San Ysidro SENTRI

My wife and I (both US Citizens) acquired Global Entry.

We are going to Mexico in October for a 5 day trip to Rosarito. We will be returning to San Diego on Monday morning to fly home. We will be crossing the border on foot.

Using the pedestrian SENTRI lane, will we save time crossing? We need to make an 11 am flight at SAN.

Approval times

I just got conditional approval today for myself. I applied on 4/16/26 with a disclosed DUI.

My wife will now apply today. She has no record whatsoever.

What are the turnaround times lately on a squeaky clean applicant-USC?

Carry-on Compliant

Hello. I’m looking at purchasing new carry-on luggage. I have seen news reports about airlines actually using sizers at the gate to check luggage sizes.

I have looked at many bags that state the airline approved, etc.

Which ones will actually fit into the sizer and pass? Looking for use on US domestic flights

San Ysidro crossing

Hi all. US citizens heading to Rosarito in October for a long weekend. We are flying into San Diego airport. Will be using the San Diego trolley to get to the border to cross over on foot. We will then Uber to Rosarito.

We fly out of San Diego on a Monday to return home. The flight is at 11AM.

We would be going from Rosarito back to San Diego using the same transportation as we did to go to Mexico.

What time should we realistically arrive at San Ysidro to cross back into the United States? I know going back gets really busy. We have passport cards. Does that help with READY lanes or anything?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Fingerprint submission

I am a US citizen. I submitted an application on 4/16/26. I had a DUI in 1994, which I did disclose on my application. I know that approval will take a long time. Let me ask you I submitted my fingerprints via the app. Will this help any in shortening the timeline?

Converting Marriott points to AA miles

Hi all. I have almost 55000 miles on my Citi AA card. I have 92000 points on my Chase Marriott card.

I believe 3 Marriott points convert to 1 AA mile.

I have several trips planned post August including one that will be PIT to SAN for me and my spouse.

Opinions?

Are the points more valuable to convert to miles and use for a flight or use them for a hotel stay?

Citizenship by descent

Hello there. I am an American citizen that has just traced my genealogy on my mother’s side back to the Austrian Hungarian empire.

My great grandmother was born in Oberdrosen, Austria in the year 1888. Back, then the town was considered to be part of the kingdom of Hungary.

In 1905 she immigrated to the United States and married a few years later.(my grandfather was from Austria, but from what town I am not sure.)She gave birth to my grandmother and great aunts between 1912 and 1918 I believe.

About 1934 my great grandfather passed away. In 1936 my great grandmother petition for naturalization as a US citizen. In 1939 she was naturalized. She passed away in 1974.

Based upon the facts presented, would I be eligible for Hungarian citizenship by descent?

I have a copy of her baptismal record from the Roman Catholic Church in St. Martin an der Raab
In which the registry is in both Latin and Hungarian

Thank you for your help

Newbie

Hola! I am 58 year old American that’s wants to learn Spanish for travel.

I have started using the Duolingo app. I practice 100 common words every day with ChatGPT. I also attend a biweekly 1 hour Spanish class at a local church. Today I attended church service (Catholic Mass) in Spanish.

My language learning background includes 3 years of high school French and 2 courses in college of ecclesiastical Latin. But this was over 40 years ago.

I am looking for some sort of book maybe to help.

Thanks and Gracias

Citizenship through descent

Hello. I was looking at German citizenship through descent and wanted to throw out my situation.

My father’s one set of grandparents were born in Germany around 1840. They immigrated to the United States around 1860. I know there are different categories and I am not familiar with them. Thanks for the input.

Eligibility for dual citizenship

I’m an American looking at the possibility of dual citizenship through ancestry.

On my father’s side we have Irish and German. The Irish part of the family took about a 40 year layover in England before coming to the USA. My father’s father was born in England. My father’s grandfather/grandmother from his mother was born in Germany.

On my mother side is where it gets interesting. She was born out of wedlock, so I am not sure who her actual father was. I plan on pulling her birth certificate when I get a chance. Her mother‘s parents were born in Austria.

I know I am too many generations away from Irish citizenship, which would’ve been the one that I would’ve wanted the most.

What are my options?

PA Birth Certificate

My mother was born out of wedlock in 1931 in Pennsylvania. What are the chances that her biological father is listed on the birth certificate?
