ITR 2 Newbie - Shooting Range

Hi! I've just accepted my first mission (after the being blown to bits one). Is there a shooting range or something? I can't seem to hit much.

Confusingly enough, in the tutorial/training, I would aim at a target and it would seem to me like I was dead on. I'd fire, and the target would stay upright. Then I'd fire again *without having moded my hands or gun any* and the target would drop. It was baffling.

I know nothing about real-world guns, and the only VR shooter I've played is ITR 1, where I got by, not horribly well, generally by being close to the enemy when I fired. I've also played games like Stalker 2, High on Life, and Atomic Heart modded for VR and I seem to do well enough with them, but I realize they're not the same thing as a native VR shooter.

Does anyone else find themselves not listening to music anymore?

Edit: Thank you all for the replies - it's been an interesting conversation! General consensus of those who posted is that music is not only important, but essential to most older folks. I don't feel any anxiety or sadness during this long period of not listening to music, and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. It just seemed like an odd thing that happened to me, and I was wondering if it was related to aging, which it does not seem to be.

Because of my mental illness, I'm very aware of when I'm depressed, and my Wellbutrin and lithium are doing a good job these days and have been for a very long time. So I don't think it's that. Someone mentioned hormones, and I suppose that's possible. Not sure how all of that works.

Anyway, thanks again!

Music has always been important to me. As a teen I listened to a lot of American and British heavy metal. I was (very briefly) into grunge. I got into Lilith Fair type stuff after that, artists like Sarah MacLachlan and Toro Amos were my favorites for a very long time. In my 30s and 40s I listened to a lot of Evanescence and European symphonic metal like Nightwish and Within Temptation. Lots of highly emotional stuff. I rediscovered videogame soundtracks. And then I listened to some classical music, darkwave, and "newgrass" which is a branch of bluegrass.

For a while early this year, I guess my brain just picked an album and I listened to just a few songs from that album on repeat for a couple of months.

Then I stopped using Spotify all together. For the last four months I haven't been listening to any music whatsoever. Even in videogames, where it never occurred to me to touch the music setting, I turn the music off when I can and actually enjoy the games more without it. My wife is a local musician and I go out a couple of nights a month to hear her sing and play at open mic nights. Otherwise, no music for me.

I sometimes hear bits of old songs in my head, or something playing overhead in the grocery store will remind me that there is music. I wish that stores wouldn't play music, but not much I can do about it.

51, male. Recently realized that I'm autistic. I'm also bipolar, but I'm very well medicated and have been for years.

QuestLog Pro

Heya. So I'm playing games like modded Silent Hill 2 Remake and Firmament. They, and many other games I'm looking forward to, would benefit greatly from my being able to enter and call up notes. There are a fair number of puzzles.

Right now I've been lifting my headset up and putting notes with a pen in a paper notebook near my keyboard. Which is fine sometimes but not optimal.

I picked up QuestLog Pro on Steam but it doesn't seem to do anything after I load it and a game up

I downloaded OpenKneeboard but it seems like I might need a graphics tablet? And it's mostly for DCS? Which I don't play.

Has anyone researched this? What do you use?

7th Guest VR/Remake

Good morning. I have The 7th Guest VR installed. The 7th Guest Remake (flat screen) released yesterday and I got it at no charge because I have the VR game.

Edit: I did not get it at no charge. I had heard from multiple sources that it would be, maybe that deal is only for new buyers?

I'm at the point where I'm ready to play it and I'm wondering what the best experience would be.

  1. The native VR version.
  2. The remake, which probably has better graphics. Maybe better for modern players? I also believe it's a UE5 game, so it might be possible to use UEVR, but I understand that I would still be interacting with puzzles using kb/mouse or my PS5 controller.

Finally Jumped Into ITR2

It's been a while since I've played ITR1. I can see this is going to be a "how many pockets do I have and why are all of them wrong?" simulator. I, a perhaps less-than-competent field operator, am going to have to go through a physical comedy phase where something eldritch is sprinting at me and I'm pulling out a toothbrush and a can of beans instead of the appropriate clip. I'll definitely need to keep everything in a designated spot. The rig seems to do a pretty good job of differentiating.

