We should have a better shared definition of "indie"
As the descriptor of "Indie" is a selling point for people I think we should define what is "indie."
It is short for "independent." So some sort of literal translation would mean it is independent of something. But of what and how do we measure that?
Usually it seems to be defined by size of team or money they have? If this is the case how do we define that and why? Does something like Clair Obscur count? They have about 35 permeant members with more temporary?
What about how the money is spent? For example a billionaire can be a solo developer and make the game and spend 100's of millions to promote it? This to me would not "feel" like an indie game to me.
And on feeling of an indie game there is a certain stlyle of game that FEELS like an indie game. Does this count for anything?
In short when talking about games I hear this term being used and usually there is not a standard understood from people. I think as some sort of formal space we can define it here and how we use it. Or the very least a conversation to see how people define it.
