My discipline was very bad so I'm trying to do something about it. This is the sticky note that I made today and will pin on my screen henceforth, critique/roast it:

General:

  • Done for the day: 2 losses (at initial structural stop) OR any TP hit.
  • Shutdown, every day: log, journal, screenshot trade details, close charts + broker platform.
  • No setup triggered = 0 trades = disciplined win.
  • Law of detachment.

Before the trade:

  • Never FOMO chase, never greed the entry. Prices come to you.
  • Confidence <7 = no trade at any size. Valid 7+ but anxious = size down, entry unchanged.
  • Fib anchors on zones, both ends. Zone beats wick.
  • SL = 0.786 (fib) or ATR (non-fib); at structure, invalidates thesis, preset. No structure at 0.786 = no trade.
  • RR ratio: 1:1 to 1:2.
  • Any broker platform placement or modification: uncheck + recheck SL & TP, read back the numbers.
  • At placement: journal confidence C (C8-10 = LOOSE, C7 = TIGHT); screenshot + set alerts +1R (also +1.5R if TIGHT), log trade with tags at fill alert

During the trade:

  • No charts after fill; never the 1-min or seconds timeframe. Alerts are the only callback.
  • Alert fires = scripted action only, then close chart. No re-analysis, no new levels.
  • No new invalidation reason mid-trade. Anti-thesis was defined before entry.
  • Gaining? Do nothing. Losing? Do nothing. The plan below is the only exception.

MANAGEMENT PLAN (fixed at placement, never changed after fill):

  • < +1R: original stop, untouched.
  • +1R alert: SL → entry +1–2 ticks.
  • LOOSE (C8+): nothing further. Bracket decides.
  • TIGHT (C7): +1.5R alert → SL to last completed 5-min pivot. Bracket decides.

Futures Traders who are consistently profitable, how did you improve? Plz share your story, especially if you are also an index futures trader

I will be reading every comment. I really want to know what you have done to improve.

  • Did you trade less but only take higher quality trades?
  • Do you only trade 1 or 2 setups and never change your strategy?
  • Did you journal and self-reflect more?
  • Do you intentionally skip certain days?
  • Did you change the way you manage your position?
  • Do you use a prop firm?

Whatever you did, I want to hear your story.

I might be the 10th dentist but I love it when a backtest idea fails very hard because then I can inverse it

If a backtest idea fails and has high trade count, this is not bad because it means there is some change I can do to inverse it. I just had a backtest show -24k and after inverting it, backtest now shows +9k.
