Section 28 2.0: A complex web of anti-trans guidance that will make it vastly harder to overturn

camdennewjournal.co.ukSection 28 for trans children is being introduced in English schools this week
The new guidance for schools is being introduced this week which makes it life significantly harder for trans children.
A summary of some of the key points:
- There is no mention of "trans" children whatsoever - they are referred to as "gender-questioning" children
- Trans children are treated as a "safeguarding" issue
- Trans children are segregated out of using the facilities according to their gender
- Teachers have impunity to deadname or use the wrong pronouns
- There is a heavy presumption in favour of involving and telling parents if a child wants to transition, risking outing children to absuive parents
- There are heavy barriers against socially transitioning in school
- Trans people are to be treated as a 'debate'
- Schools are discouraged from any materials that show transitioning as a "simple" solution (not clear what this means, could be interpreted quite broadly) as well as "encouraging children to question their gender"
What this means for trans children is sadly quite clear. Increased risk of bullying, mental harm, physical health issues (such as starving/dehydrating to avoid using bathrooms), isolation/not going to school at all, abuse from unsupportive parents and so on. It's very depressing.

I'm a bit worried about those who have secret phones and are at risk of domestic abuse and all. I know the whole point is to uh...say these things, but was it really necessary? Like surely it's not an imminent thing that required the use of that.

Why do we have nobody commenting on the EHRC Code and the segregation of trans people coming into effect today?
Surely it would be worth some messaging from the party! I am getting very disappointed at Polanski and others coasting on making supportive statements now and then but failing on days like this where surely it would be worth at least *one* mention.
