Need help quickly planning a vacation in Albufeira/Faro

I got volunteered as the tour guide/planner for a family vacation in Portugal. 10 people total, ages 18–70.

I’ve been planning things, but I just found out the address I was given was wrong. We’re actually staying in Vale Faro, Albufeira, in the Algarve region, which changes my plans and leaves me with a lot less time to figure things out.

Looking for suggestions! We won’t have a car, so we’ll be relying on walking, Uber, buses/trains, etc.

What are your recommendations around Albufeira/Vale Faro?

Looking for day trips where we can leave in the morning, do something, and reasonably get back by evening.

Looking for things to do when you want to stay in the area and chill.

Also looking for:
places to eat

beaches/viewpoints/markets/towns worth visiting

things that are actually worth the time, and the tourist spots (it’s everyone’s first time)

any tips for getting around without a car

[discussion] Looking for good Minecraft YouTube channels for an 8-year-old

I'm looking for some Minecraft YouTube channel recommendations for an 8-year-old.

They're pretty new to playing Minecraft (on Switch, if that matters). They love Minecraft content (building, challenges, etc.), but I'm hoping to find channels that are actually good quality... not just loud/overstimulating "screaming for views" content.

Looking for creators who are age-appropriate, creative/fun, positive, and ideally teach some Minecraft skills or encourage creativity. Don't need to be Switch-based.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

What to do in Faro besides the beach?

I am coming to Faro in August with a group of 10 people, ages 20 to 70.

I am planning the activities for the group, but most things I find online are about beaches and beach days. We will do some beach days, but I am also looking for other ideas.

Can anyone recommend good non-beach activities in Faro or nearby areas?

Food, markets, history, boat tours, nature, beer/wine, small towns, or day trips.

Advice: free barbecue available, but serious rust. Use it, or dump it?

I have no grill at the moment. A friend offered old one they have, but look at the interior. It has four burners, and the one pictured is the worst of them. The other burners still light.

What do you think? Use it? Or am I being dumb/unsafe?

No snark or joke answers, please.

Best game for bedtime?

Got a new iPad after sticking with an older one for years and I’m looking for some night-time games.

I’m not into roguelikes or strategy games, and I don’t have Apple Arcade, so no Stardew Valley.

Good atmosphere, good gameplay, nothing too grindy or overly complex. Open to anything else that fits that vibe.

Kid (8) loves watching creative DIY projects on YouTube. The majority of YouTubers are awful. Suggestions?

My 8-year-old is really into DIY projects and making things, but I’m finding that a lot of the content they stumble across on YouTube is either poorly made, overly chaotic, or just not very helpful for that age group.

I’m not at all a DIY guy, but even I recognize when some of these YouTubers are doing something wasteful, ignorant, or dangerous. And it’s all targeted at kids.

I’m looking for suggestions for channels or creators that actually do a good job of showing hands-on projects in a clear, engaging way. Ideally something that encourages creativity and builds skills step by step, with safe, age-appropriate content that still feels fun and inspiring.

Note: They’re really into crazy, over-the-top builds, rather than home maintenance or tutorials.

I watched Scream 7 last night (a phrase that would thrill 1996 me), and something that struck me was how teens are portrayed.

In the 1990s, teenagers were usually shown as clearly “kid-like,” with their independence limited to school, parties, and occasional rebellion. Teens’ lives were severely limited: you’d be lucky to have a car. School was basically your life. It felt more grounded.

In more recent stuff, teens are often framed as basically adults: comfortable in adult spaces, performing confidence, and acting socially indistinguishable from older people. School is a distant consideration to relationships, work, and (usually) having some type of fame.

Know what I mean?

Edit: I’m not making a claim about real teenagers or how old actors are. I’m thinking about the shift in how teen characters are written and portrayed on screen.

Older media tends to show teens as limited to school, parents, and small freedoms like parties or borrowing a car. Newer ones tend to portray them as moving through adult spaces—clubs, apartments, careers—as if they’re already adults.

Last night, I watched Scream VII*.* It felt pretty silly, but I think it actually worked for me.

The parasocial motive felt timely: people forming obsessive, one-sided relationships with public figures. It felt like a good extension of what the series has already done, from Scream 1 with “media panic” to Scream 5 with “toxic fandom”.

Sidenote: I don’t know how Scream 6 fits the meta, because it had killers motivated by revenge (a franchise staple), but there’s always a secondary, meta motive, and that part got convoluted in the legacy sequel stuff and the obsession with the lore. For me, it didn’t feel like it was “saying” something. What was the message?

Scream has to stay with the times but also stay rooted in the 1990s. In Scream 7, the whole franchise is treated like a Marvel-style nostalgia machine, and openly pointing out how constructed and inconsistent that kind of legacy storytelling can be.
