Work Bag Recommendations

Corporate girlies what is your top recommended work bag?

Needs to be big enough to fit a laptop & 1L Yeti drink bottle. Ideally with a few compartments.

Has to be leather, ideally in a choc brown/tan colour

Budget up to $300

Have had a look at Oroton but nothing there is taking my fancy, or is big enough for my needs.

Has anyone done the Japanese in 12 course?

I am a sceptic to my core 😅 all the reviews on the website seem exaggerated or are written in a way that seems very inauthentic - it gives off MLM vibes without actually being an MLM. Same kind of language.

It’s also quite expensive. Website states $395 but fails to advertise that’s in USD (despite the chick who runs it being Australian??) it’s almost $600 AUD. For just 15 hours total of lessons.

Hoping to get some genuine feedback from people who have done the course or who know someone who has.

Syd Graham Saundra Skirt

Has anyone made this skirt and can comment on if the finished garment is true to size?

I have made both the lane pants and the skyline dress previously. I made the size that matched my own measurements but both finished garments were at least 2 sizes too big.

I’m already quite large in my hips compared to my waist and don’t want a skirt that adds too much bulk around my hips but not sure about sizing down.

Playing offline - Nintendo Switch 2

Bought HL on my Switch 2 (already have it on PS5) so I can play it on a long haul flight later this week. I’m testing it out at home without having my switch connected to wifi and the game won’t work.

Google tells me I should be able to play offline.

Any ideas?

Tips to get better/more even gathers

I absolutely HATE gathering. But unfortunately the type of clothes I like to wear (and hence make) often have gathers.

No matter how much garments I make I struggle with the gathering.

I already cut notches at certain intervals to gather sections at a time rather than all at once. Any other tips to improve other than just keep practicing??

Overlocker/Serger Recommendation Australia

Can anyone please recommend an overlocker/serger available in Australia, preferably something I could buy in store. Budget of $600-$800.

Currently using a 30+ year old Singer. It’s not handling mid-heavy weight fabric it keeps snagging and unthreading and I think it’s a sign it’s time to upgrade to something newer.

TIA!

Hozy super glitchy?

Bought Hozy as it’s currently on sale. Already on level 2 it’s glitchy. The whole game crashed and when I restarted only half the boxes were missing and it let me complete the level without half the furniture.

Then moved onto level 3 and it won’t let me clean most the windows.

Anyone else experienced this?

The overacting by Erika - Season 11

First time watching through RHOBH currently on season 11 after Tom’s fraud and embezzlement has come to light. Erika’s overacting throughout this season is absolutely sending me.

Currently watching the dinner party at Kathy’s. The single dramatic tear rolling down Erika’s face, the voice that goes about 5 notes deeper.

Cannot take this seriously. You cannot convince me Erika wasn’t 100% complicit in Tom’s shady nonsense.

Dog breeder de-sexing contracts

Just saw a post on an Australian dog group on Facebook about de-sexing contracts.

Someone posted about a de-sexing contract their breeder made them sign on purchase of their dog, saying they have to de-sex their dog by 6 months old.

Another person commented that when they got their dog they signed a similar contract, only theirs stated if their dog got pregnant/sired a litter, the owner would have to pay the breeder some obscene amount of money + another obscene sum for every puppy in that litter.

Putting aside the ethical issues of non-experienced people backyard breeding puppies, are these kind of contracts legally enforceable?

I would have thought once a breeder sells a dog and that dog is given to the new owner, the breeder has no say over what happens to that dog. But curious to hear others take.

Edit to add:

I am genuinely just curious. I have no intention of backyard breeding. Both my dogs are de-sexed.

Qantas Economy Plus NRT -> SYD

Flying Narita (Tokyo) to Sydney in a few months and noticed the Qantas Economy Plus seats have opened up.

I have seen some posts on here talking about domestic or short haul international routes.

Does anyone have experience with these seats on longer haul international routes, especially regard long leg room. Is it comparable to an exit row seat?

My partner and I are both over 6’3 and normally book exit row seats but none are available on this flight. Thanks

Company has shipped half my order and is now ghosting me

I pre-ordered 2 vinyl records from an Australian music merch company a few months ago. One for me and one for a friend.

Only 1 album was delivered. The tax invoice/fulfilment slip in the box shows 2 items being fulfilled. Granted it might be odd for someone to order 2 of the same record, so can understand a packing error being made.

The company does not have a phone number, only email contact. I have emailed them to ask them to rectify x 2, each one week apart and they are now ghosting me.

I intend to commence charge back processes through my credit card, but is it worth lodging it with fair trading? Are they likely to do anything? And if so, I’m guessing this would be lodged through VIC fair trading? (I am based in NSW).

Learning “To-Do List”

I am just starting my Japanese learning journey.

For a few weeks I have been using Duolingo, and have found that helpful to start to familiarise myself with some basic phrases and sentence structure. But definitely see the limitations and want to move away from this app.

I would like to create a “to-do list” of the essential things to cover in my study in the first 6 months. I guess sort of like the learning objectives professors give at the start of a college course.

In 6 months I would like to go back and tick things off to show my progress and understanding of the things I have learnt.

I thought who better to ask than people who are on their own Japanese learning journey.

What would you consider the essential items to add to this list for the first 6 months of learning, starting as an absolute beginner?

So far I have

  1. Learn all Kana

  2. Learn 50 kanji (is this not enough? Too ambitious?)

  3. Learn simple particles

  4. ~300 vocab words

Thank you for your advice.

Interested to see if any of you speak other languages (other than your native language)

I know some lucky people have a natural aptitude for languages.

For those who learnt other languages before Japanese, how much more difficult did you find Japanese compared to the other languages?

Was there any techniques you used to learn other languages that you think also helped with Japanese?

Planning our second trip to Japan in Feb 2027. We are heading north this time around for the for the first time. We plan to use the Shinkansen/limited express from Tokyo to Sapporo on the way there - but are breaking it up over several days stopping at Sendai and Aomori.

It’s a looooong travel day to do it all in one trip, which would be the case on the way back. We are looking at flying back to Tokyo after a few days in Sapporo but is this risky given its snow season. How regularly do flights get delayed or cancelled from Sapporo in Feb?

As I understand, the trains are less affected by the weather but sitting on a train for 8 hours in one go makes my eyes water.
