Are there any affordable, short-term places for rent?

I'll be in the city looking for an apartment next week which can take a while, especially when certain property mgmt companies seem to have little interest in showing you places or returning calls/emails. Maybe I'm not contacting the right ones.

I'd rather not pay 3k/month for an airbnb. Are there any safe and reputable companies that rent at reasonable prices for short-term (a few weeks to a month)?

Is it normal for landlords to ask for full rent price as the damage deposit?

Looking at renting an apt in SJ and first time I've come across this in an ad:

Rent: $1,150 + Utilities Extra
Damage Deposit: $1,150

In other provinces I've paid usually 50% of the rent or less for damage deposits. Seems pretty steep, especially for this bachelor w/ solid stone walls and one window.

Osmo Pocket 3 vs [insert Temu clone]

I'm looking for a solid vlogging camera, preferably 4k, min 60fps with good stabilization and an input for wireless mics. Osmo pocket 3 checks all the boxes. I'm living on a super tight budget atm though. Has anyone tried one of the Temu clones of the Osmo pocket 3? Does it even compare?

Has anyone taken augmented NAC for spike detox?

I bought some Augmented NAC recently as my post-vaccine symptoms are still present after 4+ yrs. I've done detoxes in the past, especially parasite detoxes, where you need a binder (activated charcoal, chia seeds, etc) to bind to the toxins/parasite debris you're detoxing out of your organs and tissues, but I have no idea what sort of protocol will work with this pill. Apparently some people get detox/Herxheimer-like symptoms after taking it, which I want to avoid if possible.

I'm fairly certain my body is still producing spike and probably has a lot to detox out of it. Does anyone have a protocol that's worked for them, or did you just take it like any other pill sans side effects?

Are markets still worth the money, time & effort?

I live in a town and have to travel to reach bigger markets in my province. The last market I did was in a city-- other vendors (who are great people) were the only ones who bought my products, which was nice of them.

I spent $90 for an airbnb and burned 3/4 of a tank of gas to get there. My net profit was probably $40, or less--minus table fees--$10!

Removing the time+energy to prepare, the market itself was 6hrs of standing there, scrolling my phone, smiling at people who blankly looked at me or moved on the moment I said something, and I'm not pushy or abrasive at all. I realize this is par for the course but it's discouraging.

If I want to keep doing bigger markets, I'll have to invest in a $300+ tent/canopy, new table $120, and marketing materials $300+, which is a lot right now as I'm not working.

Are markets really worth all the time and effort? Table fees eat into profit. Sometimes there are already 1-2 vendors there selling the same product as me. I'm a new business so I don't know if I'm overreacting or just bad at public sales.

Is it true that you shouldn't read reversed cards w/ TdM?

Asked if I'd get a job I'm interviewing for and it gave me 7 of wands which looks identical either way other than that the copyright Grimaud sign is in bottom left corner.

Places to avoid in Uptown?

I'm from NS and am moving to SJ soon. I've visited several times these past few years and am surprised by the amount of open drug use and crime, though I'm a bit used to it having lived in larger cities most my adulthood.

But in those cities, crime was more confined to certain neighborhoods. In SJ, it seems to be spread out through Uptown. I love Uptown though and want to find an apt there.

I was going to view one on Orange St but a woman who lived there said a man tried to enter her open window. As a single woman, that scares the shit out of me. I also plan to park my car on the street.

Are there certain streets/areas in Uptown I should avoid? Is East SJ better?

Where does the social anxiety / need for isolation come from?

I used to be social almost every wkend. I had 2-3 close friends I could call at any time. Now I go weeks without seeing or talking to friends.

I just moved to a place closer to family who I see regularly, which can be good or exhausting. But friend-wise, I haven't felt a dire need to 'get out there' and form new friendships.

I don't like the lack of friends, but I can't seem to tolerate people like I used to if I don't like their vibe, things they say that are boring, fake or invasive.

As for dating, I deleted the apps a year ago and have given up hope (I only date women, so Idk what that says about me or the dating pool.)

I've never felt this alone while also not wanting to put myself out there anymore. I've been like this since 2021, have made numerous attempts to change through action, and therapy isn't an option.

Doing my 1st market in a city, not sure where to start.

I'm doing my first market soon in Canada. Small city, popular market. It's taking place at night and the city has a high crime rate/homelessness. I'm doing it alone and am not from the area so I'm staying at an airbnb.

