Two embarrassing questions for someone just getting into the hobby
I was originally going to ask this in the other sub, but all of the rules and passive aggressive messages that kept popping up while typing up my post annoyed me and led me to here. It seems like the people here are more welcoming!! Anyways,
I used to collect kpop photocards, but that phase has pretty much fizzled out of my life. One aspect of it that I thought was really helpful though was being able to find templates for a group/idol that included pictures of the card and where they came from, serving as a visual checklist essentially. I've recently started getting into football cards after realizing how much I fucking love the sport. I bought my first Topps box yesterday, and the excitement I felt from getting a simple base card from my team makes me want to collect every card from my favorite players (that are reasonably easy to get my hands on, I don't have much interest in collecting autos, patches, numbered, etc unless I can find them for a good price or I win the lottery). However, the amount of cards per player and the variants are kind of confusing and overwhelming. I looked up the checklist just to see it listed the player and card with no picture of said card. As the set is out for longer, will there eventually be a checklist out there that has photo references of the cards? It's no big deal if not, I can use my brain and keep track, but it would make things a bit easier.
Are the inexpensive, not super sought after cards faked very often? It's kind of a big problem in the photocard collecting community, but it's pretty easy to tell if it's fake or not once you physically have it in your hands. I'm sure the expensive chases in the sets are faked all the time, but what about the base cards and midtier $20-$40 cards? Is there a way to tell once you receive them, or is it really not something to worry about in general?
