How much milk alongside solids

Hi everyone, FTM on our weaning journey and wondered how much milk (formula/breast milk) LOs are still having for those that are bottle fed and know.

My LO is 8months, and absolutely loves his solids from the start. He’s now on 3 good sized meals a day and very comfortable with things like toast and soft pasta etc.

I wasn’t expecting his milk to decrease until around 10-12 months, but this last few weeks there’s been a decline in what he wants.

He was having 210ml / 7oz morning and night, and then 150ml / 5oz at 11am and 4pm. It’s now dropped to around 150ml/ 5oz morning and night, and about 90-120ml 3/4oz late morning and afternoon.

Do you phase one bottle out or let all bottles decrease in volume? And from those who’ve gone through this stage roughly when did they start decreasing?

Thanks!

Moving to the big Cot

2 weeks ago we moved our 6month old into his proper cot in his room. We have a wooden cotbed so it’s quite large but the next to me was just too small and he was rattling around in it.

Problem is that he’s quite wiggly, likes to roll over and shuffles up to the top end, and is frequently hitting his head on the wooden bars which is waking him up screaming.

What do people do in this scenario? Obviously cot bumpers got banned, but I’m also struggling to just do nothing and watch him hurt himself and disrupt sleep so much!

What to expect

FTM and sleep is a major priority for me ahead of returning to work in Dec.

LO is currently 6months and sleep is ok/ good but I’m not sure how things will progress and what to expect focus on over the next 6months, appreciate a bit of an idea on schedules number of naps etc as things change.

Currently up at 7am ish, 3 naps a day first and last are short of 20-30mins and one middle of the day about 1.5-2hrs (9.20am; 12.30pm; 4.30pm)

WW roughly 2.25 / 2.5 / 2.25/ 2.75

Bedtime around 7.45pm-8pm. Tends to wake for a feed at 1.30/2am and can often stir around 4.30/5.30 but goes back to sleep until 6.50/7.15am. I’m quite strict about getting up at 7.15am latest for our days schedule.

My questions are:

When do you drop from 3 to 2 naps?
When dropping from 3 to 2, does total nap time need to stay roughly the same or decreases by that last nap time (currently about 2.5-3hrs of naps)
I see lots of ppl saying naps stay around 9.30am and 12.30/1pm ish but I don’t know how with longer WW?
7.45/8pm bedtime works well as he pretty much does 10.5-11hrs overnight, how do I maintain a 7.30-8pm bedtime on 2 naps as dropping the 4.30pm one means being awake from 2/2.30pm?
How do I eventually wean off the 1.30am feed? I’ve tried to just rock and sooth but boy does he get mad. It’s only a 20min dream feed so not hugely problematic but he is getting enough in the day.

What do wake windows and nap schedules look like at 7-8months and 9-12months (I’m not clear on when things typically change).

Do babies typically drop to one nap after 12months?

Gift recommendations

I have a skincare obsessed friend and would like to buy something that’s a popular well loved product for her birthday, nothing niche but something that a lot of people rate.

I’m thinking a moisturiser / SPF or a luxury hair mask.

Any recommendations? Thinking roughly £25-30 (can be a mini version?)

Steriliser

LO is nearly 6months and have been combi feeding.
We use MAM bottles and recently been using the bigger ones a couple of times a day but they don’t fit easily in the Tommy Tippee steriliser.

I’m debating whether to buy the MOMCOZY 4 in 1, 8 in 1, or washer and steriliser. The washer and steriliser is £299 though compared to about £60 and we’re realistically half way through the bottle feeding period, with presumably 6months or less of this (plus seen lots of people say they don’t sterilise as much after weaning).

Is it worth it? Should I just go for the steriliser? Does anyone know how many MAM bottles fit in it?

5 days of antibiotics

Looking for thoughts / advice, I’ve got tonsillitis and been prescribed erythromycin which both the pharmacist and dr google tells me is considered safe for breastfeeding.

My baby is 5.5months and combi fed, takes breast milk and formula in bottles and breastfeeds a few times a day.

Even though it’s a low amount that goes into breast milk, I’m concerned about the exposure of antibiotics pre-6months.

I don’t know whether to exclusively pump and pour away for 5 days 😭 or just accept that it’s a low amount and continue as normal. Any opinions?

Rolling onto tummy

My baby is 5months and from around 3.5months learnt to roll onto his tummy. However this week he has started turning onto his front at night and is waking up SCREAMING in a panic. Is this normal? I’m desperately trying to teach him how to roll onto his back in the day but I’m losing my mind with the number of wakings.

Do I need to buy a new mattress that’s more breathable or anything?

Baby / Toddler / Kid Rituals

I’d love to know about little rituals / fun routines or activities from your childhood that you cherish, or that you do with your little ones.

As an example, when I was younger my dad would do ‘Torch Night’ probably once every 2-4weeks with my brother and I. After getting ready for bed we’d get into my parents bed, have the lights off with one of us having a torch, and we’d pretend we were on a space ship taking off we’d have to guess the answers to presumably easy riddles or questions and then he’d tell us stories. We loved it!

Looking for similar ideas of things to do

Night Weaning and Supply

My LO is a unicorn sleeper, and was from day 1. Nearly 5months and apart from a 3-4 weeks around the 4month regression would often wake once or twice between 8pm-7am.

In the last week he’s started sleeping through the full night, and I’ve always thought our breasts are meant to adapt, but I’m worrying that if we have the odd night with wakes, from teething or otherwise, I won’t have the supply there anymore. This morning despite not feeding all night they are softer.

Do I need to set alarms to pump? At only 5months it feels too early to ‘night wean?’ even if that’s accidentally rather than intentional.

Cervix Stuck Very Prosterior

Hi everyone

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar to this…

Last year at 23+4 I found out my cervix had shortened to 2cm and the next day had an emergency cerclage fitted. We spent each week hoping to hang in there, and we did, we made it all the way to full term!

At 37 weeks I had the stitches removed, a very painful experience but it was done. Due to a different complication I had to have a c section at 40+1 as needed to deliver and my cervix would not budge it was really far posterior when checked, even though bulging /thin as he was very low.

I had a coil fitted during the C, and it half fell out 2 weeks later so I needed it to be removed, which was a struggle because my cervix was so far back.

So basically my cervix seems to be stuck really far back after the stitches and because I didn’t deliver naturally hasn’t moved or opened up.

Anyone else had this after a cerclage?

Hi everyone, I have a combi fed baby and at the moment we do bedtime around 7pm and wake him up at 10-11pm for a big bottle feed and he’ll then sleep to 3-4am. We’re 3.5months and know at this time continuing to wake him can start to cause more harm than good with his sleep.

Problem is this is his biggest feed of the day, he’ll do 5-6oz needed for the long sleep stretch. He doesn’t do a big feed at 7pm.

Do we just drop this 10pm feed? Or start moving it earlier?

Thanks!
