Low profile switch alternative to oil kings

I'm searching for some linear low profile switches similar to the oil kings and with cherry style stems so that I'm able to use my current keycaps. Is there something like that on the market? And do this switches fit with normal cherry hot swap sockets?

Restore VM from NAS backup on another node

Hi, i just try to restore a VM on a new node, which was backed up on a NFS pool on my NAS from another node. I added the nas as storage on the new node but i can't see the backups.
Could you please guide me how to do that from a simple NAS backup without Proxmox backup server?

First draft of homelab infra - anything to add?

Just renovating a house and plan to setup a proper homelab for it, most house related stuff runs on home assistant. What do you think of this setup idea? I have a few spare OptiPlex 3060 for it, what do you think, are these capable enough or should i sell them and switch to a more powerful hardware?
I will add a OPNsense router later on, first need to get a bit more familiar with all the networking stuff. The NAS is my main data storage and backup device it should also be backed up to a external cloud storage.
For my main two servers i will use proxmox as base and a debian 13 vm as docker host. Docker compose stacks should be managed through GitHub (probably switch to Gitea or another selfhosted solution in future). I just need to find a way to deploy the compose stacks without manually ssh to the servers. Probably i can solve this with ansible, but need to do more research.
Regarding Proxmox, is there a way to manage the two server in one UI without building a cluster? As i get it right, the problem with a two node cluster is the quorum principle, so i want to avoid that.
VPN will be realised with tailscale, if i've set up the OPNsense router, I might switch to a self-hosted solution.
Any feedback, ideas, other solutions welcome!

Rebuild homelab, like to here your opinion (Kubernetes vs Docker-Compose)

Hi, at the moment i have a simple setup with a 2-bay NAS and a mini PC. The NAS is just for file storage/backups and the PC runs Proxmox with a Home Assistant OS VM and a Debian LXC for docker. Because the mini PCs is coming to its resource limits and me wanting to change the setup to more gitops focused (and because i got a good deal) i bought 3 more Dell Optiplex 3060. Since i wanted to rebuild my homelab anyways, i thought about why not take the chance and build a kubernetes cluster, because i wanted to learn this anyways.

So now i'm sitting here debating about switching back to a simpler docker compose setup. I got the cluster running with k3s and also managed to build a ArgoCD setup for GitOps. But because i don't have an IT background its really challenging for me, and I’m realizing more and more that I’m missing a lot of the basics that i need to understand the concepts. On top of that, the whole thing is taking up an enormous amount of time that I don’t really have right now.

What would you do? Keep at it and learn Kubernetes, or switch back to Docker Compose? I don’t really need the high-availability features of k3s; for me, the GitOps/automation focus was the main reason I decided to try Kubernetes. As I understand it, I could achieve a similar level of automation with Ansible and Docker Compose, right? I definitely feel more comfortable with those and already have some experience with them.

If Docker Compose is back on the table, how would you use the hardware? Maybe split the services across two machines? Still use Proxmox as the base system (more flexible, so I always have the option to create additional VMs and good backup features) or bare-metal Debian + Docker?

I’m looking forward to hearing your opinions and experiences!

Beginner - gitops options / helm charts

Hi all, i'm new to kubernetes and want to transition my homelab from docker compose to k3s for mostly educational purpose. A few weeks back i asked about setting up my cluster here. In the meantime i was able to setup the pcs with debian/k3s and built a working cluster.
Now i'm searching for a good way to gitops my cluster, i researched a bit and came across different options like ArgoCD, Flux or GitHub Actions. What options would you recommend for a beginner?
I also stumble across helm charts, is this a reliable way of getting services running like for example AdGuard Home? I will definetly also try the manual way with manifests to get a sense of what it's like.
Any other recommendations where to move on from here, i'm a bit lost atm.

Thanks ahead!

Need help on decision tv vs projector (new living room build)

I'm currently in the process of renovating a house. For the living room (18m2) i want to decide on a media setup now, so that i know where to run which cables. For a projector e.g. i would like to run the needed cables or at least a conduit under the ceiling. What would you choose for this specific scenario? I thought about a 98" tv, probably the here often recommended TCL 98Q7C, but i'm also interested in a projector if it would make sense. As audio setup i have two wharfdale diamond 220 as front speakers for now. Will probably upgrade that later on.
Normally we are only watching movies or series on the evenings, from time to time the kids will watch some tv on the morning.
Curious what you guys would do/recommend!

Empfehlungen Betonoptik Boden

Taugen Beschichtungen oder ähnliches was?

Recommendation 14", upgradeable, good display

Im searching for a new ThinkPad, for mainly coding and some light CAD. OS will be immutable Fedora. Currently im on a X220 and DIY desktop, the plan is to replace both machines with a new laptop. I would like to have a 14" display with a least 2k resolution, upgradeable RAM and drive, decent battery life, exchange able keyboard and at least 10th gen Intel CPU (i5 is enough) or similar AMD CPU.

Is there something like this available for around 500€ used? What models can you recommended?

Thanks ahead!

Just considering testing opencode, i have no experience with coding agents atm. What cheap or free model would you recommend to start with? I'm no professional programmer just use it for some simple hobby projects. I have a decent desktop pc (AMD Ryzen 5 7500F/Radeon RX 9060 XT) from which i could probably also run a local model, but i don't have any experience with that. So what would you guys recommend?

Bought this today for 150€ in mint condition, is this a decent starter bike? Anyone know which model year this is? Any recommended mods?

u/hema_ — 2 months ago

Hi, i have an MTB background but also did a bit of road cycling. Ever since i started biking I'm interested in fixed gear. Since a few weeks I think about building a bike. I live in a very hilly area, it's possible to cycle to a more flat area but when heading home I need to go up a few steep hills. Is it possible for a newbie which is not really fit atm, didn't had much time to do sport in the last year, to cycle fixed in a hilly area? Any tips and tricks for cycling up hills? What gear ratio would you recommend?

Hi,
i wanted to learn Kubernetes for a while now, i dont have a professional background in IT i just do this as a hobby/for fun. Now i got 4 thin clients for cheap and want to start with them building up a cluster.
At the moment i have a Proxmox machine with some services running via docker compose. My plan is to build the new k3s cluster in parallel to my current setup and once im confident with it migrate my services from docker compose.
Now to my questions, what kind of cluster architecture does make sense with my 4 machines (i5-8500t, 8GB RAM, 256GB m.2)? Would prefer a HA setup. Can i change the type of a machine later on, e.g. switching from a control plane to a worker note or vice versa.
And the other question is, how to best migrate my current docker compose stack to k3s? I found kompose.io is that the recommended way to do it?

Thanks ahead for your answer!
