Isn't this show basically this image but the inverse of it?
Every single man with a "non-hot" design gets eliminated super early and gets almost no focus.
To put an example the FVF merge. There's Tom, Sam and Spencer. Fanservice cash cows with pretty similar body types. And then there's Benji the goofy silly looking one that is mostly comic relief. Obviously he's not referred to as "The ugly one" though. I shall also mention there's a British Man, an American man and two Asian men specifically Thai and Japanese.
And then all the women have these wildly different designs representing many different body types and a lot more nationalities. Obviously there's more female characters so I kinda get that men get less rep that way unintentionally. But I don't think it should be that way.
And to those who tell me "Well but there are men with bigger body sizes and from many other nationalities" Yeah premerge boots who last 2 or 3 episodes. You're not supposed to care about Manu or Ernesto in the slightest they're meant to be forgotten cause they don't care about them.
The fact that the only men who make it far are the hot gay ones just feels so icky and objectifying. They don't care about the story they care about selling this cheap gay fanservice to the patreons.
And I'm the first one that fucking loves gay fanservice but even to me this shit feels like really corny pandering and I cringe so hard at it. It's just not delivered well and the circumstances surrounding it make it feel worse.
This show has regressed in so many ways. In season 1 yeah they had a big focus on Tom and Jake but Alec despite receiving no fanservice and being straight actually got a fleshed out character and personality and even left being a really well-liked character. The only other straight male character to reach merge without being eliminated Zaid who got basically no arc or focus and mostly left well-liked because he got a bullshit elimination and everyone else being that much worse. I'm not saying that straight male characters need more rep desperately but I also think going out of your way to add straight male characters and then make them invisible or leave very early every single time makes adding them redundant since at that point everyone will just know they're gonna be fodder. I for one guessed that Manu was gonna be eliminated as the 3rd boot when I looked at his design for the first time. Already went through that with Ted so I knew it was coming again.
On the topic of Zaid he's the only black man other than season 2 James not to be a first boot, Again not a very good look either.
Anyone else agree or disagree? I'd like to see other points of views.
