I just came back from Keji and bought a license to fish in the park. The first thing they tell you is if you catch chain pickerel you have to bring them to a designated drop off area (so they can inspect the stomach contents) or dispatch them yourself.

I didn’t end up catching anything which was just as well for me I hate catching those creepy ass pickerel. But I spoke to a park ranger before I left and we spoke more about the chain pickerel problem in the park and they told me a couple of really surprising things. First off they didn’t have their first pickerel until 2018 and it is no longer “if” you catch a pickerel - that’s all you’re going to catch. I know officially they say 9 out of 10 fish caught in the park are now chain pickerel but he showed me the numbers so far this year (as they now request anglers to fill out a log of where they caught fish and what they were).

So your chances of catching a chain pickerel are an astronomical 97.5%

The ranger also mentioned that they attempted an electrocution method where they would zap a stream or body of water and stun the fish, collect the pickerel and let the native fish stay. They quickly gave up as it simply wasn’t enough to make any real impact.

I know this clip in on one of the clip shows they did somewhere around the 150’s. It’s the one where Bry is reading the complaint from the guy who tried raising money for his film Quarter Life Crisis and Walt takes him to task. I’m looking for the show where the guy writes back to complain and then Walt decides to send the guy some TESD buttons so he can make some of his money back and Bry mentions how after postage he will only make a dollar or two and Walt exclaims “What the fuck does he want?” Always made me die laughing.

Anyone know what episode that’s from?

Having a well known member of the anthill pass over the past week or so made me start doing some thinking.

Historically - despite a real desire to know - we have never found out just how many people listen to Tell Em Steve Dave every episode. Q made a mention early on of the number being “well over 100k”. This number was before the success of both tv shows - but also before they had literally millions of other podcasts as competition to contend with. Another way of attempting to gauge how many listeners they have is using their paid patreon subscribers. It is said that the average podcast will convert about 3% of its subscribers to paid patreon subs. The boys have been right around the 6,000 paid subs mark for a number of years. Meaning they would need 200,000 listeners to get 3% to upgrade.

But for the purposes of this post I think it is quite safe to assume the boys have 100,000 active subscribers - agreed?

So with that as the jumping off point - and using America as the baseline for the world - that means that each year the anthill experiences,

- 4 of us are murdered

- 145 of us die from cancer (although our demo likely skews somewhat younger making this number probably lower in actuality)

- 37* of us experience a sexual assault (this stat is likely tougher to gauge based on a heavily male demographic) *the one time I don’t feel right saying the thing.

- 229 of our cars are stolen

- 282 of our homes are broken into

- 541 of us will find ourselves sent to jail or prison this year (although I don’t know how much overlap there is between the incarcerated population and podcast listening audience - not to mention that figure sounds awfully high)

- 12.9 of us will die in an automobile accident

- roughly that same number 12.8-13.9 of us will be killed with a firearm this year (this and the prison stats are obviously very heavily skewed to our American brother and sister ants)

- we each spend roughly $340 a year on lottery tickets

- 18 of us will yell at a customer service agent in the next year

- 500 of us will have cosmetic surgery performed

Pretty wild when you think of it like this.

I started doing the math on it and realized I’m literally better off buying a premium loaf of gf bread from a bakery than I am buying pre packaged gf bread flour.

But I think buying the brown flour, white flour, potato starch, xantham, etc would be much more cost effective.

Can anyone share their gf bread flour recipe?

Although I am getting close.

I’m using a scale and Chat GPT is giving me the correct measurements.

I’m using Bob’s Red Mill 1-1 baking flour (the blue and white bag of gf flour). I’m doing a roux, I’m using psyllium husk fiber, I’m using five egg whites and half an egg yolk. Then canola oil and a warm water. I then blend up the roux, the psyllium gel, the egg whites (and partial yolk) and add it to the dry ingredients (the flour, salt, yeast and sugar). Mix well, proof for an hour in 85 degree heat. Then in 9x5 greased bread pan I cook the loaf for 15 minutes on 425, then reduce to 375 and continue cooking for an additional 35 minutes. At this point the bread has an internal temp of 210. I leave it in the pan on a cooling rack for 15 minutes (where it ever so slightly dips SOB!!!) and then remove it carefully and rest it on the cooling rack for 17 hours until this morning.

It’s the best attempt I’ve ever made by far. I only have two slight nitpicks - the top did collapse ever so gently, and it feels like a heavy brick when I hold it.

PS the 1-1 flour already has xantham gum in case anyone is wondering.

Any tips? I would really appreciate it.
