Baby's POV: Someone's At The Door!

You hit the toy. SWISH. A colorful shape spins. (Again.)

*Fascinating.*

Suddenly there's a loud sound. Where is it coming from? Oh, the door! Someone is walking through the door. Who is it? Hmm...

OH MY GOSH. It's THEM. It's one of your Favorite People.

You grin and your entire body scrunches up. It's them!!! You're so excited. This is the best!

You hit the toy again, but you're over it. Your Special Person is here! Your mind made up, you now crawl as fast as you can towards them.

"Here she comes!" They say.

You have no idea what they're saying. But it makes you feel happy.

"The Itsy Bitsy Baby climbed up the water spout," they sing, as you climb up their legs. You love music, but their voice is your favorite song.

"Ha, da da da," you say. (That is a compliment.)

Finally, they pick you up. At last! Peace and security wash over you. You feel at home. You're exactly where you want to be.

WAIT, what is that on the shelf??? You need it right now!

"Ahhh, ra ra ra!" You say, reaching towards the shelf. (That means, I want it* now.)

*It = anything/everything :)

Need help with manufactured home decisions

Hey folks, my friend is looking to buy a manufactured home. (If there's a better sub for this question, please let me know!)

They want to compare costs, pros and cons, and recommendations based on the following situations:

•buying a small lot and placing a new manufactured home that wouldn't require any renovations onto it

•buying an existing manufactured home and the lot it's on and then the cost of renovations on the home

•purchasing a new manufactured home and putting it on a lot they lease

•purchasing an existing manufactured home on a lot they would have to lease

If it helps to know, we are in the PDX Metro area (Oregon). Thank you!

What do you wish volunteers knew?

I am in the process of becoming a hospice volunteer, and I'm wondering what y'all (family or staff) wishes we knew. What would make your life better. What are common mistakes to avoid. Stuff like that. Thanks so much.

Can I transition to normal hand stands after pool hand stands? (And how?)

I learned how to do a hand stand (including a walking hand stand) in the pool this summer. Super fun! Now I'm wondering if this is something I can build on? I tried learning to cartwheel for an hour as a teen (all my friends figured it out quickly)... I'm kind of a clumsy person, so I thought these kind of tricks just aren't for me. But then I learned this pool trick, and maybe I truly need a pool, but idk...?

Any chance I could use this??

Interested in volunteering (musician), what can I expect?

Hi all, I appreciate this community so much. I'm learning a lot about end of life care/stages/etc. It's showing me that I might have a heart for working with folks in hospice (and their families). I think the first step is to just volunteer. I'm a musician so I'd love to share music with patients, if that's something a local hospice center would want...

Anyway I'm wondering what I can expect? Just in general and specifically as a volunteer. I definitely feel intimidated, but I want to push past that nervousness and see how it goes.

My one experience with hospice was very positive... I went to say goodbye to my great-grandpa. They moved him to a front room, by a beautiful window. I remember the light shining through the leaves. My dad and I held his hands. I don't think words were needed. It was extremely touching and I'm forever grateful.

So yeah I have a big heart to help, but also know I'm coming into this very naive. Appreciate any advice or insights, thank you!!

Fun places for 8mo baby?

Ideally on the Westside or just across the river (eg, OMSI)... We can do more stroller outings, but she really wants to get out and crawl, practice standing, stuff like that. Oh but she gets nervous if there's too many people, so indoor play places can be difficult 🫠 (Why are babies??) But maybe going at an off hour?

But yeah I'm just wondering if there's somewhere to try we haven't thought of... I want to give her more fun experiences out of the house, but she's in an awkward stage right now I guess lol.

Do you notice any other nannies when you're out?

It's just funny, I feel like I can always spot my fellow nannies. There's a sense of "on the clock" or something? Like kind of "waiting" (killing time)? I'm sure I seem the same! Lol. I can probably tell because we are both feeling the same thing haha. (And of course I could be wrong, this is just a guess.)

Meanwhile parents give off this kind of stressed "ugh I have a million things to do and my kid needs to just get in the freaking car" feeling haha. (Also valid!)

No judgement on anyone, we're all doing our best to manage small children in public and that's no small feat! But yeah does anyone else clock their fellow nannies??

Looking for a book about using social media in *moderation*

I'm looking for a self-help type book that guides you to use your phone / social media more mindfully. The goal is not to reduce my social media time to zero or 2 hrs per week or whatever. I want to be more in control, I want to be intentional about using it. I would love a book that encourages that mindset.

