Frustrating experiences when making up your first gig/performance band ?

Forming my first gig band. I totally have no clue how to get performance opportunities for my newly formed band. We would like to do covers for a start.

As for the members, not sure if we are getting the right people. Keyboardist say currently vox can't sing and she has in mind another who has gig experience. Next guitarist last minute informed us he can't join us when we agreed to scout for an open mic venue.

Suddenly I feel the chaos here. Not sure am I just over anxious.

Anyone has any frustrating experience managing your own new band ?

Do I really need a 'full time' keyboardist if some songs require abit of keys and do I need a male vocal if male vocal only appear in some songs on my band list ?

I don't want to restrict my choice of songs just to accommodate keys or gender vox eg. Choose songs that have keys or choose songs only for male or female

Fastest way to adjust my bass tunings

So my songlist has a few songs in alternate tunings, my guitarist has a drop pedal so he easily can tune from standard to drop D or drop Db tunings with just a click. For me a bassist, I have my stage tuner and often need to tune manually for songs with alternate tunings. What is the fastest way for me to tune ALL strings on the bass then.

I don't intend to buy a 5 string bass yet.

So I am new to jazz but have to play 8 jazz standards

What is the first step to do. I search for bass covers in YouTube and tried to memorize the basslines. Considering I am short of time to analyze how to play walking bass etc, is my above method is it effective ? I have to complete learning the basslines for each song before the jam date. No time for 'bits and pieces' of tutorials.

Bassist with full time day job, how to memorize 7 basslines for a gig in 3 days

So I have a full time day job and only got like 2 hrs each evening to spare for practising bass. I have a gig in 3 days time. Have to memorize basslines for 7 songs. How to do it efficiently ? Draw a chart makes me spend extra time that I can't afford to lose. Need solid playing in place before the gig. Any other ideas other than do up a chart. I can spend more than 1 hour just draw a chart for a song. I am wasting more time in this way.

My basslines playing is so boring

I learn from YouTube and play like YouTube covers. I recently realise my senior bassist can whack interesting basslines on the fly. When comes to me, song that has a consistent basslines just turn out boring. Not sure how to make my basslines sound interesting.

Most ppl who jam would prefer my senior bassist to play with them.

What are the things that a bassist should not complain about otherwise it makes you a bad bassist ?

I realise that I have been complaining about vocalists crashing jam sessions and requesting to sing their own choice of songs ranging from kpop to laufey. Songs I have never practiced or heard of. One senior told me this is a norm in a gig and have to get trained to face such common situations. What else should a good bassist not complain about ?

How to remember walking bass lines in jazz

Do you remember by brute memorization ? Do you always ask why there are some notes used ? If you are running out of time and need to do 10 jazz standards in a week's time, you don't have much time to ask all the whys. What will you do ?

I played along with some random songs but other than struggling to find the root notes what else should I be doing

Ok so some redditors replied to my thread of how to practise playing unfamiliar songs and one of the replies was about playing with unfamiliar songs.

I tried it yesterday and it was horrible as I was struggling to find the root notes and after I found the root notes, what is next. What should I do ?

No time to figure out what scale or what chord as the song keeps playing and I am lost.

Referring to a live jam session. I can't be asking everyone pause while i figure out the chords right ?
