Why did she pass 🤔

I found an invasive Chinese mantis in my garden a few days ago. I did not want to kill her or harm her so I decided to keep her inside. I got her a pretty big enclosure... 10 gallon reptile tank with mesh top, 10$ on marketplace in my town. Added some topsoil, outdoor moss, sticks that I baked to disinfect. Fed her two flies I caught and then today I took her tank outside for some sunshine. It was about 80F. I fed her two invasive honeybees I caught that she gobbled down and was going to pick up my order of blue bottle flies tomorrow. I went to grab her tank and bring her inside and she was hanging by one arm, legs folded in. I went to spray her as I've been misting her and she's not moving.... I open the tank and she just fell, no movement. Could it have been the heat?? The tank didn't feel too warm and there was plenty of ventilation. I've been misting since getting her. Could it have been the honeybees? It's quite humid today. I'm on 3 acres, woods, meadows, my native gardens. We don't use any chemicals or sprays. Perhaps old age? I initially found her in the same area that I spotted a Chinese mantis last fall.. don't think it was her but who knows, we had a mild winter.

Taylor sues small creators on Etsy over trademark infringement, meanwhile, Olivia supports sellers with recent co-design collab

One threatens and/or sues, the other uplifts + supports artists, small businesses, and hobbyists. Imagine threatening a young teen hobbyist making and selling TS bracelets to make some extra cash, meanwhile billionaire Trump is using TS music with not a chirp from her legal dept.

From Billboard:
"One anonymous Etsy owner claimed to be “shocked” and “scared” to receive a cease and desist from Swift’s camp: “We originally made the item for fun, we love Taylor and we had friends that love Taylor. We never intended for it to be a profit-making item. The cost of the item covered shipping costs, and production costs with very little left over.”

Seeking reputable cat therapy for cat loving family member in hospice care

Hi, my family member recently was placed under hospice care at the nursing home she's been in for the past year. We don't know how long she has left. Her whole life she's always had a cat and adores cats. She's been quite depressed as well.

Her nursing home does provide monthly dog therapy with some organization/ shelter but no official cat therapy.

I am currently trying to find out if they would allow cat therapy for her specifically since she's under hospice care now and this would be such a positive and happy experience for her before she passes.

I'm looking for any reputable shelter or organization that provides cat therapy for hospitals/hospices/geriatric care that I could organize to visit my family member. Please feel free to comment or DM. I have cats myself and know that most don't travel well so an organization that has a friendly, lovely ambassador Kitty for these type of specific situations would be so so great. I would donate to an organization like this and/or pay for this service.

It would be so incredible for her. Her spouse passed away awhile ago, as did her brother. Her only child and adult son suddenly passed away a few years ago and the only time I've seen her smile is when I show her videos of my cats. She has almost no family left and I live on the east coast, visiting every couple months. I plan to visit twice this month so I can plan to be there as well. She speaks some English but mostly Polish.

I am so devastated and just want to make her last moments bring a smile to her and she feels loved. Shes been through a lot of horrible things in her life and has only given all she has to those around her and been a beacon for others.

Recently had car serviced and tech left a GoPro USB wire plugged in?

I am worried about yanking it out, no clue what it is connected to. Service center is closed to can't give em a call.

Happen to anyone before? I'm wondering if they were running a diagnostic and just forgot to unplug. I do not own a GoPro 😆

Middle of World Cup... Fox One gone 😑

Left Fubo after 5 years after NBC and some other channels weren't renewed. Direct TV stream had on their MAIN page ads reading "NBC gone from fubo? Come over to DirectTVStream we have NBC and more!"

Not even 2 months go by and now this 🤬

World Cup streaming on only Fox One and Telemundo. Now only down to Telemundo which isn't bad but Spanish is not one of the few languages I speak unfortunately

EDIT: this is happening in Utah due to local dispute. I'm back home on East Coast and can access Fox One again via Direct stream. Sucks for Utah!!

Full moon hike

Hi y'all! I'm helping set up a full moon walk with a local hiking group in New England. I'm a bit confused about visibility for July. According to timeanddate, the full moon on July 29 has a moonset of 5:30 am↑ (241°) and moonrise of 8:30 pm↑ (116°). The almanac states full moon peaks around 10:30am.

The moonrise is about the same time as sunset. I wanted to start the walk at 9pm, or maybe even 8:30pm 🤔 It is only 45min and is more focused on sounds of fauna at night but we are incorporating a leisurely walk without any additional lights other than using the light of the full moon (weather dependent).

If the weather is clear, will the moon be visible at 9pm higher in the sky or just above the horizon? The walk will take place at 700ft elevation in a pretty open meadow that goes briefly into a forested area by a stream. Very visible sky all around.

My expertise is in wildlife biology and anything astro related is a bit over my head so I appreciate any advice. I can also repeat these night moon walks Aug (moonset 6:35am, moonrise 7:45pm) Sept (moonset 6:30am, moonrise 6:30pm), October (7:50am moonset, moonrise 5:54pm)

Bobcat hunting & trapping (using cruel wire snare traps and jaw-toothed leg traps) w/ new quota of 400 individuals can lead to complete eradication of bobcats, please mail your comments if you oppose hunting/trapping our beloved bobcats!

Most people do not want them hunted or trapped. 71% of Hoosiers opposed trapping and hunting bobcats.

Lack of evidence. DNR has shown NO official population survey has been conducted. ZERO research done. This means there is no way to know what the actual bobcat population is. They admitted this in 2019.

Bobcats are integral to the health of Indiana’s ecosystems. Along with other predators like foxes and coyotes, they control populations of prey species. Without bobcats, other predators are at risk of overpopulating, further disrupting the food chain and ecosystem health.

A bobcat's main diet is rodents, rabbits, and hares. By keeping rodent populations in check, zoonotic diseases rodents cause like Rocky Mountain spotted fever, anaplasmosis, babesiosis, ehrlichiosis, tularemia, and Alpha-gal Syndrome, and Lyme disease, are reduced. The economic burden of diagnosed Lyme disease is close to $1 billion per year in the US, according to NIH. Diagnosed Lyme disease costs the state of Indiana $1,200 per patient. Fewer predators mean more rodents and more zoonotic diseases.

Wire neck snare traps and jaw-toothed leg traps are cruel and painful. Other untargeted species including people's pets have been caught in them. Bobcats and other animals can remain in these painful traps for days before hunters check them.

Bobcats were endangered in Indiana from 1969 until 2005. Conservation efforts led to their population increase. When the initial LSA Document #24-383 to trap bobcats was proposed, over 3,000 opposing comments were sent in and DNR still passed the killing quota of 250. THEIR OWN POPULATION MODELS show that a quota of 400 and over will lead to bobcat eradication...yet NOW they want to bump that quota up to 400. LOL WHAT.

Hoosiers who want to weigh in on the proposed expansion of bobcat hunting in Indiana can do so until May 19. Please make your voices heard! We cannot give up. The quota needs to be 0. There is just not enough evidence trapping/hunting of any bobcat! DNR has failed to provide any statistical or scientific analysis of bobcat populations.

Further research is needed to determine if there even is an unhealthy population size that requires control!!!!!

Emailed comments must be sent to lianderson@dnr.in.gov. Only comments sent to that address will be officially considered.
