Where to buy backlit remote in Canada?

Is there any reputable place I could get the US version of the remote that is backlit?

Canadians don't get that remote unfortunately and I could order from Amazon US but then the remote ends up being the same price as the ONN device with the exchange rate and shipping

Who's afraid of Hasan Piker? My local French Quebec news paper wrote on Hasan.

Original URL in french

https://www.lapresse.ca/international/etats-unis/2026-05-11/decryptage/qui-a-peur-de-hasan-piker.php

Hasan who? The name Hasan Piker circulated widely after the 2024 presidential election among Democrats who wondered why the American left didn't have its own Joe Rogan. A hugely popular podcaster, Rogan had contributed to Donald Trump's victory by rallying young people, some more politically engaged than others, to his cause.

Some Democrats have therefore seen a left-leaning Joe Rogan in Hasan Piker, whose Twitch live-streaming channel now boasts three million subscribers. Aged 34 and based in Los Angeles, Piker doesn't cast his net as wide as Rogan, limiting most of his appearances to politics. But the tireless influencer reaches a young audience that isn't enthusiastic about Barack Obama's party.

And he has made it his mission to help the cause of certain Democratic candidates in the run-up to the midterm elections in November. The question now is whether his presence alongside these candidates will contribute to the success or the failure of the Democratic Party.

Anger incarnate His outburst against Barack Obama gives an idea of his style. During an interview with the host of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert , which aired last Tuesday, the former president discussed his wishes regarding the Republican Party.

“When I was president, people would ask me, ‘What changes would you like to see in Washington?’ I would answer, ‘I would like to have a loyal opposition. I would like a Republican Party that is conservative on some issues—that doesn’t agree with me on a lot of things—but that believes in the rule of law, in the independence of the judiciary, and… in empirical data, in science, and that doesn’t constantly try to stir up the worst in us.’”

The following day, Hasan Piker responded to Barack Obama on Twitch.

I don't want a Republican Party. I want an ineffective, weak, and inept Republican Party, like the Democratic Party is today. I want a Republican Party so thoroughly dominated and publicly humiliated that people would be ashamed to admit they vote Republican.

Hasan Piker, on Twitch, responding to Barack Obama's remarks

There is no doubt that Hasan Piker expresses the anger of many democrats, progressives or leftists.

Accused of anti-Semitism It also embodies another reality: hostility towards Israel.

This sentiment is increasingly widespread among Democrats. No less than 60% of American voters, including 80% of Democrats, have an unfavorable opinion of the Jewish state, according to a Pew Research Center poll published in early April.

However, in Hasan Piker's case, this sentiment stems from an antisemitism reflected in his statements about Israel and Jews, according to his critics. The influencer often complains about being quoted out of context, but he has indeed referred to ultra-Orthodox Jews as "inbred" and described Hamas as "a thousand times better than the fascist colonial apartheid state."

He also stated that the "fucking rapes" committed by Hamas during the October 7 massacre did not change his conviction that Israel perpetrated a "genocide" in the Gaza Strip.

Hasan Piker denies being anti-Semitic. Among his defenders is Ezra Klein, an influential Jewish columnist and podcaster for the New York Times , who cited in a recent article the influencer's denunciations of anti-Semitism and support for Bernie Sanders and Jon Ossoff, two Jewish senators.

"It is an unusual form of hatred of Jews to denounce anti-Semitism and promote Jewish Americans to the presidency," wrote the Times journalist .

A red line? But Democratic elected officials and allied organizations remain steadfast. According to them, Democrats should avoid any legitimization of Hasan Piker, whose controversial views are not limited to Jews or Israel (the influencer notably stated in 2019 that "America got what it deserved on 9/11," a statement for which he later apologized).

"The Democratic Party must draw a red line. Hasan Piker and his anti-Semitic comrades have no place on our side," wrote Jonathan Cowan and Lily Cohen, president and advisor of the centrist group Third Way, in the Wall Street Journal .

They urged elected officials and Democratic candidates to refuse to campaign alongside the influencer or agree to appear on his channel. Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Zohran Mamdani were among the progressives who ignored this request, as was Abdul El-Sayed, a leading candidate in the Michigan Senate race.

Backed by Bernie Sanders, Abdul El-Sayed recently invited Hasan Piker to participate in one of his rallies, saying he wanted to reach "people who have felt excluded for a very long time."

Republicans want him to win the Democratic primary on August 4th. They have already circulated a photo on X of the two men exchanging a fist bump , accompanied by the caption: "America got what it deserved on 9/11."

https://www.notus.org/republicans/senate-republicans-seek-1-billion-for-white-house-trump-ballroom-security

https://www.grassley.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/reconciliation_-_senate_judiciary_committee_title.pdf

Senate Republicans want to provide U.S. Secret Service $1 billion for “security adjustments and upgrades” related to the construction of President Donald Trump’s planned White House ballroom.

The use of public funds would be limited to building “above-ground and below-ground security elements” only, according to the text of a reconciliation package released by Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. It also includes $30.7 billion for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and $3.5 billion for Customs and Border Protection.

“Republicans won’t allow our country to be dragged backwards by Democrats’ radical, anti-law enforcement agenda,” Grassley said in a statement Monday. “The Senate Judiciary Committee is taking action to help provide certainty for federal law enforcement and safer streets for American families. We will work to ensure this critical funding gets signed into law without unnecessary delay.”

The committee is expected to mark up the bill next week before sending it to the full chamber, where it will likely pass via a simple-majority vote.
