaces made for us, BY US, but policed amongst us. If that makes sense. We should be free to speak without someone questioning the intention. Whine the comment, or without someone responding with negativity.

Black spaces shouldn't be exhausting because every other space is.

Gym pals

Looking to go to the gym with people who are local. Does anyone go to pure?

I'm not ageist, but I am 31F and would like someone to tag along with who I may get along with.

Community gardens looking for members or helpers

Worth a shot, but does anyone know of any community gardens in the neighborhood?
Bonus if you know if they're open to new people or not or anything about them at all actually

Do we have a post of all the subreddits we should avoid?

I'm just seeing how many LI subs you unknowingly participate in and I want no associations with the hate trains going down in most of them.

Like the fact that there's a r/LoveIslandUSA_ and r/LoveIslandUSA leaves me lost af where I'm commenting until I get a reply or (which is an easy tell) Olandria slander.

I also don't want to cause conflicts with the subs I do love, like this one.

Does anyone know of any community gardens looking for some hands?

Not necessarily my own plot, but I'd like to be able to help out and put my hands in some dirt before we lose this season.

But I've heard so many horror stories.

Areas like Bedstuy and Bushwick have plenty, but I'm looking for more of the Flatbush area. I would say sunset park/bay ridge but there aren't many there and there will be a cultural/language barrier. Correct me if I'm wrong though!

I am Black, early 30s. Which I think is relevant.

AIO for thinking this was the wrong thing to say?

1 year death anniversary of my child's father is next week, so I'm not in the best of spirits. My birthday is tomorrow but I have a mix of grief and birthday blues that just ain't fun. He's most likely taking me somewhere really nice to celebrate, but am I overreacting for being bothered by this?
