University of Michigan votes to build datacenter for nuclear weapons development in low income town
Worth it to respectfully confront a ghoster after 3 dates?
Hi everyone. Looking for some advice. I recently went on three great dates with someone, things were moving along at a good pace (last date was at my place, no sex but we cuddled and made out). It seemed to me everything was going great, lots of good conversation and 5-6 hour dates, etc. Had a really good gut feeling things were gonna work out, and my gut is usually never wrong.
Anyways, we were making a bit of small talk over text after and they just stopped replying. It's been 5 days now and I was wondering if it's ever worth it to respectfully confront someone you've been on three dates with? I know people say it makes you look desperate and shows you're chasing, but at the same time I've been ghosted before and I'm honestly just getting sick of being treated like shit on everyone's shoe. I really don't care if they ignore it or give any kind of explanation, I'd be doing it entirely for my own satisfaction.
Edit: I'd def wait a bit longer before sending anything because I know things come up. And I did already send a follow-up yesterday that they haven't responded to.
Touch Touch is Phenomenal
Out where I am because the time zone difference... the production is SO good, it's so 80s sounding, I like it 10x more than the snippets I've heard. Such a treat.
Ypsi Township Residents: UM Students Need Your Voice To Fight The Datacenter!
Hi everyone! I’m a student at the University of Michigan. Like many of you, I am deeply concerned about the impact of the LANL data center on our community. Myself and other UM students are organizing to fight back, but we cannot do it without the voices of the people who live in Ypsi Township!
We plan to address UM’s Central Student Government (CSG). They represent not just students, but also the surrounding communities impacted by university actions and investments. CSG holds regular meetings with senior university leadership. They also have a platform that can bring much-needed attention to the issue to others on campus. Gaining their support can help us fight the datacenter.
If you live in Ypsi Township and are willing to share a brief statement about how this data center impacts you/your family/your property, and why CSG should help, please send me a direct message or comment below.
Thank you all so much!
Edit: If anyone knows someone who organizes with Stop The Datacenter, please let me know. Their email inbox is full so I'm having a hard time reaching them.
My school (University of Michigan) is building a $1 billion datacenter to conduct undisclosed nuclear weapons research. It is located in a low-income community, and city leaders/residents who fear pollution have been ignored.
STEM biology initiative for underserved students in need of workshop space in Ann Arbor
Hi everyone! This is a bit of a shot in the dark, but I figured someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.
I am with a team of students from UM running a biology education initiative aimed at high school and early college-aged students (~17–20). We recently received a grant to buy some awesome lab equipment to run free hands-on workshops, but we just have one issue: we haven't been able to find any physical space to host them.
We’ve looked into space on campus, but UM has a web of room reservation restrictions, minor-safety policies, and administrative hoops for non-standard student events that make hosting these specific workshops on campus nearly impossible for us right now.
The actual requirements for our workshops are pretty low-barrier. We use 100% non-hazardous materials (think of stuff you'd find in an at-home science kit or high school bio class). We need a small room with a few tables for students. Storage is not necessary but would of course be a nice bonus.
Does anyone know of local community centers, libraries, churches, maker spaces, local businesses, or off-campus venues in the AA/Ypsi area that might be open to hosting something like this? Or even just a point of contact for someone who works with local community programming?
We have the funding and equipment and just want to get this stuff into students' hands! Any leads, contacts, or advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
I'm really, really tired of being ghosted after dates
I'm not talking about soft rejections, or people not following up after a date. I'm talking about, you had a great 3 to 4 hour long first date, they initiate a hug at the end, ask if they'll see you again, text an enthusiastic follow up saying they had a great time and definitely want to hang out again, and then when you follow up to see when they're free you just never hear from them again.
It's happened to me quite a few times now and it's starting to drive me mad. I've been in the dating scene for 2 years now, so I've been putting up with this for a hot minute. I never make any reference to a second date or seeing a person again while on a first date, because I never want to put someone under pressure to lie their way out of an awkward situation. If I have a good time I'll let them know afterwards (if they haven't already), but still always giving them an easy out ("text me at # if you'd like to go out again!"). But they don't take it, string me along and start planning a second date, then leave.
I really don't think it's a me thing, because I've had a few people who do want a second or third date, but unfortunately those people did not worked out for other reasons.
For context: I'm in college, good sized college town, but the dating scene here isn't huge.
City blocked my driveway for construction, won't tell me where to park
I called the number left on the notice in my mailbox and they didn't answer. I also called the main city line twice, they just transferred me to a dead line. Does anyone know what to do in this situation? I have nowhere to park my car.
Edit: Thank you everyone for your help. Someone from the engineering department ended up giving me a call back and provided instructions on what to do.
PSA: Be aware of private loan repayment terms. They might cost you thousands each month during residency.
As many of you know, the Big Beautiful Bill capped federal loans at 50k/year. A lot of us are looking at private loans as a result. Please be aware that many of these do not offer deferment or income driven repayment. This means you could be left responsible for well over $1,000+ a month in repayment obligations while still a resident, depending on how much you borrow. On top of your ~$300-$400 income-driven federal loan repayments. It is very easy to get into a situation where you cannot afford to repay your loans after modest living costs.
P.S. If anyone has gotten approved for a private loans that has favorable repayment terms and no co-signer please let me know.
Independent investigation describes Berkeley's AI investments as 'extreme' while entry-level jobs vanish
tl;dr the report has three main complaints:
- UC's endowment has at least $2 billion in highly AI-exposed funds. (likely more, but endowment is not itemized)
- Tech companies are embedded directly in Berkeley labs, funding research while faculty simultaneously hold paid positions at those same companies. Many do GenAI research.
- The robotics and autonomous vehicle programs are contributing directly to research displacing warehouse workers and truck drivers.

offmovement.orgIs not being able to find a job for nearly a year post-grad the new normal now?
I've seen so many posts/comments on here by people not being able to secure a job until 7-8 months post graduation. Has this always been the case, or is it a new thing, or is it just Reddit making things out to be worse than they really are? I know rural jobs are usually available, but are there any metro areas left that aren't oversaturated?
Edit: Not currently a PA but considering applying to PA school in the near future
I quit premed and my life feels like sunshine and rainbows
I was registered to take the MCAT this August and have been studying for a few weeks now. I kinda realized I'm not sure medicine is the only thing I'd be happy doing and therefore can't commit myself fully to it (despite three years of absolutely neurotic study habits, volunteering, etc, lol). Maybe I end up coming back to it in a year or two, but for now I'm keeping my options open and am not worried about it.
I've spent the past hour on my balcony drinking a really yummy smoothie in the sun, reading a book I've wanted to for a year but never had time to! And it kinda feels like this was the way life was meant to be lived.
If anyone here is facing as similar conflict: Remember this does not have to be a rat race, and not to push yourself to do things you're not 100% sure of yet! If you are, that's great, but sometimes taking a step back is the right thing to do even if it feels uncertain and scary because everyone else around you seems like they have it figured out. Honest chances are they don't either.
Edit: idk why some of y'all are so insecure about someone else's choice lmfaoo
How to use the Kaplan books?
This might seem like a dumb question but I can't really find an answer to this. Did you guys just read them front to back (more or less)? Do you take notes while reading? Make concept maps? Or did you do Anki flashcards and use that as a basis to review the sections you felt were needed?
