GTA VI won’t play well on the PS5/Series S. It’s like GTA V on the 360/PS3, just not a good time at all. So they wanted tech to improve to such a point that they could release it on a console good enough to run it decently.
Don’t really know if this is 10th dentist but it’s certainly controversial, in my experience. Also yes, it’s football and not soccer, and yes, the American men’s team as they exist currently are frauds.
The United States, by virtue of its large population and relative level of living, has a really great talent pool of potential world class athletes. A significant portion of the best male athletes get pulled into basketball, baseball and American football.
The American women’s soccer team is consistently one of, if not the best in the world. I think this is because soccer is a popular sport for women in America.
If soccer was as popular for men in America, I imagine the American men’s team would be almost as dominant. Of course there are other factors at play, but this is the main one in my mind.
As we begin to better understand the dangers of heavy contact sports like American football, I think more parents will shift their kids over to sports like soccer, when traditionally they never would have. And perhaps the American men’s soccer team will become a perennial and serious contender in competitions like the World Cup.
I might be biased since this is probably my favorite movie ever, but I feel like Eternal Sunshine was majorly snubbed, and I don't understand why.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was nominated for two Oscars: Best Original Screenplay and Best Actress for Kate Winslet. It won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
I think, reasonably, it could've been nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor (Jim Carrey), Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction (Production Design), Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects. If it was made today, I think it gets a nom for Best Casting too.
For me it wins Best Film Editing, Cinematography (both over The Aviator), and Best Sound Mixing (over Ray). I think it could reasonably win Score (over Finding Neverland), Sound Editing (over The Incredibles), and Art Direction (over The Aviator). Though these are unlikely wins I would vote for Best Picture (over Million Dollar Baby), and as such Best Director (over Million Dollar Baby).
What I don't understand is how it wasn't even nominated in any of these categories. Even if you disagree with my exact picks, I think most of us agree that at least a few of these are crazy. Not even being nominated in Film Editing is egregious.
Does anybody have any insight? It's not like people were unaware of it, as it won Screenplay. Was it just anti-Jim Carrey bias, or possibly bad timing (came out in March)? Maybe the relatively low box office numbers didn't drive enough people to care about it? Is it just too weird and confusing?
And if it was made today, would it be more successful at the awards? Pull off something similar to EEAAO?
To preface: I am largely pro-gooner.
This take also applies to games that aren’t strictly gooner games but appeal to that crowd. It also somewhat applies to all forms of porn and fanservice in general.
I’ll list my points in order of least to most cared about:
- Small developer gooner games are too short.
- Big developer gooner games appeal to the broadest number of people, and what appeals to me doesn’t overlap with the zeitgeist, so mainstream gooner games will never appeal to me.
- Gooner games are almost never good or even okay games. They sacrifice good gameplay for fanservice, which gathers popularity, yes, but I want to play a good game first.
- Gooner games with stories almost universally have terrible stories and as a dude that loves a good story, and loves writing my own stuff, I cannot stand for that.
- Gooner games appeal to a type of person that I really do not enjoy hanging around. Such is the nature of porn and fanservice, but like, I care about more than just that aspect of a gooner game. You go onto a gooner game forum and, wouldn’t you know, it’s just gooners. I want to talk about the story, not just share pictures of cropped breasts.
- Gooner games take you out of the story/gameplay for the sake of fanservice.
Gooner game fanservice is the equivalent of Big Bang Theory humor in my mind. In The Big Bang Theory TV show, they are telling jokes outwardly to an unseen audience, as opposed to funny things happening organically. People complain about this aspect of the show, and many other sitcoms, to no end.
In the same vein, making characters wear impractical clothing and do impractical things for the sake of fanservice is essentially a cringe fourth wall break that the characters aren’t aware of. It immediately rips me out of the game. Why the fuck would a character wear ill-fitting bikini armor or walk like there’s a stick up their ass? It doesn’t make any sense.
- Gooner game character designs and the way gooner game characters act is often too childlike for me.
- Too many (probably not most, but enough) gooner games are just sexual harassment simulators.
To be real, this is a problem with most porn and porn-adjacent media. I’ve read enough webcomics that are just ‘conventionally attractive female is sexually harassed and assaulted by conventionally attractive male until she realizes she really loved him all along’ and it’s bullshit. No, I don’t want to roleplay sexual harassment.
- Gooner games lead to an impractical view of people (especially women).
Everytime a game comes out starring a female character and they aren’t a perfect divine being, dudebros online start to mald and seethe. I can’t do it anymore. I can’t do the comparisons. Female characters should be allowed to be regular people, like male characters.

It makes me so uncomfortable. I couldn’t even tell you what my problem with it is (aside from my problems with generative AI in general) but I imagine it has something to do with just barely uneven weights and inconsistent kerning (space between symbols).
Remember like 2023 AI videos? Super uncanny AI slop stuff? That’s what reading AI text feels like to me, but on a more sinister level. Like the base level of dread present in a childhood nightmare before anything scary has actually happened.
I yearn for the days of Canva template posters and human-made shittiness, because at the very least it doesn’t make me feel like I want to crawl out of my skin.
