Is Youtube throttling my views because of a shot of jiggling anime boobs?

I'm extremely frustrated that I worked all week long to make a video short about the six most over-the-top American characters in anime, of course, wanting it to do well, but also to sort of celebrate the 250th anniversary of the USA. Naturally, my video gets nine fucking views in nearly 24 hours.

In one scene near the front, I used a character named Nikumi-senpai from Food Wars who has large breasts and an American flag bra. My theory is that their AI said, Oh, anime boobs, we need to ruin this guy's day by making sure he gets no views despite working so long on the video that he has arm pain from editing.

So do I need to absolutely censor every possible amount of sexy camera angles from any video lest I get my video views suppressed like this question mark? I know that I can't show actual fan service like I do all the time on X. But the whole video is built around this character with her American flag bra, and it's only on screen for half a second as the screen pans up

Thoughts?

My trip to JRR Tolkien's Gravesite

So my daughter and I were planning a trip to the UK from Japan and knew we wanted to visit the grave of JRR Tolkien. It was quite amazing to go and see all the coins and items left there by loving fans. I'm sure he would groan if he knew what his fans were doing.

What do you think of this kind of expression of love by fans, writing letters in Elvish text and what not?

Do people use "stop limit" orders to buy stocks at open?

So one strategy I use quite often is to review my watchlist and try to pick something that I feel is going to rocket up. For example, it seemed clear to me that GLW was re-taking the lead and I felt it wanted to rocket higher. It has a high RS compared to S&P 500 (300%+ vs VTI), has performed well over the past 2 weeks, and the day before (June 26th) was a day with lots of selling. So I thought there was a good chance it would go up, and maybe rocket higher a lot (and it did).

I made a "stop limit" order which is a limit order (buy at a certain price) but with an upper limit (don't buy if price jumps up above a certain point). This keeps me from buying a too high a price if it shoots up a lot in pre-market. For me, I set m limit price at around the highest point premarket attained when looking at a 5 minute chart. So I said, buy GLW if it gets anove 228, but not if it jumped to above 231. The market opened, the price fell a little (not triggering my buy order), then when it reached my buy level it executed, then shot up 15%.

When I asked about this strategy with a bunch of experienced traders I am in a Discord group with, they all poo-pooed the idea, presumably because it's quite common for a stock to fall at open, or shoot up a little then fall back down. They mostly wait for a re-test of the 21 MA before considering buying. But since I'm not just buying at open but setting a logical (?) point to buy, i.e. when it seems ilke this high-beta stock is definitely going to move up, it feels logical to me, but only for high-beta stocks that move a lot. I wouldn't do this strategy with a normal stock or ETF, only for one of those "damn it, I should have bought at open!" big moves.

Thoughts on this strategy?

Are these open and click numbers good?

I've operated a blog related to anime and JAV for nearly 30 years. Recently I've been paying more attention to my email numbers, how many go out, how many get opened, how many customers clicked. The number seem pretty steady, unless I get really lucky with a blog post idea. I've kind of switched to product focused posts and product reviews, but for years I would also bring people posts about what anime was buzzing this week, or what anime I personally liked, even if no one else did. But those posts got terrible numbers and I'm really done wasting my time with anything that won't help my business.

Anime Salaries in 2026 -- Updated Data Based on JAniCA Survey

https://preview.redd.it/30z8pgswcj9h1.jpg?width=2000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=08602c99fe625fecb6d1970d4edcf176c9321be0

So like 10 years ago a Japanese infographic was made which highlighted industry salaries and how low they were, largely casting shade on how the lion's share of money made in the industry was by the most famous seiyu, who could command higher pay, royalties for songs, fees for live events.

I was making a video to update the graphic with 2026 numbers to see how things had changed, based on an updated JAniCA Animation Production Workers' Survey. Salaries still remain ridiculously low, likely lower all of us anime fans, though they've risen 14% since the last time I updated the graphic.

Part of the why these numbers might seem especially shocking is the weak yen, which is around 160 currently. This makes JPY salary numbers seem 25% lower than they would if they yen were at 120 to $1USD, as it was in 2022. Purchasing power in yen isn't affected by exchange rates, unless a person in Japan wants to buy an iPhone, which is now super expensive compared with in the past.

