The NVIDIA 3D Vision Restoration Project (on any high refresh rate monitor)

NVIDIA 3D Vision Restoration — Looking for Developers & Testers

I'm working on an open-source project to bring NVIDIA 3D Vision / 3D Vision 2 glasses back to life on modern PCs, without installing the discontinued NVIDIA 3D Vision driver or downgrading your current GPU drivers.

GitHub:
https://github.com/pancreations/nv3d-vision-restoration

The project currently drives the original NVIDIA USB IR emitter directly, handles the shutter synchronization ourselves, and outputs frame-sequential stereo on modern high-refresh displays.

We've already confirmed clean full-screen stereo through the glasses on a 4K 240 Hz OLED.

Current support/work includes:

  • Windows 10/11
  • 100 / 120 / 144 / 240 Hz displays
  • NVIDIA 3D Vision and 3D Vision 2 glasses
  • Original NVIDIA USB IR emitter
  • SDR + HDR
  • Phase/shutter timing calibration
  • Black-frame insertion
  • Eye swap / phase sweep controls
  • Stereo image pairs, window capture and Spout
  • Direct3D 11 game hooking
  • Direct3D 12 depth-buffer-based stereo
  • Dolphin / emulator integration
  • DIY RP2040 IR emitter in development

The big goal is to turn this into a modern replacement for the old 3D Vision ecosystem: one application that handles the glasses/emitter synchronization while games, emulators, geo-11, ReShade, native stereo titles, etc. can provide the actual left/right images.

Looking for developers

Especially anyone familiar with C++, DirectX 11/12, ReShade/add-on development, Windows display timing, USB/libusb, graphics hooking, stereo rendering, or RP2040/embedded development.

Also looking for testers

If you still own 3D Vision 1/2 glasses and an NVIDIA USB emitter, especially if you have a 120 Hz, 144 Hz, 240 Hz, OLED, LCD, Mini-LED, or unusual display configuration, I'd like to get this tested across as much hardware as possible.

The project is still early and there isn't a proper release build yet, so expect some technical setup and probably some broken shit.

If you're interested in helping develop it, testing hardware, testing games, or just know way too much about old 3D Vision hardware, reply here or check out the repo.

Please don't post the alpha gameplay of MCC VR on here for a bit

This is about Halo 3/ODST/REACH mods in VR

It's a WIP and people are very rude on here for no reason. I never claimed it to be fully playable, start to finish. Sorry I can't make it as fast as you want and exactly how you want it.
Those with only negative things to say have nothing else better to do with their lives than scroll on reddit bc everywhere else has had respectable reception considering the scope and speed in which this is being done.

I believe a big reason VR and gaming is dying in general is that most of you don't know how a computer works and it's limitations so your expectations for things have exited reality. Most of you in these headsets haven't seen reality in a while anyway.

Argue all you want about the ethics of ai but there is no need to just armchair hate on something by one dude tired of waiting on AAA dying studios that are all vibecoding already anyway. Check out Unreal 6, it's over fellas.

Thank you for everyone helping me catch the bugs, I'll have a fix for reach soon along with wider headset compatibility for those with double vision issues on ALVR.

If you want to see how it looks for yourself check it out on Youtube or Play it yourself

Ethics issue with "my" VR mod for MCC (WIP)

I'm a 3d animator/generalist. I really really hate generative ai but my friend and I have been dying to play halo games in VR so out of sheer boredom, desperation, and years of waiting for someone to make a VR mod, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and get Claude to build a VR mod for me.
I'm doing this because I really want to enjoy the game in vr but what are y'alls thoughts on me sharing this with the community like on GitHub or steam workshop? I don't want this mod to discredit the manually made art i've created using 3d animation software bc that's my passion and hobby. Also I don't want to be known as an Ai bro but the people deserve a Halo VR port and I've made considerable progress like-6dof, VRIK, and Two handed weapons. I plan on adding all the bells and whistles I like to have in a vr game like FSR and AFW after i fine tune these bugs to have an decently immersive version of Halo MCC.

Thoughts?

TLDR: I'm using claude to build VR mod for Halo MCC, but I feel like shit bc I'm a 3d artist and ai ruining everything including my own line of work.
