New (to me) colonial US cap lace
#WIPWednesday : I'm finally remaking the lace for my colonial cap. I put one of my first lace projects on it before, but I'm better now! And I found a lace that is more period- and region-appropriate. My early Torchon white piece is on the left. It is less skilled, let's say....
I think it needs to be a smidge smaller still, so one more iteration to come. I think the fan threads should be tighter together as cloth stitch. But this is fine for now.
I reverse engineered the pattern from this #MFABoston cap.
This is a job that was unfamiliar to me, and I found this story about it informative and useful as I learn the system.
Lost Canadians are swamping the archives, as we all know. I feel bad that they government didn't prepare them for this. It's exponential. This is the woman from New Brunswick archives.
She also mentioned a monthly meeting with the other archivists across the country, so they are strategizing or sympathizing with each other. I wish we could send them some Timbits or something for their meetings....
The linked audio interview can be directly accessed here: https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-2-as-it-happens/clip/16212648-why-many-americans-calling-new-brunswicks-archivist
The interview on this topic starts around 9 minutes and ends around 16 minutes.
They also are talking about improving the access to straightforward records with more automated systems. I wish them luck with that!
I know I should be trying new things, but I love this pattern so much that I can't stop making it. This time with smaller thread and nice variegated hand-dyed colors by Marilee Rockley. You can wind up a shuttle with rose colors and just keep making roses when you have short time frames and save them for later when you are ready to make a vine and attach them.
Needed a new insulated lunch bag for lace demo days, so of course now it has tatting on it.... My supervisor appears unimpressed. Alas.

Currently listening to the audio book of this. It is so far very much a 20th century arc of a life in Canada that might be of interest to some folks.