What are your thoughts on why animators get paid terribly low wages, at leasat compard with super famous seiyu? And please check out the video I made on this topic, using our character Megumi.

(And yes, I know Ai Hoshino was not a seiyu, she's just there for illustrative purposes.)

What strange or special things do you do for your partner?

Let's start a discussion of unique things you do for your partner.

In my case, one thing I do is not flush the toilet. After 33 years of marriage, my Japanese wife and I decided that sleeping in separate rooms is better for both of us, so I moved into our son's room. Her room is right next to the toilet, so if I flushed the toilet, it would wake her up while she's sleeping. We created a secret pact not to comment if either one has left pee in the toilet bowl, because it means we did it to not wake the other person up. Not flushing the toilet is a kind of kindness in our case.

After she goes to bed, I go and find all her devices and plug them in because I know she never will. Then she'll have a dead phone and iPad the next day if I don't do that.

Her favorite food in the world is chicken skin. Recently, I found a new yakitori restaurant near us, and they sell fried chicken skin on a skewer, so I made sure to buy some for her. She was super happy.

Is it so terrible to be amused my mother Mother in Law's hallucinations?

So my mother-in-law has gotten a full-blown case of Lewy body dementia (though we're still waiting on the official diagnosis). Before, she would occasionally think she saw animals out around our house, and we'd go out with her and investigate, and she'd laugh at how dumb she was.

But after she got Shingles a couple months ago, the wheels have quite fallen off. We are all trying to be very supportive as best we can, and yet... sometimes it's amusing to hear the hallucinations she's concocted today, and we share them with the family. Is that a terrible thing?

In my mother-in-law's case:

  • She built up this ridiculous story that our son had joined the Unification Church and become a high-ranking member, and he played the trumpet inside the church for some reason.
  • The other day, a bunch of assassins were outside our house. There was a Chinese, an Italian, a German assassin, killing a bunch of people (and a horse, of course), right outside our door...certainly a rare site for rural Japan, where we live. When I pointed out that if such a thing had happened, the police would surely come to our house to investigate, she said that the police were in cahoots with the murderers.
  • Tonight she decided that someone was trying to kill our cat, stabbed it several times with a knife. She went to bed with 5,000 yen so she could bribe the murderers not to kill our cat.
  • The worst thing is when she starts to mistrust us. The other day she got mad at my wife, saying, "What, can't you see these people? Are you a liar too?" She likes me (her American son-in-law) because I always humor her and walk around the house shining a flashlight to make sure there are no murderers hiding in the corners of her room before she goes to bed.

Unfortunately, she likes nothing more than to talk at length about all the strange people passing through her consciousness. It's one thing for the family to deal with, but we run a small liquor store, and she'll talk the ears off of our customers, telling them what strange things she's seeing today.

I don't know if it's appropriate, but if others could share what kind of silly things their loved ones have cooked up due to this terrible disease, perhaps we could all get a bit of lightness out of our situation?

Wishlist of improvements for Pixelmator Pro

Hi, like veryone here I'm a passionate user of Pixelmator Pro. I bought the original several years ago but when Apple released their "upgraded" version (well, the icon got an upgrade) I decided to subscript.

But what we all fear is that Apple will stop adding new features to Pixelmator Pro, thinking that it's "done" and fine the way it is. I'd like to start a discussion of ways in which we still NEED new features and improvements.

My short list includes:

a) A way to "paste into selection" (creating a mask easily). This is child's play in Photoshop but there is no way to do it in Pixelmator Pro easily (I think).

https://preview.redd.it/lnsdur3fny7h1.jpg?width=1640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7d880d9adc1b07f3bd8fe0a670ab19d0757c15f

b) The font management is far from what it needs to be. When I opened a file for a youtube video I was working on, I didn't have the proper font installed, but Pixelmator Pro didn't warn me and just re-rendered everything to be really ugly.

