applications

Guys, I was looking at the spreadsheet, and some people from last year applied in October and even received a response within a week. I was wondering how that’s possible

I spent months building a Qur’an app… and today it finally made it to the App Store 🤍

I’ve been working on this for months, and it honestly feels surreal to finally share it.
NIYYAH Quran Companion is now available on the App Store. 🤍

I built NIYYAH as a calm Qur’an learning companion for reading, reflection, verified recitation, progress, and private study circles.

The idea came from wanting a Qur’an app that didn’t make learning feel overwhelming or competitive. Something you could open, read an ayah, listen to its recitation, take a moment to reflect, learn something new, and come back again tomorrow.

With NIYYAH, you can:
• Read the Qur’an with translation
• Listen to verified recitation
• Get clear learning support to better understand ayahs
• Save personal reflections in a private journal
• Track your reading and learning progress
• Save Qur’anic vocabulary
• Join private Qur’an circles with family, friends, classmates, or MSA groups
• Do gentle check-ins without public rankings or pressure

One thing that was especially important to me while building NIYYAH was trust.

The Qur’an text is never generated or rewritten by AI. Source tafsir is only shown when verified and attributed material is available. Educational summaries, reflections, quizzes, and other learning tools are clearly separated from source tafsir.

NIYYAH also isn’t meant to replace scholars, teachers, or classical tafsir study. It’s simply a companion — something to help you return to the Qur’an, reflect on what you’re reading, and keep learning with sincerity.

I built this as a student, and getting from the original idea to an actual app on the App Store took a LOT longer than I expected. There were bugs, redesigns, testing, App Store review, rejection, more changes, and plenty of moments where I wondered if I’d actually get it finished.

But it’s finally here. 🥹

NIYYAH Quran Companion is now available on the App Store.

Niyyah Quran Companion

If you have a moment to try it, I’d genuinely love to know what you think.

And if you use Qur’an apps already: what’s something you wish they did better?

I’m still building, and your feedback could help shape what NIYYAH becomes next.

Understand the Qur’an. One ayah at a time. 🤍

uOttawa IDG + IELS vs Carleton PAPM — which fits better?

I’m stuck between these two programs and need advice from current students/grads.

I originally wanted uOttawa International Development & Globalization with the In-depth Experiential Learning Stream because I like hands-on learning, projects, and applying what I learn instead of only lectures.
But I recently found Carleton PAPM and it also seems like a good fit because I like global issues, leadership, and problem-solving.
I’m wondering how hands-on both programs actually are in reality. Is uOttawa IDG + IELS really as experiential as it sounds? And is Carleton PAPM mostly essays/readings or does it also have practical projects, simulations, and real-world experiences?
Which program would you recommend for someone who learns better by doing and wants a career related to international development, government, NGOs, or policy?
Thanks!

Assalamu alaykum,

I'm a student building NIYYAH, a Qur'an understanding and reflection app.

The idea came from something I personally struggled with: I could read and memorize surahs, but I did not always understand what the surah was about, why it was revealed, or what each ayah was teaching.

NIYYAH is meant to help with:

- Surah context
- Why a surah was revealed
- Simple ayah-by-ayah explanations
- Source tafsir access
- Reflection prompts
- Journaling
- Quizzes and vocabulary review

The core learning experience will stay free. It is not meant to replace scholars, tafsir, or teachers. It is meant to make understanding easier for beginners.

Would this be helpful to you or someone you know? What would make you trust an app like this?

Early detection of GDM

Hi, I’m a Grade 11 student in Canada who built an early detection tool for gestational diabetes that tracks trends in your glucose, blood pressure and weight weekly. I’m trying to understand if this would actually be useful before I build further. Would love 5 minutes of your honest thoughts especially if you’ve dealt with GDM or live far from a doctor!
