How I get through the TWW

I suffer from pretty extreme anxiety and OCD, so of course my brain went totally off the rails when we started TTC. I realized pretty immediately that it wasn't sustainable or helpful for my physical and mental health, especially if this process takes us longer than we want. So I built a plan of sorts for when I'm in the TWW. Posting incase it helps anyone. I've gotten SO much better since my first cycle, where I was symptom spotting, obsessively googling, certain I was pregnant, then sobbing and miserable when AF arrived. I realized it cannot be like this every cycle so I decided to make a change. Here is what I do:

-Plan fun things during the TWW. This is key for me, because in my luteal phase my OCD flairs up and wants to sit home all the time online and googling things that do not help. This cycle I planned fun things constantly- with DH, friends, family, and even myself. It got me out of the house, kept me distracted, and left little time for obsessing. I went to the movies, the beach, did pottery painting, an outdoor movie and just sat with friends talking about other things. It also elevated my mood which can only help my physical health. If I really don't want see people, I do feel good things with myself like watch a good movie, read a book, do an exercise class, take a lukewarm bath, go on a walk, listen to an audiobook, etc.

-Really stop obsessing on what each symptom means. This one is hard because its like... but my body is doing this thing, what does it mean? But there is literally no way to know if I'm pregnant unless I take a test. Absolutely. No. Way. And PMS symptoms can be identical to early pregnancy symptoms. So I try everything I possibly can not to ask the internet what it means if I have a weird side cramp. It's really hard but what's helped is to practice mindfulness and check in with myself before I ask AI or Reddit or whatever. Sometimes I fail, and still ask, but sometimes I do something else- grab an Apple, text a friend, go for a walk. Symptom spotting left me obsessed for no reason.

-Confide in a few people close to me. I really don't want to blab to everyone that I'm struggling with this process, but I also know that in difficult times, my friends have really helped me. So I've told a few friends what's going on, and I know they're there for me if I need. I tell them when I get my period, they offer support and hugs, and we move on. I find that the best friends for this situation are the childless ones or the ones who also have had fertility struggles, so I don't feel jealous or something. A friend even asked me how he can support me and if he should ask about it or not, and I shared with him what would best help.

-Have a really good therapist. I've been in therapy for 8 years, having just switched to a focused OCD therapist, but I can't imagine going through this without a professional whose trained to know how to deal with my emotions. I began having period cramps during my last session, and we processed that together and I felt really held.

-Telling DH how to support me. My husband is amazing, but of course, this is new territory for him, too. He literally asked AI how best to support me in this situation. Since then he's been great, lol. But not all partners know what to do, so if you have a partner and they're lost, I really recommend telling them how to support you. Do you need hugs? Advice? Zero advice and just listening? Tell them. For me it's listening to me rant and give me hugs and make me food and rub my feet. That's all I need.

-Don't test early. I know. There are tests that claim to know you're pregnant from the moment you had sex, but it's really not guaranteed. I did both the testing when I felt for sure I was pregnant, and I just let AF come. And I have to say, personally, letting AF come was just better. Because either way, if I test early and get a BFN, I still have in the back of my mind that I just tested too early... so what's the point? When I let AF come, I felt like my body was just doing what it's meant to, vs an ugly white stick telling me I'm a failure. I kind of vowed to wait until my period is late to test. Plus, the whole testing early thing is a ploy from the pregnancy test companies to get you to use more tests!

-Start new projects and initiatives. This was key for me because I have my own businesses and work from home, so I can easily spend a day doing, well, nothing. But I started a few new projects for my business and personally, and its taken so much of my focus and distracted me. If your work if your thing- amazing! But if not, I really recommend starting something new. For my its art that brings me joy, but there's also sports, lectures, classes, and more that can bring you happiness and take your focus from TTC.

-Control what you can. Sadly, with TTC, there's not much we can control. But I made a list of things that I can: tracking my cycles with OPKS, doing BD when I'm fertile to maximize my chances (for us its been every other day during fertile time), drinking pomegranate juice and eating brazilian nuts (a small thing totally unproven to help but it makes me feel like I'm doing something good for my body), getting all the relevant fertility tests I can, seeing the correct doctors and doing what they say, and taking supplements. Some people check their BBT, so that's also another thing we can control. But, other than that, there isn't much to control aside from myself, and how much I let this process affect me negatively. So I do my rituals, and due my due diligence with BD and supplements, but other than that, there isn't much I can do.

-Stopping myself from spiraling. This is the hardest one. I haven't mastered it, yet... not even close. I'll spiral and go from "this cycle didn't work" to "I might never get pregnant", and half my day is lost to anxiety and sadness. My therapist really focuses on mindfulness, and how a thought is just a thought. I try to notice when my thoughts go bananas and let the thought sort of drift away, rather than take it as a fact or something I need to solve and focus on. Mindfulness is really hard for me, but I know that it's something that can really help me during this difficult time.

