tips for flying with sore throat!

am going on a flight tomorrow morning, and woke up yesterday with a sore throat when swallowing. i think that it is post nasal drip because there are no white spots at the back of my throat (it's just mildly red and a bit swollen) and my allergies had been really bad during the day.

no other symptoms, no fever, no coughing or sneezing.

other than bringing strepsils and wearing a mask (bc i will wear a mask), any tips on how to make the flight a little bit more comfortable?

how did you guys figure out what you wanted to after university?

currently in my first year doing an undergrad at quite a prestigious university, but i have no idea what i'm going to do after. masters of psychology was always the plan for me, but university psych is kicking my ass and i'm not sure my average will be high enough to get into it at the end of my undergrad. i've always always wanted to be a teacher, i've just loved every work-experience job related to teaching, but after years of people telling me how horrible it is, i've given up on that. genuinely what else am i supposed to do.

ai detection for crim1001

a lot of my friends have been detected for AI in CRIM1001, and have just been able to send in proof of editing history and that would be enough.

recently got flagged for an essay i did not use ai for, and found out i had grammarly unknowingly running in the background. rewrote the essay and no ai detection. unfortunately, i wrote the crim take home exam while grammarly was running, and am afraid i will be detected. i have all my planning and editing history.

if i get ai flagged on the take home exam, would it be the same procedure (emailing proof) or would it have to be more harsh, like in person meetings etc. I am just worried as I will not be in the country in about a week if that does happen.

[Acne] how to stop breakouts around the nose

i've never been prone to breakouts, but for some reason my nose has been kind of bad recently. i've always had redness under the nose, but the other pimples are new. no idea where they've come from.

i haven't had anything new in my skincare, which is pretty simple, just byoma milky cleanser and i alternate between byoma moisturiser or cetaphil. i have been really stressed recently with exams, so i haven't been sleeping so well, but this has never happened before.

any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: i also have quite a lot of tiny dots that aren't exactly pimples on the area where glasses would normally rest on the nose. i don't really wear glasses so i don't think it's from that

only 4 days to study for MBB1 - doable?

I have an assignment due Monday and the MBB 1 exam Tuesday and working all day Sunday. Thinking of smashing like a paragraph per day for the assignment which shouldn't take up too much time, and was planning on doing the blurting method with one topic a day - Learning and Cognition, Behavioural, Sensation and Reception, Research Methods. It will be hard, but hoping my VCE psych knowledge can help me a bit here, because I don't have time to make a bunch of flashcards and study them with the time I have.

If anyone here has done MBB1 before, how difficult are the exams? It's multiple choice which I think is making me a bit less nervous but sometimes they can be pretty difficult.

Edit: Had been studying for the exam I had yesterday for like the last week so had not really touched psych

feeling guilty for sending a *somewhat* unreasonable email to my professor

Recently in uni I was accused of using AI to write an essay which I did not use AI for. I had a meeting with the subject coordinator and basically we boiled it down to the possibility that I may accidentally have had grammarly or something already downloaded on my laptop that was making edits without me realising. I also had extensive editing history I showed to prove it was not AI, but she didn't even want to look at it because she believed that I had not used AI. she told me not to stress about it anymore, and it would likely result in nothing and I would be able to get a grade.

Two days later, today, I received an email informing me that after she spoke to the academic integrity principle, I have to write a completely new essay from scratch on a completely new topic. as this is part 2 of an assignment, I will not even have part 1 to guide me, I will essentially have to do both assignments. I have been given a span of 4 days. it is also exam period, and I have an important one coming up in 5 days, which I have not been able to study for due to studying for my exam today for the past week. BTW, other students in other subjects who have had these allegations simply show their editing history and receive a mark, no extra assignment needed.

I was pretty frustrated when this happened, and I sent my teacher an email, basically saying that I will complete the replacement essay, and that I understand my teacher didn't have a say in the decision, but that I just wanted to express my confusions about the misleading meeting, the disparities in how AI flagging is dealt with, etc. I wanted to check to make sure if I got falsely flagged again then I would have the ability to plead my case.