I also love the "Welcome to your new role, we are definitely a legitimate organization, please ignore the cosmic death fog and fill out these forms correctly," feel of the UNPSC. I work at a financial company. It's like if my HR discovered anomalies but still cared deeply about onboarding compliance.

Flatout 4VR - Little Discomfort

I love Flatout 4 VR. I don't particularly like things like unlocking tracks in career mode and I'm not really a social gamer, so I found a save with all tracks unlocked so now I can race anytime, anywhere.

I have no motion sickness from MSFS 2024, Elite Dangerous, Assetto Corsa EVO and Assetto Corsa Rally (modded). I have a roller coaster game that's no problem.

But my room got up to around 78 degrees F this evening and being in the game is like being a raccoon 🦝 duct taped to a jet engine bouncing around in a giant pinball machine. I didn't get fully sick, as such, but my body said enough is enough.

Flatout 4 VR first impressions

I had just gotten through playing a little bit of Assetto Corsa EVO, and Assetto Corsa Rally (with UEVR), so the vibe of Flatout was totally different. 😁

I like it. It's pretty in its own way. Immersive. Good sound. Lots of style. Works fine with my old G923. I wish that it supported bHaptics vests and sleeves a little better. Right now, there's an audio-to-haptics profile, but I really dislike audio-to-haptics. First thing I did was turn the music off because I wanted to hear my car hitting all sorts of stuff.

I also wish that all of the tracks were available to just practice on without earning them. I'm not even sure if all of them are available in Early Access. It's just that sometimes I don't want to race, as such, just memorize the tracks.

Anyway, seems well worth the $20-ish I paid for it. Happy that stuff like this is being released.

Red Matter 2 Action Sequences

You know part of the reason why I hate dying four times in a row to defense turrets in Red Matter 2? Because the whole game stops and the UI comes up and gives me a "Retry?" (or whatever it says) prompt after I die. It makes it very clear it's a game.

That being said I have no idea what they could do differently.

Don't get me wrong, I love games, but in Red Matter 2 I love feeling like I'm really inhabiting this retrofuturistic Soviet-themed world and game over try again throws a wrench in that.

I think I'm running a gauntlet of three turrets. I got past the first two after a little trial and error but the third turret keeps painting me and it doesn't save when you get by the first or second turret and then it sends me back to the beginning. I think I'm going to look it up on YouTube. The puzzles so far have been fun and a bit challenging but nothing harsh. I can play action/stealth games but nothing about my experience with RM1 or RM2 so far was like this.

Where we are and what we can look forward to

I'm happy that consumer electronics technology has advanced to where we are now, and I'm excited to see where it goes in the future.

My first game was Pac-Man in 1980. I've loved games ever since. And we started with basic shapes as stand-ins for characters, and uncomplicated sounds.

I have a good PC with a 5090 and a Quest 3. Today I was running a game called Lushfoil Photography Sim, modded with UEVR. There's a native VR mode to the game, but it's a bit stripped down, so I use the mod instead.

I'm comfortable with adjusting game graphics options, and I'm comfortable working with the UEVR mod. It took a bit, but I have it dialed in just where I want it now.

And I get to load this up at any time and just exist in environments - walking in some grasslands in the south of France or some woods in Japan. When I got the game, I took a lot of pictures and opened up areas. Now I just walk and feel peaceful. I turned the music off because, while beautiful, it can get repetitive.

So now if my day is too stressful, I can just go... somewhere else. Without having to plan a trip out. Not that I don't like to go walking in real places too, but the VR stuff is really nice.

It just amazes me that we've gone from a 3/4 yellow circle and some lines on a screen that indicated a maze, to what seems like a real place to relax in - trees, grass, butterflies, wind blowing things around, old houses, sun rays, water, rocks, mountains in the distance.

And tomorrow I could be on a real-looking Green Hell track in Assetto Corsa EVO or in the Woods in Assetto Corsa Rally, or flying over Tokyo in a science helicopter in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Or taking in the sights in Walkabout Mini Golf, immersed in the spectacle of Lumines Arise. On a doomed space station in Lone Echo. Bringing the civilization in modded Death Stranding 2, reconnecting with my consciousness in Realms of Flow, creeping through an abandoned factory at night with shotgun and flashlight in Into the Radius, and coming to terms with fear in The Midnight Walk and MADiSON VR.

