Yanjin, Yunnan (aka. "narrowest town in the world)

More precisely Yanjinzhen. First two. The others are from the bus Zhaotong - Yanjin. Took the 11 oclock from Zhaotong South Passenger Terminal.

There is a daily train from Zhaotong whose ticket can only be bought at Zhaotong station, but you can buy to Shuifu and get off at Yanjin North. Today and tomorrow 's train have been cancelled both ways "due to weather", as per notice affixed solely at Yanjin North station (not in Zhaotong).

I flew into Zhaotong. No idea about trains from/to anywhere else.

If you're travelling Northbound like I am, Yibin is the closest bullet train station, so my hotel arranged for a minivan to collect me from the door, direct to Yibin.

Been photographed by police twice today, after 7 weeks in the country. WTF?

I decided to visit Yanjin, Yunnan. I didn't fancy the 10-hour bus from Kunming so I flew in to Zhaotong airport which is the closest airport.

The train I was going to catch was a little bit weird because it sold tickets Zhaotong - Shuifu which is after my final destination, so I bought the ticket and I was just going to get off at Yanjin. When I arrived at the train station this morning the train was canceled. The ticket counter employee didn't help much so I went to ask for help to a Police guy, very friendly btw. After 15 minutes talking to this police guy his colleague came and took a picture of us. After lots of Google translating I ve realized my best option would be catching the bus.

I came to the Zhaotong bus station and bought a ticket to Yanjin. (Also very friendly) police guy at the metal detector took a picture of me and my passport.

Is it because nobody visits this town that police all of a sudden have an interest in me?

is it the same situation as on

Jinkouhe Water highway

Any way to confirm whether this road sector is fully operational or not?

Has anyone here been there? Is it easy to find a taxi driver willing to take us for a ride?

(video found on YT)

Any Portuguese speaker(s) living here? 🇧🇷

I have a YT travel channel for the Brazilian public, will finish a 2 month China trip next week.

Although I do not do interviews in my channel, I would love to interview a Brazilian living in China or a resident who speaks Portuguese 🇨🇳🇵🇹🇦🇴

I wasn't too keen on 12 hs by train, but happy I decided to come here.

Yulong mountain was amazing yesterday, today Old Town was almost empty, and it's sooooooo well kept and beautiful, and tomorrow I have a tour to Shangri-la

Does it actually exist in Guangzhou? everywhere I go there is a problem: out of area, roads closed, out of working hours... what am I doing wrong?

I am sitting now at IFC and can literally get a car nowhere, doesn't matter what destination I choose

Are Chinese people fine with (electric) motorized vehicles on the footpath?

I've visited about a 100 countries and in the vast majority of them the footpath ("sidewalk", if you speak American) is exclusive for pedestrians.

Aren't there cases where ordinary citizens wanted to change this law?

It's my 3rd visit to the PRC, the other two were over 25 years ago, and I still remember walking on the footpaths, and the crowd of cyclists sharing the streets with cars. Back in the day, this was one of the things China was famous for: people on bikes. When did pedestrians in China lose the exclusive use of the country's footpaths?

And another small question: isn't the use of headlights in dark hours mandatory for scooters?

(I am not against electrical scooters, just curious why such vehicles aren't obliged to use the street)

After figuring out that there is no English version unless you want items to be shipped abroad, I decided to try and purchase things on Taobao, totally using translator.

I am traveling in China and I have a local number.

I managed to log in with my local number, receive an SMS and create a profile without any problems.

The nightmare started when I started to browse the website, for us to block my account for half an hour, then for a full hour, and obviously I was using my laptop to be able to translate with the browser, so I decided to try downloading the app on my phone and trying there which I initially didn't want to do because I was afraid my phone is not from China so it wouldn't accept

Then the annoying pop-ups went away for a few hours and I managed to browse. Today I started trying again and it turns out that my account is blocked. they want me to insert a picture of my passport there.

Like, do they think they are a bank, or is it just part of the the country's policy of full control of the population?

But most importantly, does anyone know if after/if I decide to provide them with a passport picture, will they be satisfied, or pester me with something else?

Among other things, this is one of your drink choices when travelling 1st class on bullet trains, the other is water.

I decided to try it, here is how I'd describe it: imagine taking a bottle of perfume, removing all the alcohol and drinking it. This is how it tastes.

From the food items, there is a sweet that is ok, if you don't mention that it feels like chewing styrofoam, something that looks like peas but it feels a bit like a salty biscuit, and something with a cow on the pack, it's some small cubes and it tastes sugary.

Do you agree with my descriptions? In case you travel 1st class on the trains
