First pair and confused

Bought my first Red Wing´s today, a pair of used Irish Setters. Bought them online but from what I can judge they are legit, despite the fact that all info about the boots is stamped on the outside of the tongue. I think that was done on certain boots during a period of time. I googled “how to date” your Red Wings but that doesn´t help me - if I read the numbers like Google tells me they say that my boots are from July of 1986 and I don´t think they are nearly that old.

OOTD - thrifting and counting cattle

Tried to look pretty in pink when I went thrifting today...... :-) Bought some tweed fabric that I don´t know what to do with but I´ll think of something.

Pink cap - Hanna hats of Donegal. A one off, made specially for me.

Vest by me. Made it from a table cloth I thrifted.

Bag by me from a thrifted tweed jacket

The battered hat I´m wearing with the cattle is actually a Mulberry that I thrifted many, many years ago. It didn´t have a hat band then so I made one.

The cattle-jacket is a vintage Tiger of Sweden (fancy brand here) that I´ve redesigned slightly. The trousers are standard wadmal Swedish army from the 50´s.

Jump pic from a few days ago.

Turning tablecloths into vests

I sometimes thrift tablecloths because I want to use the fabric in a project (I often find colourful tablecloths for very little money). Recently I have turned four tablecloths into two vests.

I haven´t got a proper pattern so I use an old vest as a rough pattern. The first tablecloths used here are in cotton (for the pink vest) and the remaining two are linen.

The vests are far from perfect but they are “Good enough” for me!

The cap is a one off I bought from Hanna hats of Donegal, - love the pink colour!

Thrift store finds

Didn´t know I had a thing for capes until I found this. It´s in wool, don´t know the age (70´s maybe). I bought it and I´m loving it! I´m not wearing with formal clothes but over my workwear at home. Very comfy and I feel very good in it.

Shoes - Church´s from 1970 that are too big for me and a very small pair from a brand I am not familiar with. Couldn´t resist either.

Vintage women’s dresses – love the colours in these 60´s/70´s dresses and I have them hanging in my sewing room as decoration.

Vintage child garments - A very cute jacket and pair of shoes. Also hanging in my sewing room

Three outfits I´ve worn the last two days and all are vintage in some sense. The least fashionable #3, is actually the oldest, the trousers are from the 50´s and the jacket from the 90´s. I´ve done the leather alterations on the jacket. The hat is a Mulberry that I thrifted many years ago. I´ve put a new hatband on it.

The first jacket is interesting because the fabric consists of 55% Ramie (Boehmeria nivea), a material I have never worn before. It feels a bit like linen.

All bags, and photos, by me.

Thrifted these (box not original) and now I can´t find any info about them. They look like the Wrenlie, but the colour is different and these have velcro not buckles. They look brand new - they still have the inspection sticker on them.

Yesterday it was the forest but today I ventured into the city…. I took the train to Gothenburg and spent a few hours running errands and blessing myself for living in the countryside and not in the concrete jungle....

Outfit

Hat – Rockel, bought new but as deadstock

Jacket – Magee 1866, from the Swedish version of Ebay

Vest – by me

Trousers – Lanvin. Alterd by me but originally thrifted at the Red Cross charity shop in Falkenberg (found in the women’s section)

Boots – Baracuta. Red Cross charity shop Halmstad.

Tweed bag by me

In the paper bags – a later post….

Forgot to take a jumping pic so I pulled one from the archive. Hope it will do.

I love tweed and corduroy but they are usually heavy and warm fabrics not suitable for warm days. To prolong the season, I´ve altered some of my tweed/corduroy garments.

These cords (8 wale) were originally too short for me but when I turned them into a pair of shorts that didn´t matter. Likewise with the jacket - sleeves too short but after I ripped them off that wasn´t an issue….

I recently thrifted a pair of yellow Vans and today I wore them for the first time. Wasn´t sure how to style them but this is what I came up with…..  Tweed cap, jacket and trousers paired with a corduroy vest. Cap bought new, the other garments thrifted. Bag by me.

During today´s thrift I spotted two heavy cashmere jackets but the fabric was nicer than the garments.
