This 10 year old 190 took a crash course onto the floor: Here it is repaired

I purchased this Fw 190A-5 in 1/48 from Hasegawa 10 years ago in Miami. Some months ago I placed it (poorly) on a shelf, and today my sweater's sleeve got caught onto its wing. The result? I a very hard landing that destroyed the main gear, one prop blade, separated a stabilizer, and sent the inner gear doors flying close to the model, together with a wheel.

Deciding I didn't want to trash my third model after returning to the hobby, I grabbed some CA, a metal clip, my handrill and some liquid glue, and set off on its reconstruction. Some hours of drying and here it is, the repaired (sort of) model.

Moral of the story: Be careful when stretching guys..

William Kepner's P-47D (Tamiya 1/72)

After a bit of a struggle with the B-24J from Minicraft, I turned my attention to the classic downscale of the 1/48 P-47D "Bubbletop" from Tamiya.

No fit issues, no decal issues, or anything, the only difficult thing was painting the D-Day stripes on the fuselage.

Consolidated B-24J "The Dragon and His Tail." Minicraft + Xtradecals

Consolidated B-24J "The Dragon and His Tail," Minicraft + Xtradecals X72082

Just finished taking the final reveal pics of my latest model, and second US bomber. The Dragon and His Tail is a very snazzy scheme, and wanted to do it ever since I got one of Altaya's 1/144 B-24J with this scheme.

Fit was regular, and I know I could have fixed the gaps with putty or CA, but I'm too lazy, and the parts fitted. I liked how the wings came with thick wingspars that align themselves properly once fitted.

Imo, the nose gear is very fragile, and it could collapse due to the lack of a strong connection to other parts of the fuselage. Thus, I didn't add weight, and relied on the tailskid and a spare sprue to hold the tail.

Decals were difficult to apply, not because they were bad, but because I ruined two of the big ones, the noseart and a dragon tail. I'll always be thankful to my hindsight, because I purchased two sheets knowing I'd maybe ruin something.

Maybe I should have chosen an easier scheme to do: B-24J "The Dragon and His Tail" (Minicraft+Xtradecals 1/72)

I just finished decalling this kit, and boy it was difficult! I'm glad I also purchased two sets of Xtradecals X72082, because I had to use some from the second set. Decalling started poorly because I damaged the first and biggest artwork decal. I first thought I had it ok, but then I found out I had lost the head of the girl, so out came the tape and started anew. Also, I didn't realise the mane of the Dragon went into the clear parts, so I had to add them in a hurry, which was successful (I think). Last came the Stars and Bars, which were the most relaxing part of the scheme.

Now to let them cure before varnishing and adding the props and remaining parts.

No Bullets Fly: Charles Brown's B-17F "Ye Olde Pub" and Franz Stigler's Bf 109G-6 "Yellow 2"

Finished building the B-17F earlier today, and took pics some minutes ago. The B-17F is from Revell, and the Bf 109G-6 is from Tamiya, both in 1/72. Decals are aftermarket ones from Kits World Decals.

Franz Stigler's Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 "Yellow 2" (Tamiya+Kits World Decals in 1/72)

Next is Brown's B-17F "Ye Olde Pub" in the same scale and from Revell.

Dusted off Yoshika's Shinden and took new pics of it (Hasegawa 1/48, painted markings)

If you take a closer look, you'll see the Fusoan roundels aren't very round, it was my first time masking and painting circles. The red half moon was painted first light grey and then red over it.

The light blue propeller imitates the colour magic props have when the strikers are active.

There're multiple sources for the colour scheme, from the anime to the figures, I went for the anime version to keep it as accurate as possible.

Focke Wulf Ta 154A-0 "TQ+XE" (Revell/Dragon 1/48)

I was checking my camera roll and realised my first Ta 154 was not there, so I grabbed a soft brush, dusted the model off, and took some fresh pics.

The kit is the Revell boxing of the Dragon Ta 154A in 1/48. Fit was fair if I remember correctly, with the wings suffering from some downwards warping. The biggest challenge was to place enough weight for the model to sit on its nose.

Amazingly, though being from 1999, the decals worked perefectly, not tearings or any other vices.