Also, does ANYONE like the way the font size selector works? Come on! I have to manually move a tiny slider pixel by pixel to get the size I need, and I can't type the size I want?

c) I find it quite frustrating that Pixelmator Pro is ready to save the sidecar images to iCloud, but can't get preferences another already set-up version of the app. Hence I need to take screenshots and take notes about how I set up my tools, and so on. It would be nice if there was a backup of preferences, and when setting up a new copy it could ask you, "Shall I load the saved preference file?"

d) On the tools front, we're still waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for the ability to customize keys for the tools. Some of us have workflows we want to carry over to a new program and it's not nice of devs to say, NO, the shortcut for tihs tool is this, get used to it.

Source button stopped working on my Bose QuietComfort

So I love the Bose QuietComfort headphones, and own a pair for use at home and at work. I bought a third pair to replace the Sony headphones I do not like, but recently noticed something: perhaps due to a recent firmware update, the sounds and voice have been updated (at least I didn't notice that they had different sounds and voice from the other headphones I own). Most frustratingly, the "change source" button -- which is the main reason I own these headphones, because I have 7-8 audio sources I need to switch between, and using a phone app to do this is absolutely poor design -- either stopped working or never worked. I need to know what is going on and how I can fix this, because I am not logging into my Bose app to change the headphone source every time I move from my laptop to my Apple TV, or my phone to my gaming PC.

Pls help! Could the headphones I bought, Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones LE, not have the “change source” function?

Advice on how to manage the delusions?

My Japanese mother-in-law, unfortunately, developed LBD (though we're still waiting on the official diagnosis) at age 86. Mostly, it takes the form of her believing people are in the house all the time. It started out with animals; she would think there were cats or snakes hiding in the furniture. Then it moved on to little people who were walking across her bed or building things outside her window.

Most recently, she is positive there are men or women hiding in the corners of each room waiting to kill her when she goes to sleep.

It's really sad because she feels actual fear. While her husband just laughs, I always make a show of shining a flashlight around and making sure there's nobody hiding in the corners of the room. She seems to like that because I actually listen to her.

Is there any other advice anyone can offer to help people in this situation? Also, what are the drugs used to treat these kinds of delusions? She's on donepezil and I guess it helps. Also, is it normal for people in this situation to take medicine to help them sleep through the night? I want that for sure.

Help me with my anime shorts channel

So I'm an anime blogger who's been writing since 1998 or so. I've known I should start giving YouTube a try for a long time, but since my company was doing fine with me just blogging, I didn't take the action I should have. Now I've started a YouTube Channel called Anime with Megumi, in which Megumi (our company's character) talks about some aspect of anime, which are based on topics I've blogged about in the past.

I've made three videos so far, views have not been great, falling with each video. Some of this was because I took a 3 week vacation to Europe after posting the first video, which isn't smart.

The videos are all shorts, and feature a PNG-tyber style character who makes various gestures while she explains whatever the point of the video is. The voice is made with ElevenLabs, and I think it's pretty good-ish. When I mentioned this fact in another thread, the person replied that he hated all AI voices and that's likely why views were in the tank. If possible, I'd like to hear opinions from people here, especially if you make or view anime content. (Anime seems to not be that popula on YT outside of idiotic "react to this anime episode" channels.)

If the AI voice is no-go, my backup idea is to redo the videos with my voice but done using a voice changer to match the cute anime girl's voice. This might be better received by viewers. I would probably redo the videos with that voice and relaunch as a different channel (and close this one).

One question: when I search for 'anime with megumi' in YT, I get no results. Could that mean I have some kind of shadowban already? I did get another channel that we had like 9 years ago removed recently. That could be why the views are not growing.

The channel is [omitted because this breaks self-promotion rules?]. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can offer.

Experiences with elderly homes in Japan?

I'm an American who's been living in Japan with my Japanese family for 30+ years. Recently my mother in fell off a cliff mentally, getting full Lewy Body Dementia (not officially diagnosed yet but we're sure) after getting Shingles. She basically can't walk, has super bad blood pressure and diabetes, and my wife and I wil be having to administer her medicine (shots) before meals.

We both feel it's beyond our abilities and we'll be looking at what kinds of options there are for ホーム (elderly care homes) for her. Our city has a good elderly care system and I gather we need to get an officilal diagnosis from a doctor, then the care manager will give her a rating like 要介護4 which will enable those kinds of options? She can barely walk, can't take her medicine reliably and hallunicates constantly.