Background: I do really enjoy social media, as a way to connect, for resources, for relaxation. It can be a great tool (for me). Also I'm disabled, and when I was unable to work, it was a way to stay connected to the outside world. And finally, I'm autistic and I do use sometimes use social media as a way to regulate. (I also have other tools, music for ex...)

At the same time, I do think I'm addicted. I do think the apps are setup like gambling. And I find myself checking it randomly when I don't actually want to. Those times just feel like a distraction and I'm so tired of it.

I'm looking for a harm reduction approach. Does that exist in a book?? Like someone can choose to gamble with a set budget and have a healthier relationship with it. I'm looking for an author who doesn't demonize social media, but rather who understands it can be a valid entertainment option - used in moderation.

I'm also open to suggestions of subreddits that might know of such a book.

Note: if you think social media should all be burned down to the ground, okay, but that's not what I'm looking for.

Will 7mo NK remember me after my vacation...?

Help I'm spiraling a bit...

I've been with NK since she was 3mo. Usually 3 days per week (there were a few days off here and there). I'm taking my first vacation - one *work week* off, but I already have long weekends - so it's 11 days total.

Suddenly tonight I was panicking that NK won't remember me when I get back. She just turned 7mo. She recently entered her independent/clingy phase. She's extra clingy with me in public. I feel like we have a great attachment, she's my little buddy and I just love her.

So all that said, I *think* it should be fine, but I'm just not sure if I'll be gone too long...? Should I encourage MB/DB to show her pictures of me while I'm gone??

Gummigoo - the promise that was never executed...

The Gummigoo storyline was so promising. It was very surreal, even more so than our main cast. It gave me the same excitement that Nathan Fielder shows do; I love when shows play with reality like this.

And then... It didn't really go anywhere. Yes Pomni sees Gummigoo in the next episode, but that might as well have been an awkward encounter with an ex. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the rest of the show. But I felt like there was potential to really dive deep into surrealism, but it didn't happen.

Honestly a lot of the story could have taken place anywhere; it's more interpersonal drama than anything else. Which again, I can appreciate that kind of story, but it's about the potential without execution. (And anyway, we get interpersonal drama narratives all the time!) Like episode one ends with Pomni in horror, the music was happy, it was an amazing dark comedy... Annnnd then she just adapts.

I just feel like the first two episodes were promising something different, and that's disappointing. I still appreciate what we got. (I actually really loved the finale!) But this is my biggest complaint, I think.

I understand treating it like a fake cartoon

All the haters think Jax is an abusive monster, and I could see that if this all happened in the *real world*... But it happened in like a cartoon purgatory. As someone who has suffered from dissociation, I think if I was put into the circus, it could cause me to heavily dissociate and treat the whole thing like a joke. I'm not saying I would be a bully to someone like Gangle, but I would prob at least do a lot of stupid shit to the NPCs because... Who fucking cares?? I might as well be dead, none of this is real, etc etc.

So yeah I understand Jax's mindset and I feel like people are taking the story out of context.

Realized Jax reminds me of my brother :(

Me: Wow I sure love Jax, there's a lot of reasons why, but I feel like there's another hidden reason I'm missing... I feel like a Big Sister to him, but he doesn't remind me of a *little* brother-

Bubble: Maybe it's because he reminds you of your big brother who used to bully you, became your friend, and now you're afraid he'll die of an OD?

Me: Fuck

Babies DO remember your love...

  • "While babies may not remember discrete events from their infancy, they will remember how to eat, how to walk, and, importantly, their stress systems and emotional systems will remember how the people they love made them feel."

Don't mind me, just crying over here... I am making a difference even if she doesn't consciously remember me :}

Also, anyone else pre-grieve as they nanny? It's so hard knowing I won't get to watch her grow up. My contract is supposed to be just one year :(

What happens after Isn't She Lovely? [SPOILERS]

So Jax abstracted, but Pomni was able to visit him "inside"... Then he disappears (turns white). What is the implication? It feels like he died, but he's not actually dead. Maybe his inner self died, and now he's existing in a more animal state? It felt like the ability to visit him "inside" was over... So this would make sense I think?

Thoughts?

What do you wish you had known sooner

If you are farther along in your conversion process or already completed... What things do you wish you had known sooner about how it would all go? Like logistically, emotionally, etc.

(I finished about a month ago and I'm in a reflective mood lol)
