Best free alternative to Zotero?
I enjoy Zotero, except for one feature that I find to be a dealbreaker, which is the automatic highlighting of words that appear in the bibliography, as well as the pop-ups that appear when you hover over them. I also find the way the team has been responded to users who have requested for an opt-out to be unprofessional. What's the best free alternative? That doesn't have automatic mandatory highlighting, of course.
How to get rid of automatic highlighting for names present in the bibliography
Here's one example. Dominick is highlighted because the bibliography features a citation from someone with the surname of Dominick. I don't want this to be highlighted, every page is covered with highlighted names and it's annoying. How do I disable this?
Vote for the best of these 10 films in 4 different ways (Anyone who's seen at least 2 of the 10 most popular films with at least 6 million watches on Letterboxd)
surveyhero.comAny free survey makers that allow you to rank options AND select an N/A option?
I can't find any free survey makers that include a ranking option that allows people to not include a certain ranking in the option. Every survey maker I can find either doesn't have ranking (such as Google Forms), doesn't include an N/A option (such as Microsoft Forms), or locks ranking behind a paywall (such as Survey Monkey). Is there any free survey makers that allows you to include ranking, but allows the participant to choose not to rank certain options? I also would prefer one with either no participant limit or a participant limit of at least 100 on the free tier.
EDIT: Found one! It's surveyhero.com. The free tier has no response limit and it allows you to give respondents the option to remove options from ranking. Leaving this up in case anyone finds this handy.
How to update BIOS without cursor?
I'm trying to update my BIOS through the Lenovo website in order to fix a disappearing cursor issue, but I stumble across this pop-up. I don't know how to navigate without a cursor, using arrows or tab+arrow doesn't work. I press enter and I think it interprets that as cancel because whenever I press enter the enter update process seems to stop, the file closes and my laptop remains on. How to I update this when I don't have a cursor?
Tired of Reddit's obsession with self-diagnosis
It seems like every day I see someone go on about how harmful self-diagnosis is, or how much they hate self-diagnosis, or asking everyone what they think about self-diagnosis. I'm tired. I'm self-identified and I don't really talk about it much, I'm literally just minding my own business, and Redditors literally can not. shut. up about it. I'm not asking you to be fully supportive of self-identification, but can you just stop obsessing about us?? It's none of your business. But I swear every day on Reddit there's someone blaming the ableism they've faced on self-diagnosed people, or going on about how we're just trying to be quirky and use it as a get out of jail free card, or talking about how if you don't seek out a formal diagnosis you're going to find out you have some sort of hidden medical condition and die, or trying to turn our existence into another tired debate topic, or trying to police how we talk about ourselves. We get it! You don't like us. Can you shut up about us please. I'm not asking you to believe that I'm autistic, if you don't believe me whatever, just stop talking about it. Like everywhere else people either barely talk about self-diagnosis but for some reason Reddit is obsessed with this topic and I don't get it. I also struggle with the same things you do. I'm not trying to be quirky, I don't use TikTok, I think of myself as disabled, I don't use autism as an excuse (although I will get accused of using it as an excuse when I try asking people to please be more upfront with me), I struggle with my symptoms, the main thing separating the average diagnosed autistic people and me is that I never got an autism diagnosis. But every day I see a post about how people like me are all just liars who are harming real autistic people like them. I'm tired! Leave us alone! Stop obsessing about us!
Are tankies/campists more common on Musk-era X than other social media sites?
Ever since Musk nerfed blocking on X (November 2024, which coincided with the mass exodus from X since that was also around the time that Trump won the election which Musk supported), I rarely go on X, but I've noticed that campism is more popular over there than on the other social media sites. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? I've also noticed that my ex-friend, who uses X regularly even now, started becoming increasingly campist starting about a year and a half ago. I also found out that since the mass exodus my mutual, who had previously just talked about movies, became a Hoxhaist Uyghur genocide denier. Has anyone else noticed this, and is it especially bad on X or do I just not notice it happening on other sites? I wonder if it's connected to the rise of reactionary politics since X took over. I haven't noticed anyone I know becoming fascists from X (not saying it doesn't happen, it certainly does, but I don't hang around people who are very susceptible to this) but I have noticed people becoming tankies from X. I think leftists think that X's influence on political discourse doesn't affect or hasn't affected them since they're firmly leftist, but I do think that X is still making leftists more reactionary, even if it's a leftist flavour of reactionary.
How to reduce vibration for MYSTILUCK SZ-933A without turning it off?
I recently got a MYSTILUCK SZ-933A for my Switch and one thing that's frustrating me is how strong the vibration is. I tested it with Mario Odyssey and it's constant. Even when I turn on weak rumble in the in-game settings it's the same. I want a bit of vibration, but this is a lot, and it's very annoying. Is there a way to tone down the vibration without completely turning it off? The joycons' vibration is a lot more subtle and I much prefer it that way, this controller feels like it's having a seizure or something and it's obnoxious. Tried looking in the manual and it says something about a "3D rocker" and I don't know what that is. Part of the reason I got a new controller is because my previous controller didn't have vibration and I missed it, but I'd rather have no vibration than this.
One of the joycons on my pro controller is splitting. How to fix?
Are there any Picrews with both a pregnant option and a non-pregnant option?
I want to create a pregnant OC in Picrew, but I don't want to use a Picrew specifically for pregnant people because I want a Picrew that I can make all my OCs in so they're in the same style. Do any such Picrews exist?
Which free/cheap non-Google search engine has the highest quality search results?
While I care about privacy and all that, my main priority is to have a search engine with high quality search results, and is preferably free, but I am willing to consider search engines that cost up to $5/month with unlimited searches. I am also uninterested in GPTs, I want a traditional search engine. Which search engine that fits this description has the best results?
Has there been any proposals for more wheelchair-friendly alternatives to tactile paving?
To be clear, I'm neither blind nor do I use a wheelchair, but I've learned that many wheelchair users find tactile paving wheelchair inaccessible. It is, of course, important for blind people to navigate areas, but is there a way to accomplish the same goal of helping blind people independently navigate areas that is more wheelchair-friendly, either by adjusting tactile paving or replacing it with something else?

Hi, I'm looking for Picrews with white canes (as in, canes specifically for blind people). Does anyone know of any? I tried looking this up but unfortunately it seemed that all the links I can find are to Picrews that have since been deleted.
I can't stand for more than about a minute without my legs hurting. Does anyone have any tips to make this more manageable? I'm fine with walking btw, it's standing still where I have trouble.
I did higher-level Irish for the Leaving Cert but didn't continue for university, instead choosing to continue Spanish and French. I am now constantly told the importance of having Irish if you want to find a job, and I don't have any degree. Can I become an Irish-English translator without a degree in the language? Would, say, a CEFR certificate or something be enough?