I have a shopify store, though their POS terminal isn't included in my plan and my cell phone has sensitive info on it. I could delete the info off, or use an older phone but I only have one SIM card.

Is providing a POS / tap option for customers the norm nowadays? And/or what cash float would you usually bring to a small city market (my products range from $6 to $25)?

I feel like I'm flying blind so any tips, info, or recommended sites would be hugely helpful. Thanks!

Why can't I trade ETFs?

I can't buy ETFs in my IBKR TFSA but I have been for years in my Questrade TFSA. No idea if this is income related as I left a high paying job last year, so before I opened this account. If this is the case, it seems like a pretty ridiculous rule to me or am I missing something? Is there any kind of work around?

Any advice on dissolving a QC corporation?

I created a QC corporation via Ownr a few years ago, which was a mistake looking back. Although I never went in the red, it was a meaningless endeavor as profits were minimal and I've moved outside the province.

I'm short on money now and am doing taxes, dissolution, etc, myself. I filed my last returns (T2+CO17), and instead of hiring lawyers, will write my letter of dissolution and submit to REQ.

Other than submit my final returns, pay final taxes and submit a letter of intent to dissolve (in French) to REQ, is there anything else I'm missing?

If killing your algo can happen when posting videos on socials, how do you boost viewership?

I started a channel 2 years ago of long-form type content on high curiosity subjects in the paranormal/occult space.

First video did fairly well, now YouTube has almost completely stopped showing all my other videos (maybe mentioning conspiracy topics did it?), despite that their production quality is higher and subject matter more interesting IMO.

I tried changing title, description, etc. I posted several shorts- one of them helped, then I did one on a conspiracy topic, and it's like my channel just shut down. It violated community rules apparently.

Thumbnails are quite good so idk what to do other than to keep posting more videos. Any advice is appreciated.

Anyone else live under Venus Square Ascendant?

Recently moved from a city where I had Pluto Square Ascendant and Jupiter Square MC. It was pure Hell sometimes.

I definitely notice a positive difference where I live now, despite having Venus Square Ascendant here and a Venus ruled natal chart (sun+venus in Taurus, moon Libra, MC in Taurus).

What I've noticed so far:

- I eat and crave food 25+% more, and it's usually sugar/junk food. In my previous city, I was intermittent fasting constantly, never ate junk food, and only ate when I was starving.

- I feel a bit more nervous and awkward interacting with new people but they're warmer overall. In my previous city, people were often colder and abrasive during interactions for no reason so I'd intentionally disconnect.

- I'm more physically lazy, despite being closer to hiking trails. A day or 2 will pass where I've gotten no exercise. I would've killed to be close to a hiking trail in my previous city-- went on a 45min walk everyday rain or shine.

Advice on Meta Business Partner invites after viral reel?

Recently posted a reel on FB that went viral. Since then, I get multiple "Business Manager partner requests" per day. I click on the "view requests" and there's nothing there, though the Meta business interface is overly complex and confusing.

Are these just spam? I've just been ignoring them.

I recently started posting shorts to help my channel grow. The first few got views-- one even got 1k, resulting in some subscribers.

My channel is conspiracy and occult type content. On Tiktok, my account has gotten multiple warnings for reels I posted recently from survivors of 'Epstein like' parties. I find it really strange that the 4 YouTube shorts I posted last night aren't being shown to anyone. 0 views on all.

I'm wondering if they block content without your knowledge as I see no warning notifications.

I'm a music artist with a paranormal YT channel. My genre is darkwave, so it sort of fits. My Spotify reliably has 5k monthly listeners and my YT channel following is low but building.

What I'm noticing on Meta socials is that no one cares about what I post. I post reels of my YT docs, no one cares. I post reels of new music, 2% care. I post something vulnerable or introspective, 1% care. I've been doing this for several years with little to no result, though Tiktok has been good for YT doc shorts.

Making music and paranormal docs are things I truly enjoy, but the time+effort of posting reels into a void while my friends and random people just scroll past, there's no ROI. It doesn't affect my streams either. My monthly listeners will skyrocket one month while my Meta socials lose followers.

The lack of engagement despite all my efforts is demoralizing after a while. So maybe this post is more of a rant or I need a reason to keep going, but IG and FB feel like a total waste of time.

I have 3k monthly listeners on Spotify, my social media engagement is pretty horrible (can't seem to ever get any traction), and my youtube is the same despite some pretty amazing music videos.

