hi! I asked this on this sub a couple years ago and was so heartened by the response. I’ve since deleted the original thread, though I remember really connecting with ppl on this matter. anyways—what bright eyes lyrics remind you of living with ocd? which ones help?
hi. I don’t know what to do. My best friend (C) told me that she was explaining my ocd symptoms to another friend (N, who, for context, also has ocd, though from what I understand it’s milder) and N said that I sound like a school shooter. For context a lot of my fears surround harm ocd, moral scrupulosity ocd, and religious ocd.
C has been living with me for a while because of family stuff and I guess being so close physically has meant she’s been exposed to more of my symptoms, which meant that she’s been speaking to other friends such as N about it more.
I think C was telling me N’s about being a school shooter to try to get me to snap out of it, like if I could see how badly other people interpret it maybe I can try harder to fix it. I understand that it’s draining to live with me of course, I know I’m a lot, but I’m also in ERP, on meds, using hotlines whenever things get bad. I just don’t know what to do.
C also reported that N said that this doesn’t even sound like ocd, that it’s something worse and C sounded like she agreed. C can be super supportive, she’s my best friend ever, but she does have a pattern of using stigmatizing language to describe my symptoms (saying, for instance, that I sound psychotic or insane or schizophrenic), or reporting unhelpful things others have said about my ocd (for instance, her therapist said that ocd is often people attention seeking).
I’m just so hurt and frustrated and don’t want to lose her. I’m scared that she hates me. I’m scared that everyone’s right and that I’m a bad person. I’m scared that everyone thinks of me as insane. I’m scared that I’m faking ocd and am actually a dangerous person like they say.
Hi, I’m in my twenties, I have diagnosed OCD, panic disorder, depression, recovered from anorexia/bulimia, whatever. I recently started ERP with a new therapist, and while she’s nice I’m struggling with feeling like I don’t know how to express that I feel like my symptoms are getting worse and that doing ERP on minor ocd themes (for instance, minor compulsions around contamination, checking, etc) isn’t doing it for me anymore.
I’m struggling lots right now with medication adherence because of my ocd, and I know from past experience that being off my meds isn’t good for me (hospital, unsafe behaviour, etc). I was hoping to express how urgent I find this to be but her response is mainly “aw, that’s tricky” and we move on. Or a month or so ago I hurt myself doing a dangerous compulsion and needed stitches, and when I reported this to her she had a similar response.
I’m not saying that I want her to pity me, or that I want necessarily to be placed in a more intensive treatment plan, but I’m struggling to feel like therapy is addressing anything important while I feel like my world is getting smaller because of my OCD.
hi sorry im sounding really dramatic i know I just have been consumed for the past near year by fear of medication taking it not caring about my normal obsessions worrying that it’ll make me bad im working on it in ERP but really not fast enough its at the point where I can take a dose like 2x a week feeling sick from withdrawals all the time spending most of my time trying to figure out if i “deserve” my meds and i know i need to stay on them it gets like dangerous when im not on them ER visits physically unsafe etc i dont know what to do about this ERP is going so slowly and im so embarrassed that i dont know how to ask people like my roommate for support but i do feel like having external prompting or having someone monitor my meds would be helpful im afraid things are getting so much worse I dont know what to do im not safe off them
I’ve been on about 10+ combinations of meds for chronic ocd, anxiety, and depression. usually my treatment plan is changed and I’m put on a new medication if I get to a point of crisis + end up in the hospital/in some other kind of emergency psych consult, or if my ocd becomes so bad that I stop my meds compulsively and I have to restart from nothing.
I’ve noticed I’m just really depressed lately and struggling lots with ocd and I’m wondering if it’s best to catch it before it escalates to me either stopping my meds or needing emergency interventions. I’m currently on 20mg lexapro, 300mg Wellbutrin, seroquel for sleep, and Ativan as PRN.
I guess I’m having trouble identifying warning sides in the earlier stages of crisis. how do you know that you need to switch meds? what are the warning signs for you that what you’re taking is no longer working?