The heat of the moment has kind of passed now, and I feel so silly! Why did I send an email knowing my professor couldn't do anything? I think I just wanted my frustrations heard, and I've never been someone who's ever complained to an authority figure before, and am kind of nervous she will think I'm being really annoying and give me a bad mark on this replacement essay. I made it clear that I understood there was nothing she could do but that I found the situation a bit confusing, and to be transparent about the fact that this new essay likely would not reflect my best work due to the short time frame.

Is this serious enough to send an apology follow up email? I am scared she will be upset and rescind the offer of a replacement essay and just give me a 0!

Help!

been feeling so unbelievably down

I (18F) just feel like it's been thing after thing after thing recently. Broke my laptop the other day while I was out of the house because I was stupid and didn't close my bag properly. I'm going to pay to get it fixed, so I feel a bit less guilty but I still feel bad.

Then, right after I stopped crying in the library bathrooms because of that, I got an email that I got AI flagged on a uni assignment. I think it felt worse because I knew that I did use AI (not as much as I was being accused of but the assignment had definitely been touched by AI). I've used it a bit in almost all of my assignments, not to write but just to rephrase/edit, and had never been caught. My meeting went fine and I was basically let off the hook because she could tell it was still mostly me, and I probably accidentally had Grammarly running in the background or something (could be true but I didn't do it intentionally).

Then today I did the worst exam probably of my life. As I was reeling from that, I got an email saying that my teacher had spoken with the Academic Misconduct head, and they both agreed it would be acceptable for me to rewrite with the entire essay with a new topic, and it would be due the day before a big exam. Burst into tears again, thought about how much studying I'm going to have to do with the exam plus this new assignment, and about how unfair it was that she had just told me nothing would happen with this and everything would be fine, and now I'm being given 4 days during exam period to rewrite an entire essay. Worst part was, it was part 2 of an assignment, and, as I couldn't use the same topic, I didn't have a part 1 to guide me. So it's like doing two assignments in one. Mum saw me crying, and told me to write an email to express my frustrations. I was very polite about it, I told my teacher I was happy to rewrite it but I just expressed my concerns about the misleading meeting we had, and I was scared that maybe my actual writing style is kind of AI like and was scared of getting flagged again for this replacement one. I was very polite and assured her I knew she wasn't able to do anything about it, but just wanted to express these frustrations.

Now I feel this deep pit in my stomach because I've been acting like such a victim even though I technically did use AI, like idk why I've been gaslighting myself into thinking I've been falsely accused, and these allegations towards me are not totally unfounded. I didn't use it to the extent I was being accused of by the AI detector, but I have no right to complain.

Now, I feel extra anxious because I used a bit of AI in my take home exam for another subject, and am scared of getting flagged. This subject has notoriously been pretty chill about it, as long as you have evidence you actually wrote it yourself people have always been let go, but I'm not sure if they will be less chill because it is an exam. I've just been really stressing, even though I know it'll probably be fine because I have evidence that I actually technically wrote it myself. I am vowing to myself never to use AI again

I'm going on a holiday after exams but I almost feel like I don't deserve to go on a holiday.

Idk, guess I'm just looking for reassurance. I have no motivation to study for my exam or to do this essay (which I WILL NOT touch AI for). I feel totally worthless.

Would you be upset if you received this email from a student?

I also had extensive editing history I showed to prove it was not AI, but she didn't even want to look at it because she believed that I had not used AI. having grammarly accidentally running is very likely not the case, but she essentially told me this was the most juvenile reason and that I would almost certainly receive no punishment for it, and a grade should be coming my way soon.

Two days later, today, I received an email informing me that after she spoke to the academic integrity principle, I have to write a completely new essay from scratch on a completely new topic. as this is part 2 of an assignment, I will not even have part 1 to guide me, I will essentially have to do both assignments. I kind of explained my frustrations in the short time frame I was given, the misleading meeting I had with my subject coordinator, and the inconsistency in how AI allegations were dealt with, but all in a (what I hope was) very respectful way. I also wanted to check to make sure if I got falsely flagged again then I would have the ability to plead my case.

