Disappointing capture card results

After using the webcam feature of my Mini DV camcorder when plugged in picked up a cheap capture grabber off amazon and have had to send it back straight away.

If anyone one has any suggestions for reliable and affordable capture cards it would be greatly appreciated as I'm broke.

Brain all melty now

Today had been more than productive and I wasn't even expecting it to be.

Currently half way through my 3rd manuscript I needed to give my brain a little rest while I come up with some important plot specific dialogue that will set up the third act.

So after watching a short stories youtube video this morning I thought sure my not do a short story as a pallet cleanser.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the short story but it has a deep connection to a previous manuscript I wrote in my teenage years so the characters are dear to me and I want to find a way of incorporating them at some point into my current book series. I'll find a way, I always do.

I started at just after 9am this morning worked through with an hours lunch break until 5pm and have hit 10 pages with 8,800 words.

Brain melt so sleep now 😴

Glad that I did it though, it's been fun revisitng these characters and creating a bit more of their history.

My old Camcorder in 2026

Re-started my camcorder journey, I'm not sure if I'll document everything but I can't wait to get out there and ditch my camera phone for tape!

Any tips and advice are always welcome

Just one of those days... fuuuuudge

Do you ever have one or several of those days where you know what you want to write and you spend several writing sessions going down new rabbit hole for a character just to take a step backwards and go fudge, this isn't working.

I think my issue is trying to shoe horn in a character that doesn't fit the narrative just yet. I feel that I've got two chapters that need to be placed into the Deleted Scenes folder even though aspects of the chapters work, I'm just not sure if it's too early in the novel or if it's the right novel entirely.

Anyways self-rant over,

But does anyone else have this issue from time to time?

Weeks Round up #1

To keep myself motivated I've decided to start making weekly round up posts for my writing. After the school hikidays when I have more time I will be youtube blogging these updates too.

Last week was the first full week of the school holidays for my kids and I knew straight away that I wouldn't be writing as much for obvious reasons.

Before the holidays started I managed to finish the second draft for book 2 but in order to give myself a break from thar project I decided to go full steam into book 3.

This week:

- Started draft 1, book 3

- drafted prologue to chapter 4

- 16k words written

- Eyed up a real human artist to replace the cover for book 1 (better start saving)

All in all it's been a good week and very surprised to how much I've managed to complete in such a short period of time.

Chapter by chapter

Background: I'm a hobby writer with dyslexia and I have no idea if I will ever publish my work but I was considering uploading my first novel of my series to my website (neocities).

The potential idea is upload a chapter a month (or as frewquent as I can), do you think it would be worth it? And would you read a novel online for free, no pay walls to read a novel or parts of it at time when the author is ready?

Asking for a friend,

I am my only friend

JVC GR-D31 Power issues

Hello I've recently required my JVC GR-D31 from my parents house with the following issues:

* No power, regardless if the battery is connected or not I am unable to power up or charge the original battery. I'm sure it is possible to power up the camcorder without the battery and the power cable but when the cable is inserted I am get no power.

** I am tempted to get a new battery which looks like it will be a £18 investment but with no power been delivered to the camcorder itself I'm not sure if the issue is the batter or some internal issue

I do have the original manual but it's not helping. It does say on page 7 it say for first time change ot after a long storage period the charging light may not turn on. Which is what is happening in this case.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Author YT channels

I'm looking for youtube channels to where authors talk about their work. I'm not looking for how-to writers channels that tell you everything wrong with what you are doing because they are experts.

I'm looking for honest aspiring authors who make videos discussing what they are doing and what they plan on doing in the future.

I've dabbled in youtube over the years and my current channel focuses on making zines and my physical media. I'm tempted to add my writing journey to my channel even though I have no interest in getting my work published. But I'm not sure if it would be considered interesting content. What are your views?

Blurbs suck

I find writing blurbs the hardest part of novel writing. Just exactly how much information about the book should I disclose without heading to spoiler town.

Does my Blurb sound intriguing enough to pick up?

Covers, front and back, made my me with stock art. No use of AI.

This is for my latest project that I finished today 🍾

Finished within my given deadline

I may make it...

At the start of the week I gave myself a weeks deadline to finish my second draft of my current manuscript. I was skeptical I wouldn't even get close but I feel that the finish line is on reach.

Ideally I want this done by the weekend as the school six week holidays start after Friday as time will become extremely limited

Time writing per week?

A fun little poll, I'm curious to how long you spend writing, editing or general work on your novels or short stories.

For me, on a good week due to life circumstances I have the flexibility to put in 4-5 hours a day (mon-fri), at most a 25hr writing week if I'm having a good week and fewer commitments but realistically I'm looking at the 16-20 hours a week of dedicated time.

I do subscribe to the Stephen King way of writing that it is entirely possible to write a novel within 3 months when you can make time for it.

I would love to know your approach to setting aside time for your projects. I know I am probably in the minoroty of invested hours just because of my situation.

Big mistakes were made

As someone who repeatedly failed English in secondary school, writing has been and always will be a hobbiest passion regardless of my technical skill level.

It disheartened me today to realise that I made the mistake of capitalising the first word after dialog. Not just on my current project but also my first. As someone who wants to have a novel that both looks the part and reads the part. It's time to go back and correct two novels worth of mistakes even though I have no intentions of getting published or self publishing.

None the less, this is only a minor set back that will hopefully further strengthen my storytelling.

Mortal of my stroy, mistakes will be made and that's okay. I'm enjoying the journey through regardless of the terrain, potholes (not plotholes) are everywhere.

Two week deadline...

With the Uk school holidays quickly approaching I've given myself two weeks to finish the second draft of my second novel. Typically I spend 3-4 hours a day (mon-fri) on my written projects and so I'm hoping, without putting to much pressure on myself that this second draft, roughly half a books worth can have its second draft before all momentum is lost.

I found this at the start of the year when I was editing my first book that before xmas I was putting in 3-4 hours a day only to drop to doing next to nothing for two weeks. Having breaks are good and are much needed but lets just see if I can finish 14 chapters within the next 10 days. That's only 1.4 chapters a day... Wish me luck and I'll do an update in two weeks to see if I was talking out my ass or if I was actually able to get this finished.

Quick music question

In a future novel I'm thinking of having it musically centred, has anyone added music lyrics to your manuscript and how did you finding writting lyrics?

I have no music talent what so ever 😕 but music makes good feels

Pleasure over profitability

So I guess a little background my be required, I'm a college drop out with no formal qualifications but I have a huge passion for writing and story telling. Earlier this year after completing two drafts of my novel I got my manuscript printed to a professional standard and now it it's nicely on my self, waiting for the Mrs to find the time to read.

I have little to no expecting of getting published or any interest in self publishing. My question is am I the only one?

The moment a hobby starts becoming a job, I loose all passion and interest and I wouldn't definitely would not be a charismatic forward facing author that radiats any sense cool, I've tried.

Part of me is like, well all the Ai slop out there a book by a bad author is better than one written by a computer but I really don't know if it is something I should pursue.

Pic of my book and over I designed myself, I can't draw but by using stock images I was able to make something that I enjoy looking at.

This is my accomplishment, however small and however unseen...