My background is in film so it's been easier for me to make videos, though it takes a lot of work on my part: 1-2 days shooting and often 3 weeks editing at night/wkends (25-40+hrs) per video.

Even my best music videos sit at 600-700 views on YT with 70 followers. It's kinda sad looking back given all the effort. I do use them as canvases on Spotify but not sure if it helps.

I’m a native French speaker, born in Quebec City to a Quebecois dad and a Nova Scotian mom, so I’m completely bilingual. I live in BC now where French is pretty much non-existent, and I honestly just had one of the most infuriating experiences of my life.

I met this guy through friends at a gathering who just got his work permit extension through the Francophone Mobility Program. When he found out I was French, he got all excited and tried to switch languages to impress me and the others. I kid you not, I stood there for ten minutes trying to decipher a single word he was saying. I couldn't understand anything. It sounded like he was speaking Mandarin or Portuguese, but apparently, that was his version of French. He couldn't understand a single word of incredibly basic sentences to him either... sentences that literally most English Canadians learn in grade school.

The worst part? He was actually proud of it. He was smirking and bragging about how he spent four months memorizing basic phrases just to pass the test, and he laughed about how stupid the Canadian immigration system is. Literally called the program a loophole for his stay and said the system is riddled with them.

He actually laid out his entire strategy like it was a game. He kept extending a study permit for years while not even going to school just so he could work at and still is employed by...you guessed it..Tim Hortons. Then he applied for a PGWP knowing full well he wasn’t eligible, just to buy two years of implied status processing time. When that was finally refused, he applied for reconsideration to milk another nine months. When they finally told him to leave, he just hopped onto a visitor status and then used this fake French permit as his final move. His wife has taken the same route. He even bragged that four of his friends have taken advantage of this loophole and claims his other friends will do the same when their permits expire so they can jump on the French bandwagon too. I ended up having to walk away because I was so livid.

After this infuriating experience, I went home did some digging to find out how is this even possible? I found out in 2023, the former Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, officially dropped the requirements from a Level 7 down to a Level 5. Like really dude? A Level 5 is not even French; it’s not enough to work in the language or actually integrate or cominicate clearly. By lowering the bar, the government is treating our culture like a cheap administrative checkbox and practically inviting this kind of fraud.

The egregious part is that there is no cap on this program. While the government is pretending to fix immigration by capping international students, they’ve left this backdoor wide open with zero limits on purpose and made it easier for all to use it.These permits are also granted for two years at a time and can be extended indefinitely as long as the person has a job offer. Apparently its extremely easy to find and employer thats is willing to do this as long as they can keep supressing wages and paying "supervisors" minimum wage and work them 16 hour days. Its a vicious circle. Furthermore, theoretically, every single tfw or international student can and probably will take advantage of this. As long as they have a pulse and can mumble through the insanely low requirements, no one ever has to leave. Take that unemployed Canadians /s

This is happening while youth unemployment in Canada has spiked to over 14%—the highest it’s been in 15 years outside of the pandemic. Our own students can't find entry-level work, yet the government is letting people like this brag about gaming the system to take those exact jobs, while keeping wages suppressed for Canadians to keep corporate greed strong Because this program is a special stream, employers don't have to prove they tried to hire a Canadian first or pay a fair local wage. They’re just importing people into 100% English-speaking jobs using a language they can’t even speak as a backdoor.

THEY ARE BASICALLY ALLOWING OUR LANGUAGE TO BE USED AS A PIECE OF TRASH; A BULLSHIT TOOL FOR PEOPLE TO BYPASS OUR LAWS, WHILE THEY SHOW ZERO RESPECT FOR THE CULTURE THEY’RE SUPPOSEDLY REPRESENTING WITH NO INTENT OF EVERY LEAVING.

If the government doesn't start tying these permits to actual French-speaking jobs and raising the bar back to actual fluency, the whole system is a total fraud and is causing more harm to Canadian citizens and cost of living than good.

Between the government playing smoke and mirrors with these loopholes and even the Humboldt bus driver evading deportation this week, it is clear this disconnected and out of touch government(s) and legal system without a doubt prioritizes non-citizens and grants TFWs unprecedented leniency while holding Canadian citizens to the absolute letter of the law, where the same infractions would be met with the full, unyielding weight of the legal system and severe consequences.

The system is broken and needs a complete rebuild. Time to prioritize our Citizens for once.
