How does your team handle design reviews?
I work as an in-house designer for a medium to small sized tech company and we’ve recently gone through a slight reorg where another layer of management has been added. Previously it was very flat with 4 Industrial Designers of various experience levels reporting to our head of ID but now the two most junior designers each report to one of the two more senior designers who then report to our head of ID (who also has a few more direct reports now).
There’s really only a single industrial designer per project and the only design feedback I get is 1:1 with our head of ID but with the reorg it seems like we’ll be getting less direct feedback from him. We’ve never really done group design reviews and our biweekly team meeting is more about project status updates and announcements for our head of ID than for specific design critiques.
The only other corporate experience I have was for only a few months 10+ years ago at a very large tech company and I know the VP of design held weekly or biweekly design reviews which I never got to attend. I’m curious if this is something that is common or if you’ve found it helpful for your team. I’ve always been a fan of getting as many eyes on a design as possible and our ME department does this with every product and very detailed and extensive ME architecture reviews.
