Would have it been feasible to create a central rail hub during the Big Dig?

With all the recent discussion surrounding the North South Rail Link and the costs associated with it, I've been wondering if it would have been feasible to, as stated in my title, create a central rail hub that would have combined the routes served by both North and South Stations, including Commuter rails and Amtrak?
I think the ideal location would be where the current South Station is. There would have been plenty of space for expansion. Look at how much space there is with Dewey Square Plaza and the space in front of Tatte. Add to that it's close to all four rapid transit lines.
Now, this would involve rerouting all the Commuter Lines and the Amtrak Downeaster line service by North Station into the new hub at South Station. Obviously, this would have been a massive and costly undertaking. However, I mentioned the Big Dig because at that time everything was being dug up and then would have been the ideal time to do it.

The one day I’m able to get out of work on time, and you have to go and screw it up with your usual single problems nonsense

On the websites of many venues and attractions under the policies, many times it states "use of professional photographic equipment prohibited." I can understand restricting tripods and lighting equipment as those may pose tripping hazards. However, what about the cameras themselves? What exactly constitutes a professional camera? Sure, there are top of the line models from Nikon and Canon that are used by professionals, but many amateurs also use them.
So for example, even though I'm an amateur, can my Pentax 67 be considered professional?
Is it for the most part up to the discretion of the individual venues?

I don’t ever recall seeing people still wearing winter parkas and woolen hats this late into the spring season