The heat of the moment has kind of passed now, and I'm feeling a bit ashamed. I'm usually a massive people pleaser, and I've never been someone who's ever complained to an authority figure before, and am kind of nervous she will think I'm being really annoying and give me a bad mark on this replacement essay. I made it clear that I understood there was nothing she could do but that I found the situation a bit confusing, and to be transparent about the fact that this new essay likely would not reflect my best work due to the short time frame.

how to stop feeling like I don't deserve things?

I find it so hard to enjoy good things in my life if I've recently made a mistake. it doesn't even matter how big or how small the mistake is. Accidentally broke my laptop the other day, and I couldn't even eat food I felt so guilty. I've been flagged for AI usage in a uni essay, and now have to rewrite the whole thing. My mum says to just look forward to our trip coming up soon, but I just feel like I don't deserve to even have a trip. I feel like my life is constantly just being stressed about something or feeling anxious about something that might happen later on. Or I just feel like something is going to happen to ruin the trip, I don't know I just find it so hard to find the silver linings now.

ai meeting

received an email about being accused of having a "high ai score" in my essay, even though i did not use ai. reading over it, it does seem pretty formulaic which may be why it was flagged. but i wrote the essay over multiple days, and i have the editing history to prove it.

i am just really nervous that she will quiz me or something on my essay, and i will have forgotten bc i submitted the essay like two weeks ago. has anyone had one these meetings? shitting myself right now

student - air or neo

just completely cracked my 3 yr old macbook air (moment of silence please) and am wondering whether i should replace w macbook air or the new neo. i probably could afford a macbook air because i am splitting the price with me mum, but a little less money is never a bad thing. i don't rlly use it for anything except study and watching videos, but would also like a more durable laptop that i preferably won't have to upgrade in a couple years

help would be appreciated!

is it normal to not do so well first semester?

it's looking like my WAM will be in the mid-high 60s if i don't completely flunk all my exams. i'm feeling really dispirited because ive always done well in high school, and barely even got grades this low.

i think i had too much of a carefree attitude this semester, missed quite a few lectures and picked some really bad subjects that did no favours for my wam.

i guess im just looking for ppl in the same boat/have experienced this and bounced back.

does it seem like my teeth will have permanent white spots after braces?

i totally get that it's hard to tell from pictures, but i feel like my teeth are quite yellow and are slightly discoloured in spots, and have seen many horror stories of people with permanent white spots due to plaque buildup after braces.

got my teeth cleaned a few weeks ago and had another ortho appt a few days ago, and neither of them mentioned whether i have a lot of plaque, but i admittedly have not been very consistent with flossing over the 2 years. getting my braces removed soon and am a bit nervous!

any thoughts would be appreciated!!

for the girls: how much is dyeing hair/getting nails done

i'm going to shanghai in july, and I'm super excited! going to singapore and hong kong first so i was thinking of getting my hair and nails done in china which i know would be cheaper than those places.

around how much do you think a woman's cut and colour would be? and how much would gel extensions be (usually about $120 AUD, with some designs)

i'm also going to dongbei so let me know if it would be cheaper there also!

good standalone books

i feel like so many books are series now, and i keep jumping between series until i get sick of it, what are some genuinely good standalones? looking for something with some found family, romance, adventure/mystery/fantasy.

underrated books/series that don't feel commercialised

as someone who primarily gets book recs off of tiktok or youtube, i find that many of them have this weird commercial feeling about them that lacks heart. like i want a book that made me feel the way i did when i read harry potter and percy jackson.

does anyone have recommendations of underrated books/series that will make you invested. saw a video about the raven cycles and sounds like the kind of books im looking for.

especially like books with a good romance side plot, found family, mystery, dystopia, sci fi etc.

thanks!

bottom quarter of bracket broke off - getting removed in one and a half weeks, is it ok?

it's a little hard to tell, but the little square where i've circled has fallen off, but i'm getting my braces taken off in like a week so do i need to get it fixed? i think i chipped it when eating something.

paronychia for the first time - is this serious?

pretty sure this is from ripping off a hangnail, but i have pretty bad health anxiety and have read lots about people having to go to urgent care and getting it drained etc. will this go away on its own? i've only noticed it today. no pain, just heat and mild throbbing.