-Remembering that this is objectively hard. This process is objectively is hard. For every single person trying to get pregnant. Even for women who don't have anxiety like I do, this is a difficult situation. To wait 2 weeks for the most important news of my life, while my body is sending me mixed signals, is simply not an easy thing. Letting myself feel the pain in that, without trying to solve it or google symptoms, or whatever, is my goal during this time.

I hope this helps! I'm by no means a mental health expert, but I've suffered with mental health stuff my whole life and have spent the past 10 years working on it, so thought I'd share some of the things that help me.

Would really love to hear what gets you through the TWW!

How’s the name William in Israel?

It’s of course an Anglo name but will people be able to pronounce it? How is it spelled in Hebrew? Any pronunciation issues, or it’s enough of a known international name that people will know it?

Boys names that work in English and Hebrew without much pronunciation changes

We're an American/Israeli couple living in Israel and are looking for boy names that really don't change or have an equivalent different name in the other culture. For example, a name like Daniel works because it's (more or less) Daniel in both languages. Benjamin wouldn't work because it's Binyamin... same with Solomon/Shlomo, Samuel/Shmuel, Jacob/Yakob, Jordan/Yarden etc. Are there any other names like Daniel? Also the name has to work in both cultures. For example, we love Elliot but everyone in Israel would call him Eli (we have a friend who did this with her kid and everyone calls him Eli). Names that aren't necessarily fully Jewish could work, too, like James, William, etc. but they have to be pronounced similarly in both cultures.

Any ideas?

I can't open a project I saved on Space from my iPhone to my Mac

I saved a project from my iPhone to my space. When I go onto space on my mac desktop Capcut, I see it there. I click open, it says loading, then it doesn't open. I can open all other projects in there. I tried restarting, redownloading, duplicating, saving again. Nothing. I really prefer to edit this video (slash need to) on my desktop. Anyone know what's going on?

Got 5 rejections. The show I'm writing is my dream but feel like giving up.

Miraculously I sent my TV series materials to about 30 production companies (some cold, some with connections) and about 9 answered asking to read the materials.

Low and behold, I've only gotten rejections so far. Waiting on 2 to answer, and need to send materials to 2. Of course the others haven't answered yet, but waiting to follow up.

I don't live in the U.S. so the market is smaller.

Still, I feel so let down.

I read the script and deck again and again and I can actually see the holes now.

I just feel so annoyed/angry at myself for sending the materials as they were. One of the companies said to send materials in the future if I have something new, but everyone else just kinda passed. Two said the show is too similar to something that already aired and flopped, and the others pretty much just rejected it. I asked one for additional feedback if she has time.

I also need professional writers to read the script but my favors have run thin (I've asked my connections a bunch of times to help, and they won't accept pay so its just another favor I feel bad asking for.) I work with a coach and might ask her to help but she's expensive.

I know I need to make a ton of changes before I send it to the 2 that are waiting, or to query more companies, but I worked so hard on this draft and I feel my energy slipping away.

I guess its kind of good news that many production companies haven't answered as I have more time to work on the deck and pilot before I follow up, but I just feel I blew my chances with the ones who rejected me.

I know its not the worst thing in the world and I know I just need one company to believe in the story, but I can't help but feel defeated. I'm also so much better at writing and brainstorming with others and I haven't been able to find that person to help- everyone is so busy with their own stuff.

Any advice/words appreciated.

Best way to get script and pitch deck translated

I'm an American expat living abroad and wrote a pilot and pitch deck for a series that takes place in my current country. The script is in half-English, half-language-of-country-I-live-in, and the amount of English in the script should be acceptable where I live.

I've sent out the pitch deck and script in English (with indications when the dialogue is in the other language) and so far its been okay. But one notable production company said that they will read my materials but "If possible, we would prefer to receive them in [language]."

What is the best way to get the script translated? I speak the language but probably not well enough to know how to write the nuances. I can ask my native-born partner if he can do it, but he's definitely not a script writer. Can hire a professional translator... or use Fiverr or something.

Has anyone done this? What do you recommend? Thanks!

Can we name our baby after a good adult friend?

There's a name I absolutely love but its the name of a good friend (adult). He moved away but we talk on the phone all the time. Is it weird to name our child the same name? It would 100% not be named AFTER him, but its his name. And he'll always be in our life. I also wouldn't want to look at my baby and always think of my friend lol.

What are the limits of this? Do we tell him before? Such a toughie!

The name Solomon

What do you think about it? What are the natural nicknames? What assumptions would you make about a boy named Solomon?

The name Solomon

Is this a Hebrew and/or Israeli name? Will Israelis be able to recognize it or is there an equivalent in Hebrew that people will think makes more sense as a name?

