Re-finishing scratched up old library catalog.

I just got this old card catalog. It's gotten heavy use and It's not in great condition and there's nothing valuable about it to the best of my knowledge. I just want to make it look better, sand it down, remove the blemishes and scratches, re-stain it, etc. and then use it to store things.

I've never refinished anything before, but I watched a few youtube videos, I've read quite a bit on this subreddit, and it looks doable. I think it will be beautiful and it seems like a fun project.

Looks like solid wood, no veneer, but I don't know what kind of wood it is.

My plan was just to sand it down and re-stain it.

Looking on this subreddit, it sounds like maybe my next course of action depends on what kind of stain this is. Does it actually matter, and if so, how do I figure it out?

Should I strip it with a chemical first or just sand it down? I gather from this subreddit citrus-based stripper isn't a good choice, so what should it be stripped with if anything?

The hardware seems like it's in good enough condition to me tho i may have to unscrew it to sand the fronts of the drawers underneath the brass.

The front panel of a couple of the drawers are split. I'm ok with that, or is there something I should (or even can?) do to those to improve them?

There's also some damage to the wood between the drawers in a couple areas (see photos) that I'm not sure is repairable. Should I just sand that down too and stain it like everything else?

Anything else you'd do to this cabinet (or NOT do)?

Thank you!

Highlight Colors are barely visible and now unusable for their intended purpose.

Are the Evernote folks not familiar with the fact that when people buy highlighter markers at the store, they're Bright, Intense, Neon colors for a reason? Specifically, so that you can SEE and NOTICE them, and they STAND OUT. (Just do a google image search for "highlight text" and look at the colors people use!) If anything, the old highlight colors were already barely bright enough. To reduce that further seems just crazy to me.

One really nice use of highlighting text is that you can scroll fairly quickly through a note, and the highlighters were really visible so you know right where to stop scrolling. But with these pale pastel colors, you just scroll right past them.

I'm totally fine with having these pale, practically invisible pastel colors as an OPTION for people who don't care about highlighting actually being a useful feature, but they should be an OPTION. Why did they change this?? Were customers complaining that the highlight colors did TOO GOOD a job at HIGHLIGHTING?

Person B: I hope it hurt. He deserved it.

How to AUTO-insert Ukulele fretboard diagram INSTEAD of guitar?

I have chord symbols (Dm, C, etc.) in my score. I right-click and choose "Add Fretboard Diagram" and it adds a guitar fretboard. How to make it default to uke instead? (I do have a Ukulele chord palette already created/loaded into MS)

I totally understand the guitar is the default, but surely there's a way to make it default to a different fretted instrument instead?

I can drag them manually from the uke chord palette to the score, but that's a very tedious process, and the palette doesn't actually show the name of the chord except as a mouseover popup, so you have to mouse over each chord til you find the one you want and then drag it. Repeat, ad nauseum.

Smallest, shortest, most low-energy pride parade I have ever seen in 40 years of attending Pride parades.

What even was that?? They shut down streets and paid money for permits for that?? It was BIZARRELY short. Did I miss something??

Then the line just to get IN to the festival was a half hour long, which was longer than the actual parade.

How to print 228 labels on laser printer (Mac)

I'm trying to print some 228s on my laser printer (from Photoshop, but I'm willing to print from Preview or Acrobat or anything else if it will work!) but I'm having an incredible amount of trouble getting everything to work properly and line up right when I feed the labels one by one into the printer. I've set the page size to be the size of a 228 (approx 4.25 x 5.5 in) The image/text often prints half-on, half-off the printer. Does anyone have experience in doing this and can offer suggestions/pointers, which settings to use, etc?

(I mostly do hand-drawn and linocut 228s but there are some things I'd like to create in larger quantities)