My question is, has anyone here got any experience with these kinds of facilities, and could you share them with us? I gather there are private options, but how much do they cost?

What Intel Mac apps can you not live without?

Fans talk about Apple ending Mac support for Intel in Mac OS 27, but I’m more nervous about the notifications I keep getting that “a future version of Mac OS will no longer support Intel apps running through Rosetta.

This is terrible news. While 98% of my programs are properly updated, I run a few “classic” apps I do not want to update.

The big one is FileMaker 16, which I use to run my business. Upgrading to the latest and greatest FileMaker would be a downgrade for me because I’d have to upgrade my server and all my employees. I willlikely buy no more new Macs once Rosetta support ends because of this limitation.

I also own 1Password and it works fine, and I’m not looking to change from this wonderful program and start paying a monthly fee.

Any Intel programs you will hate to lose? Does anyone think there’ll be a workaround to not having access to these programs?

Connection between dementia and shingles?

My Japanese mother in law had had mild dementia for a year or so, seeing animals outside our house that weren't there, like the time she insisted a dog had been tied up with its puppy and was going to die if we didn't go help it. Then she got Shingles (which I've learned is 帯状疱疹 taijou houshin in Japanese, something I'd rather have never had to learn). Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox, and it's bad to get later in life, I gather. After she got this disease, she lost the ability to walk (through some kind of spinal cord issue), and at the same time went into full dementia. Now she sees snakes everywhere, even in her hospital room, and thinks where son has joined a certain famous Japanese cult religion where he plays the trumpet. You could *almost* laugh.

My question is, has anyone else felt that Shingles might have caused their loved one's dementia, or made it much worse? Because there is a vaccine for Shingles (called Shingrix), which has me thinking over and over what would have happened if my mother in law had been had the vaccine.

(You might know the word 'bokeh' for the blurring effect in photography. It's a Japanese word that also describes the "blurring" of one's mind when they get demtia. It also descibes the "funny guy" in a comedy duo, basically Abbott i

My Pikmin are walking so far

Using my travel CPAP for the first time, noise issue?

I recently picked up the ResMed Air mini CPAP machine and have been using it while traveling in Europe for the first time. It certainly is nice to have a CPAP option for when I'm out and about, traveling around, although it seems like there's a lot of noise?

I didn't like the "travel" hose options, so I got the adapter and a full-face mask of the type I'm used to. It seems like there's a little bit more wind right in front of my face, even though I've got the clip-on dispersal unit, whatever you call it, in place as it should be. If anyone can suggest how to make my system work more like my home unit and be less noisy, that would be great.

I'm an American who lives in Japan. This January, I visited Penang Island in Malaysia and had fun using Pikmin Bloom to discover interesting areas near where I was located. I still got Pikmin who are walking back to my home in Japan from Malaysia. Meanwhile, in three days I'm off to England and Scotland for a three-week sightseeing tour. Those poor Pikmin are never going to get to me.

In a few days I'll be making a trip to the UK. I'll be doing some sightseeing up in Scotland, then meeting up with my daughter for a few days of sightseeing in London, then heading to Oxford. We're both Tolkien fans and will be visiting the grave of Professor Tolkien and probably doing the "Inklings" tour to see all the places Tolkien and his other writer friends grew up with while writing their great works.

Can anyone recommend must-see things in that part of the UK?

Hello everyone, I'm an American living in Japan. My mother-in-law has recently been in decline, and about a year ago she started seeing occasional people or animals around the house that weren't there.

I asked Claude about her symptoms, and the response was that she likely has Lewy body dementia, which we will of course be investigating with a proper medical professional to get an official diagnosis. One medicine the doctor gave her was Donepezil and that immediately seemed to help. My mother-in-law said all of the strange people hiding around our house had disappeared, but this morning she says several of them are back, small people wearing glasses hiding behind the sofa, a blanket covered with tiny little creatures, that kind of thing.

Can anyone chime in about this medicine and what we can do for my mother-in-law in general?