I thought Shmuel but I feel thats more the Hebrew name for Samuel.

Sent my script and deck to a big producer, only to NOW think of important changes

As I wrote, a work colleague asked a producer if he'd read my script and deck and he agreed. I sent it, only to now realize that a few things weren't quite right (not necessarily typos or anything, but a few important things I want to add/change). Obviously nothing I can do, I'd never send a different draft, but just sucks that I feel a project is almost never really finished. Hoping he'll be able to understand my voice and message and still like the project. Curious if it's happened to you.

Raging yeast infection while TTC

Had sex Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and probably ovulated Friday or Saturday. Strip was almost positive Friday at 7pm, but then lighter at 2pm on Saturday, so pretty sure I missed my surge.

On Thursday after sex, began itching like crazy. I’m extremely prone to yeast infections but often also have crazy allergic itchiness if I use a soap that isn’t hypoallergenic so I thought it was that. Still had sex Saturday in order to cover my chances to conceive.

Then saw the awful cottage cheese on my partner. UGH.

Messaged my doctor but do you know if any medicines that are safe incase we did manage to conceive? Anything natural to calm this puppy down?

Also, has anyone had this happen to them?

I’m so worried it’s ruined my chances and I’m so worried and itchy lol.

I’m new to this and any complication just makes me so nervous/frustrated.

Thanks!

The names Leah/Lia and Aria for baby girl

How are the names Aria and Lia/Leah (pronounced lee-uh) perceived in Israel?

I understood Leah/Lia is really common right now amongst little girls. Is it true? How many Lias can be expected to be in one classroom? And what about Aria? Is it popular? What can you assume about a baby Aria?

Differences in perception of the names between Israelis and Anglos?

How can I write an ensemble TV series but with a protagonist?

Ala shows like Crashing and Search Party, I'm writing a tv series with three "main characters", but I want a larger percentage of the focus and screen time to be on one of the three characters.

How can I communicate this properly in a pitch deck? How can I make it clear in the premise section as well as the characters section? And how do I communicate that its an ensemble?

Any tips appreciated.

Should we start trying this month or next?

My fiancé and I are ready. We've wanted a baby for the longest time. We were meant to get married in March but due to circumstances beyond our control, our wedding is happening June. Since we live abroad, we're also having an international wedding in October. One too many weddings if you ask me, but we're excited.

The question is, do we start trying this cycle (basically in a few days) so I'd be about 5 weeks pregs if it works by the wedding (hopefully without symptoms) or do we wait until next month. I'd love to be out of the first trimester by the 2nd wedding, but of course can't really control that.

I'm 36... which means this might take awhile. I pray not, of course, but you never, ever know. I guess the only reason for us to wait is to have time after the wedding to not be pregnant, but I'm really terrified about my age and waiting more and more, also understanding that if we do have issues conceiving, I'd like to know sooner rather than later.

Another reason is that I'm starting special therapy for my OCD, so would be nice for that to kick in and everything. We're also winding down a round of couples therapy (things are going well, we had some bad habits we wanted to get rid of) so more time to work on our relationship I guess could be good, but relationships are neverending works in progress so I'm not sure that really matters.

This probably came off as a as a ramble but would love any thoughts :) thanks!

Rate my girls name list

  1. Lia/Leah (need the pronunciation to be Lee-uh)

  2. Alma (also, how do you pronounce it and where do you live? How common is this name and what do you assume about someone with this name?)

  3. Aria

  4. Eliana

Why did you choose the order you did? Why do you like/dislike some of the names?

Also- any others that are similar, would love to hear.

What do you think of the name "Shane" for a boy?

This name popped into my head as I really find it really beautiful, but I never, ever see it suggested here as a name for a boy. Wondering why.

There's also Shayna for a girl.

Thoughts?

Partner and I almost break up every luteal and it’s breaking me

As the post says, we go through the same fucking cycle every month. And it’s impossible to tell if it’s PMS or not but I get hyper critical and want to throw him out the window.

I also have ROCD (if you havent checked this for yourself and feel as I do, i recommend getting it checked, it changed my life with this diagnosis) and it goes off the RAILS when I PMS. And I criticize and act crazy and do everything in my power not to scream at him.

We haven’t gotten close to actually breaking up but I fantasize about it. Then period comes and a few days later slowly we come back to one another and have sex then boom pms hits again.

I genuinely hate it and my life.

And he is SO bad at realising when my pms is even though I tell him every month. And I’ll be like oh I’m PMSing and he’s like ohhhh and softens. Why can’t you remember!???? I told you 2 days ago!

All I can see are the bad things about him. And objectively he’s a good partner.

Whyyyy do we go through this? Why is the world so cruel as to do this to us??

I long of living in a commune where I can have my fellow ladies with me and vent to them and just have space and love when I need it.

It’s so damn hard.

Anyone else?