Hopefully, I'll live a while longer to see more of this stuff and how it advances.

Teleport Blues

Steam version. I experienced this with three courses.

After the update, teleport is placing me in front of the ball and a bit farther away from it, when I want to be basically alongside the ball and within a good putting distance.

I'm using an AMVR putter attachment, but from what I remember, that didn't cause any teleport issues before this.

For now, I'm just teleporting somewhere near the ball and manually walking to where I want to be.

Good morning!

Just wanted to give a shout-out to Cubism, which is on sale for a few bucks on Steam today. I'm a big fan of Puzzling Places, and this game taps into the same lines of thinking.

Cubism is a lot more stripped-down than Puzzling, visually, but it's been a very Zen experience for me so far. This morning, it was a nice change-up from Assetto Corsa Rally with UEVR.

Public service announcement - now that it's spring and summer in a lot of the gaming world...

I was playing Wilson's Heart yesterday and was reaching above my head to open a cabinet. I felt some resistance and a sharp sudden pain because in Virtual Land, it was a cabinet I was reaching for, but in Real Land, it was our ceiling fan. 😟

I've been on a kind of whirlwind tour of the short period in history where Meta was releasing quality PCVR games. Several won't work with my setup. I don't know if it's just my system or if the games have problems with modern hardware. But there are 8 or 9 that do work.

I've played Asgard's Wrath 1. Recently finished Lone Echo, which was phenomenal. I'm playing through Stormland and Wilson's Heart now - both are very cool.

Wilson's Heart is especially stylish and really well made. I can't help thinking that it would have been even cooler if it had been designed so that you were exploring around using free movement and smooth turning. I know it would be a different game then, but it's always nice to dream.

Heya,

I just started playing today. I was avoiding it until the full release and until the one guy got the haptics vest/sleeves mod worked out.

Er... I have my chest rig. I have left and right sidearm holsters. I have a flashlight and probes equipped at my chest. There's a pouch- or other carrying-looking thing right next to either sidearm holster.

I can't seem to put hyposprays or anything in these carrying things. I remember being able to do that in the first game. I bring the item to the slot and... no indication that it's going to pop in, and if I let go, it just falls to the ground.

I must be missing something silly.

I'm trying to bring some order to my Quest gaming. I have around 350 games installed, and around 150 of those are either native VR or can be modded for VR.

I think I'm deciding to tackle the old Meta PCVR games before I move on to other stuff. It was an interesting time in VR development, and I want to get a sense for "what could have been," if things had turned out differently. After that, I'll move on to native Steam VR, then modded VR, and then flatscreen. This will likely take me 17 years. I may not even be on this mortal coil by then.

I've recently finished Lone Echo, which was amazing. I'm currently playing Stormland.

I want to know if I'm missing anything else.

Things I know about:

  1. Asgard's Wrath - Beautiful game. I think I got about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way through before I realized it wasn't for me. I wanted more exploring and fewer puzzles every five steps, and I really disliked ordering followers around. The fight where you're in your god form and trying to avoid (Arrows? I don't remember) just turned me off entirely.

  2. Lone Echo - Just perfect. There was maybe one too many flying through corridors filled with biohazards, but I'd definitely replay it.

  3. Lone Echo 2 - I own it, but I don't think I'm quite ready for it.

  4. Stormland - Currently having fun with this.

  5. From Other Suns - Gunfire Games developed this. I really wanted to play it, but I could not for the life of me get it to work. Constant crashes during the tutorial. Using a Ryzen 9 9900X, RTX 5090, Quest 3, and Virtual Desktop. Had to refund it.

  6. Chronos - Another Gunfire Games game. I selected my character, and then the game would just hang there. Refunded.

  7. Robo Recall - Purchased. On my list to play.

  8. Ocean Rift - I load this up once in a great while.

  9. Defector - Purchased. On my list to play.

  10. Edge of Nowhere - Purchased. On my list to play.

  11. Lies Beneath - On my to-buy list.

  12. Arktika.1 - On my to-buy list.

  13. Wilson's Heart - On my to-buy list.
