Men who keep emphasizing the fact that I'm a woman
*Tagged politics because it's technically about gender politics*
Hey people, I'm a 21-year-old woman and I 100% enjoy being one.. But, what I've been noticing a lot lately is when I go into a store or in public, some men just loveeee to emphasize that I'm "just a small woman" and can't do anything. For example, they act like I can't do things such as pick up a jug of water or open a door/ hold a door open for someone.. And yeah, obviously they are being nice and just trying to help. I actually love when someone does it out of the good of their heart to help but I swear to god, sometimes some men do it to prove a point and to make me know that I'm less physically capable than them.
It's already bad enough that I'm biologically weaker than a man, does it really need to be emphasized all the time? I believe that everyone should help everyone. Men helping women, women helping men, men helping men and women helping women. I just hate how society makes women feel worse about being physically weaker than men. And then, if a woman says she can do it herself, she's gaslighted and told she can't and she's too weak... Like, what's the point of that? If she says she's got it, she's got it.
I'm from America and I feel like since we have such a sexist president, gender stereotypes are highlighted way more than usual lately and people who usually keep quiet about their sexist beliefs are now more open about it. I live in a small rural town and almost everyone here supports Trump so of course people here have traditional ideas on gender and believe that women are weak and can't do anything for themselves.
I feel like it's the same deal when it comes to the trans women in women's sports conversation. Conservatives believe that trans women are not "real women" (even though they are). They believe they are men playing in women's sports and they so badly want to "save women" from getting hurt by a "man". In reality, you know most if not all conservatives don't give a rats ass about women's sports. They say it all the fcking time. What they care about is policing who is and isn't a woman and keeping women in their place aka helpless and dependant on everyone else...
I just hope that one day, we realize that gender doesn't define whether or not someone is capable of doing things. It's obvious that a woman, on average, is going to be less physically stronger but that doesn't mean that every single woman is weak and can't do shit, especially when it's something so basic like opening a door. Everyone is different.
Thx for reading my rant <3
